Demographic factors and correlates of trust in types of people and information sources: findings from the SAM-KAP Alabama youth survey on HIV prevention.

BACKGROUND: Sexual and gender minority adolescents (SGM) experience higher rates of discrimination than heterosexual and cisgender peers, which may lead to adverse health behaviors, including condomless sex. Experienced discrimination and stigmatization may lead SGM adolescents to disproportionately seek information online around HIV risk and prevention. Understanding trusted sources of information among SGM adolescents is critical to addressing the HIV epidemic. METHODS: Two hundred six SGM adolescents, with male sex assigned at birth, aged 14-17 years, were recruited in-person from an LGBTQ

OBJECTIVE: Despite the high prevalence of alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the United States, limited research is focused on the associations among AUD, pain, and opioids/benzodiazepine use. In addition, little is known regarding individuals with a history of AUD and their potential risk for pain diagnoses, pain prescriptions, and subsequent misuse. Moreover, the potential risk of pain diagnoses, prescriptions, and subsequent misuse among individuals with a history of AUD is not well known. The objective was to develop a tailored dataset by linking data from 2 New York State (NYS) administrative

Quality and reliability of osteoporosis-related health information on short-video platforms: a multi-source cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporosis (OP) affects approximately 145.86 million people in China, imposing a substantial disease burden and broader societal costs. Effective management requires evidence-based patient education. Short-video platforms have become increasingly important channels for health communication, yet few studies have provided systematic comparisons of OP content across Chinese platforms using concurrent measures of overall quality, reliability, and transparency. METHODS: This cross-sectional study analyzed 300 OP-related short videos (100 each from TikTok, RedNote, and Bilibili). Two

Navigating sexual healthcare: a qualitative study on experiences, STI knowledge, and information sources among migrant men who have sex with men in the Netherlands.

BACKGROUND: Migrant men who have sex with men (mMSM) may face barriers in accessing sexual healthcare and information, contributing to health disparities, as they are at increased risk of exposure to sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. To better understand how healthcare systems can be made more equitable and responsive to mMSM's needs, this qualitative study explored (1) mMSM's experiences with sexual healthcare in their countries of origin and in the Netherlands, (2) STI and prevention knowledge, and (3) sources of sexual health information.

Trust in COVID-19 information sources and vaccination status: Exploring social inequalities and differences within the four United Kingdom nations using a representative survey.

OBJECTIVES: To explore how the use of, and trust in, different sources of advice and information on COVID-19 differed across the four UK nations and between different sociodemographic groups and their associations with COVID-19 vaccination status. METHODS: We used a UK-wide representative survey conducted in July 2021, which included data on uptake of COVID-19 vaccination, trust in information sources, use of sources and geographical and sociodemographic variables. We used multivariate logistic regression to identify factors associated with completed or planned COVID-19 vaccination. RESULTS:

Exploring Beliefs, Concerns, Prenatal Care Advice, and Sources of Information About Gestational Weight Gain Among Immigrant Central American Pregnant Women in the United States.

Gestational weight gain (GWG) is critical for maternal and neonatal health, but excessive GWG can lead to complications such as gestational diabetes, hypertension, and increased obesity risk later in life. Minoritized and immigrant women often face higher risks of excessive GWG. This cross-sectional study assessed Central American women's beliefs and concerns about GWG, the receipt of advice from healthcare providers, and sources of information for healthy weight management during pregnancy. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 93 pregnant women from El Salvador (31.2%), Guatemala (46.2

An insight into real-world practice: What information sources inform the prescribing for children with cancer in Scotland? A focus on emesis, tumour lysis syndrome (TLS), and Pneumocystis Pneumonia (PCP) prophylaxis.

Within clinical practice, information sources such as clinical guidelines ensure practitioners apply evidence-based information, supporting both effectiveness and safety of the prescribed medicines. Paediatric cancer - a leading cause of death in children - is a complex condition, thus is an area where clinical guidelines are important to give guidance on, e.g., recommended doses, drug dispensing, and toxicity monitoring measures. However, exploring clinical guidelines/information sources and their content regarding medicine-pertaining aspects is rarely done despite the fact they directly info

Validity, reliability, and readability of Artificial Intelligence chatbots as public sources of information on hearing loss: a comparative evaluation of ChatGPT, Bing, Gemini, and Perplexity.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the validity, reliability and readability of four AI chatbots for hearing-health information. DESIGN AND STUDY SAMPLE: Three audiologists created 100 questions covering adult hearing loss, paediatric hearing, hearing aids, tinnitus and cochlear implants (20 each). Questions were submitted twice to ChatGPT-3.5, Bing AI, Gemini and Perplexity. Answers were scored for factual accuracy and completeness on a five-point Global Quality Score. Validity was defined using low (score = 5) and high (score ≥ 4) thresholds. Internal consistency was estimated with Cronbach's α; readabil

[Environmental pollution from dioxins and soft tissue sarcomas in the population of Venice and Mestre: an example of the use of current electronic information sources].

OBJECTIVE: Estimating the potential carcinogenic risk associated with exposure to dioxins generated by industrial emissions and urban incinerators. DESIGN: We conducted a geographical investigation on the relationship between Soft Tissue Sarcomas (STS) and other tumours, and estimated levels of exposures to dioxins. Estimates ofthe population's exposure were derived from a historical analysis of emissions of dioxins and other pollutants, conducted by the Province of Venice in all the Venetian area in 1980-1990. Cancer cases were selected from two electronic pathology databases of Venice and M

Awareness of genetic testing for breast cancer risk among women with a family history of breast cancer: effect of women's information sources on their awareness.

The purpose of this study was to relate women's awareness of breast cancer risk genetic testing to the sources of information used by women for obtaining information about breast health. A sample of 354 women with a family history of breast or ovarian cancer was interviewed. Study variables included women's information sources for breast health, personal risk perceptions, family history of breast cancer, personal experience (i.e., having had a biopsy), awareness of genetic testing, and demographic variables. Regression analyses were conducted to assess the relationships among the variables. On

Trauma-informed palliative care: A systematic scoping review of evidence sources describing concepts relevant to an emerging field of practice.

BACKGROUND: Trauma-informed palliative care aims to improve end-of-life experiences by recognising and responding to the presence of psychological trauma. While many practitioners support the approach, they also acknowledge the need to build a stronger evidence base. AIM: To: (1) understand the methodology and defining features of existing research; (2) describe how the impact of psychological trauma at the end-of-life is understood; and (3) describe the nature of, and challenges to, palliative care approaches that recognise and respond to such trauma. DESIGN: A systematic scoping review was
