Lipid pneumonia is exceedingly rare, with only a few reported cases to date. A 46-year-old woman with a history of left breast cancer underwent a left-modified radical mastectomy, adjuvant chemotherapy, and radiotherapy. Despite no known exposure to lipids, she presented with chronic non-productive cough and general malaise. Follow-up chest computed tomography revealed progressive ground-glass opacities in the left lower lung, initially suspected to be lobar bronchioloalveolar carcinoma. Surgical intervention was performed for both diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, confirming the lesion as

Primary neuroendocrine carcinomas of the breast are rare of all breast carcinomas. They may be welldifferentiated, poorly differentiated, or invasive breast cancers with neuroendocrine differentiation. They are staged and treated similarly to conventional breast cancer. Herein, we report a case of invasive ductal carcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation of the breast in a 73 years female with a history of breast lump initially in the lower inner quadrant of left breast and a month later, similar lump at the same site in right breast. Patient underwent Modified Radical Mastectomy bilateral

The authors describe a 55-year-old man with an axillary mass. Physical examination of the breast was normal, and the patient had not risk factors for cancer of the male breast. A workup for other possible cancers was normal. Excisional biopsy of the mass revealed metastatic adenocarcinoma. The histology favored a primary breast cancer. The patient had a right modified radical mastectomy. The pathologic examination showed infiltrating ductal adenocarcinoma of the breast. Adjuvant therapy included combination chemotherapy followed by tamoxifen. Physicians must be aware of the differential diagno

We present a case of a 64-year-old woman with stage 1 breast cancer. She underwent a modified radical mastectomy, followed by chemotherapy. She reported physical and psychosocial suffering due to her disease and treatment. Four weekly sessions of guided 30-min mindful breathing were delivered by the palliative care team to ease her suffering. The patient reported feelings of calmness, peace and relaxation after each session, with decrease in suffering, negative emotions and physical discomfort. This is the first report on the use of guided 30-min mindful breathing in palliating suffering of a

We report a unique case of a 67-year-old woman with neurofibromatosis type 1, who was also diagnosed with metaplastic spindle cell carcinoma of the left breast. She had many neurofibromatosis lesions on her body, as well as the mass in the left breast. After the breast mass was diagnosed as a malignant mesenchymal tumor by core needle biopsy, the patient underwent left modified radical mastectomy. Subsequently, the pathological analysis of the tumor showed it to be a metaplastic spindle cell carcinoma. The co-occurrence of neurofibromatosis type 1 and breast cancer, in particular metaplastic s

We report the case of a 63-year-old woman with occult breast cancer who presented with a hard metastatic nodule in the left axilla. Although histology identified a metastatic carcinoma in the lymph nodes, numerous tests failed to detect the primary tumor. Resected lymph node was positive for both estrogen and progesterone receptors, suggesting the breast as the site of the primary tumor. Left modified radical mastectomy was performed. Pathology revealed an invasive lobular carcinoma (2.5 x 2 mm in size) with extensive lymphatic involvement, which strongly expressed both vascular endothelial gr

Prospectively, ultrasonographic examination of the interpectoral space was performed in 185 patients with clinical and/or mammographic evidence/suspicion of breast carcinoma. Of these, 86 patients treated by modified radical mastectomy were included in the study. Interpectoral lymph node metastases were found histopathologically in 12 (14%) of patients. Ultrasonographic examination of the interpectoral space revealed enlarged Rotter's node in 4 (4.6%) of patients, and 33.3% of patients with involved interpectoral nodes. Therefore, one-third of interpectoral node involvement could be detected u

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor in females worldwide. Many differences exist in clinico-pathological characteristics of breast cancer patients between China and Western countries. This study aimed to analyze clinico-pathological characteristics of breast cancer from central China.
METHODS: Clinico- pathological information on breast cancer from three hospitals in central China was collected and analyzed.
RESULTS: From 1994 to 2012, 2,525 patients with a median age 50 years were included in this study. The 45-49-year age group and invasive ductal carcinoma not oth

The present study reports a case of metachronous bilateral breast cancer associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). A 67-year-old female, who had undergone a radical mastectomy of the left breast 34 years ago due to breast cancer, presented with a tumor of the right breast. The clinical stage of the original breast cancer was T2N0M0 stage IIA and adjuvant chemotherapy had not been not administered. With regard to the right-sided breast tumor, on physical examination, multiple neurofibromas and café-au-lait spots were found to be scattered over the skin. A 2-cm tumor was palpable. The preo

