The paper presents results of ultrasonography of the hip joint of 56 newborns with pathology of the hip joint detected by a clinical and ultrasonic screening, and 56 children aged from 1 through 6 months with dysplasia of the hip joint and a congenital hip dislocation. The ultrasonic examination gives an exact evaluation of the development of the joint. Measures of treatment were chosen with special reference to the patient's age and severity of the pathology. The terms of treatment depended on the age of the child and severity of the disease.

A case of divergent dislocation between the second metacarpal and the three ulnar metacarpals is presented. Severe edema, fragments of the trapezoid, and interposed volar ligaments prevented successful closed reduction. Open reduction enabled restoration of the carpometacarpal complex with excellent recovery of hand function.

Multiple metacarpal dislocations combined with carpal fracture - dislocations are rare injuries. We report a new combination of these injuries where fracture-dislocation of the base of the 1st metacarpal bone occurred simultaneously with a comminuted fracture of the trapezium, dislocation of the trapezoid and metacarpal joints (2nd to 5th) and an avulsion fracture of the hamate. This specific carpal injury has not been previously described and our description will contribute to understanding the mechanism of these complex injuries. The injury pattern in the case featured here was multifaceted

PURPOSE: The surgical treatment of acute traumatic AC joint dislocations is still a subject of scientific debate in the literature. The arthroscopically assisted stabilization procedure with a suture button system has been successfully established and is widely used in daily practice. It is minimally invasive and allows the anatomical reconstruction of the torn coracoclavicular ligaments in one step with a permanent implant that does not have to be removed in a second operation. This clinical pilot study is the first to describe the new method of navigated suture button implantation with the f

A 27-year-old man sustained right ring and little finger proximal interphalangeal joint fracture dislocations. He subsequently underwent bilateral hemi-hamate autograft to treat these intra-articular injuries. The patient was followed periodically and demonstrated return of normal grip strength and radiographic union of the hemi-hamate reconstruction arthroplasties. This is the first reported case of a patient who underwent bilateral hamates as donor grafts for two proximal interphalangeal joint fracture dislocations. When patients present with multiple unrepairable proximal interphalangeal jo

BACKGROUND: The standard radiographic view for diagnosing acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) dislocations is the Zanca view of both shoulders to assess superior displacement of the distal clavicle by measuring the coracoclavicular distance (CCD) and comparing it with the uninjured shoulder; however, there is no consensus on a gold standard for diagnostic measures to classify acute ACJ injuries.
PURPOSE: To compare the CCD from an upright chest radiograph with a standard Zanca view of both shoulders in patients with an ACJ dislocation.
STUDY DESIGN: Cohort study (diagnosis); Level of evidence, 3.

BACKGROUND: Skeletal dysplasia is a heterogeneous group of disorders. Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasias comprise one subgroup. Deficiency of carbohydrate sulfotransferase 3 has been reported in a small number of patients with recessively inherited spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia with joint dislocation, short stature and scoliosis. We report here molecular and clinical findings of affected individuals in three consanguineous Pakistani families. Affected individuals in all three families had a uniform phenotype including severe short stature, multiple dislocated joints, progressive scoliosis and facial

BACKGROUND: Fracture-dislocations of the proximal interphalangeal joint (PIPJ) remain a challenging problem to treat. Although there are a number of papers describing the use of dynamic external fixators and force couples for treatment of unstable PIPJ fracture-dislocations acutely, the literature is scarce on delayed treatment of PIPJ fracture-dislocations, where malunion of the articular surface may theoretically compromise postoperative range of motion (ROM) at the PIPJ. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of dynamic distraction external fixation (DDEF) for the delay

The mechanics, anatomy, and pathomechanics of traumatic dorsal dislocation of the first metatarsophalangeal joint are discussed. There are two basic types of dislocations. In Type I, dislocation of the hallux with the sesamoids occurs without disrupting the sesamoid mass. Such cases are usually irreducible on closed reduction, the metatarsal head being incarcerated by the conjoined tendons with their intact sesamoids. In Type II, there is either associated disruption of the intersesamoid ligament (Type IIA) or a transverse fracture of one of the sesamoids (Type IIB). In Type II, the sesamoid d