Stewart-Treves syndrome (STS) is an angiosarcoma that usually develop in an extremity with longstanding lymphedema. Most affected patients have a history of breast cancer treated with radical mastectomy. Here, we report a case of STS with breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) for a period of seven years. A 56-year-old woman presented with chronic lymphedema of the left arm. Nine years previously she had modified radical mastectomy for grade 2, invasive, ductal breast cancer. Upon physical examination, a tender, purplish lesion on the medial half of the affected arm was observed. The lesion s

We report an asynchronous bilateral malignant lymphoma of the breast, in a 56-year-old woman, presenting unusual clinical signs and histological features. The patient, who had a family history of breast cancer, had undergone a standard right radical mastectomy four years previously for a non-epithelial malignant tumor. At that time, the tumor was thought to be a stromal sarcoma, because some of the neoplastic cells were elongated or vacuolated. The patient recently became aware of a rapidly growing tumor of the left nipple without erosion or pain. This tumor underwent biopsy, and the histologi

BACKGROUND: Hypofractionated radiotherapy is an established alternative to conventional fractionation for breast cancer, but long-term evidence after mastectomy with regional nodal irradiation is scarce. We aimed to assess the long-term efficacy and adverse event profile of hypofractionated versus conventional fractionated postmastectomy radiotherapy in high-risk breast cancer.
METHODS: This randomised, non-inferiority, open-label, phase 3 trial was done at a national cancer centre in China. Eligible patients were women aged 18-75 years with high-risk breast cancer who had undergone modified

BACKGROUND: Male breast cancer is a rare entity, with an approximate rate of 1.1 / 100 000 in the US, with an average age of 67 years. In all cases a genetic study must be performed, in order to find mutations in known genes, and after the resolution of the disease, based on the results, a contralateral prophylactic mastectomy should be considered.
CLINICAL CASE: 53 -year-old male diagnosed with right breast cancer, infiltrating ductal adenocarcinoma type, clinical stage IIB, breast cancer on 2 immediate family history, mutations of the BRCA1 gene and positive hormone receptors and Her2/Neu.

PURPOSE: To assess whether muscle strength, power and endurance at the affected shoulder were reduced in women treated for breast cancer. Secondly, we assessed whether muscle performance was explained by management or other symptoms.
METHODS: Participants were 40 women (mean +/- SD: 56.7 +/- 11.6 yr) who had completed all treatments for breast cancer at least 6 m previously. We measured dynamic concentric strength at one repetition maximum (1RM), endurance at 90% 1RM, and power through a range of 40-100% 1RM for shoulder protractors, extensors and retractors. Strength and endurance, but not p

In order to clarify the factors that mainly influence arm morbidity following treatment of breast cancer with the full axillary dissection protocol, we evaluated, in a model of multiple regression analysis, parameters such as the type of breast surgery, adjuvant radiotherapy, time of irradiation, age, number of dissected nodes and axillary nodal status. A total of 104 women were studied. Late arm edema was observed in 17% of the patients and was more frequent when (1) irradiation was given immediately after the operation than if it was given 6 months later (p = 0.009) and (2) the number of rem

Primary breast sarcomas are uncommon and primary mammary malignant peripheral nerve sheet tumors (MPNST) are exceptionally rare. MPNSTs are malignant variants of peripheral nerve sheath tumors. These neoplasms are often associated with neurofibromatosis type I (NF-I) but can also occur sporadically. They tend to occur in the deeper soft tissues, trunk, and extremities. A 60-year-old Asian female was referred to our surgical clinic for evaluation of a left breast mass and an abnormal mammogram. The patient noticed the mass in the left breast three months earlier and was referred for mammography

Introduction: Breast cancer is well known as the stereotypical women's cancer, and prostate cancer represents the well-known stereotypical male counterpart. While prostate cancer carries the potential to metastasize to the breast, the synchronous or metachronous co-occurrence of primary breast and primary prostate cancers is quite unusual. Prostate cancer in men of African descent may have its own behaviour with regards to its relationship with male breast cancer. Case presentation: Case 1: A 64 year old male presented to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital (CHBAH) with a 2 years history of a pain