INTRODUCTION: This study evaluates the results of the new surgical treatment of complete acromioclavicular (ac) dislocations using coracoclavicular (cc) fixation with a shape memory metal C-hook implant.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifteen patients were prospectively analyzed. They all had a Tossy III ac dislocation due to trauma. The ac ligament was reinserted using a surgical bone anchor, and the position of the joint was restored by fixing it with a C-hook. After 3 months the C-hook was removed. Functional status, symptom severity, X-rays and patient satisfaction were analyzed during clinical c

We reviewed 55 patients, median age 34 years, who had had acute complete acromioclavicular dislocation treated by transient acromioclavicular fixation with a Knowles pin and ligament repair by suturing or reconstruction of the superior acromioclavicular ligament with transfer of the coracoid end of the coracoacromial ligament onto the clavicle. At followup examination 50 patients showed at least a satisfactory result. Five cases, two of which had had subsequent resection of the distal end of the clavicle, were classified as poor, mainly because of pain, even though the functional result was go

BACKGROUND: Suspension stabilization is a commonly used surgical method for acute acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocation. However, a failure rate of around 26% caused various emerging surgical techniques and recommendations. We aimed to identify the significance of postulated factors relevant to the radiographic success of AC joint stabilization.
METHODS: The data of patients with acute AC joint dislocation treated with suspension stabilization in our institution from January 2012 to December 2022 were reviewed. Zanca views x-ray films of both AC joints were reviewed including the preoperat

Traumatic dislocation of the medial four carpometacarpal joints in a child is an unusual injury. Descriptions of this injury in the literature have been reviewed and a case is presented to illustrate the pertinent anatomy, biomechanical aspects, and details of management. Specifically, the importance of collateral circulation to the hand and an effective technique of pin fixation are described.

OBJECTIVE: Multiple reconstruction approaches for the anterior sternoclavicular joint have been described. No gold standard technique has been established. Owing to the well-established role of open reduction and internal fixation by means of plates and/or screws, rigid fixation is associated with the risk of implant failure, migration, and need for removal. This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of using button plates for the treatment of anterior sternoclavicular joint dislocation.
METHODS: From January 2018 to May 2021, seven patients with a median age of 47 (range 37-57) yea

BACKGROUND: Acute high-grade acromioclavicular (AC) joint dislocations are commonly treated surgically, with multiple fixation options available. Arthroscopic TightRope (AT) and mini-open TightRope (MOT) techniques are widely used, but comparative evidence remains limited. METHODS: In this retrospective comparative study, 96 patients with Rockwood type III–V AC joint dislocations were treated between 2018 and 2023 using either AT (n = 52) or MOT (n = 44). Two patients lost to follow-up were excluded. Primary outcomes included Constant–Murley and UCLA scores, while secondary outcomes were visua

BACKGROUND: Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia (SED) is characterized by skeletal dysplasia and multiple joint dislocations. SEDs encompass various types, such as SED congenita, SED tarda (SED-T), SED with congenital joint dislocations (SED-CJD), SED stanescu, and SED-T with progressive arthropathy.
METHODS AND RESULTS: In the present study, we clinically and genetically characterized a consanguineous Pakistani family with SED-CJD. The affected member showed large joint dislocation, spinal deformities, and previously unreported facial features. Exome sequencing followed by Sanger sequencing reveale

UNLABELLED: This study assessed the outcome of open reduction and internal fixation of proximal interphalangeal joint fracture-dislocations through a shotgun approach, while keeping hemi-hamate arthroplasty as a back-up plan. After using the shotgun approach, fixation was carried out when the anterior fragment was large enough to accept two 1.5 mm screws. Sixty-three fracture-dislocations were treated in 61 patients, of whom 30 underwent internal fixation. Twenty-one of these were assessed in the final study. At a mean follow-up of 29 months, the mean range of joint motion was 80° and 102° for

PURPOSE: Unstable dorsal fracture-dislocations of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint are complex injuries that are difficult to treat and usually require operative fixation. There are a number of surgical techniques for treating these injuries but none has emerged as superior. The purposes of this study were to describe a simple percutaneous technique to treat unstable dorsal fracture-dislocations of the PIP joint and to report short-term postoperative results.
METHODS: We treated 6 patients with unstable dorsal fracture-dislocations of the PIP joint with the technique of closed reducti
