OBJECTIVE: To assess the outcome of intensive care treatment in invasive aspergillosis.
DESIGN: Retrospective study.
SETTING: University Hospital, Medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
PATIENTS: Twenty-five patients with invasive aspergillosis who were admitted to the medical ICU in a 5 1/2 year period. Twenty-two had received high-dose chemotherapy for (mainly hematologic) malignancies, one had been treated with cyclosporine and prednisolone for systemic lupus erythematosus, one with high-dose methylprednisolone for polyarteritis nodosa and one had an ARDS after near-drowning.

BACKGROUND: Plague, a Yersinia pestis infection, is a fatal disease with tremendous transmission capacity. However, the mechanism of how the pathogen stays in a reservoir, circulates and then re-emerges is an enigma.

OBJECTIVE: Hemifacial spasm occurs when a blood vessel compresses against an area near the root exit zone of the facial nerve. Developments in diagnostic neuroimaging have allowed three-dimensional (3D) observation of artery and nerve locations, an effective aid for treatment selection. However, an accurate interpretation of the 3D data remains challenging because imaging representations of complex small vessels are drowned out by noise. High-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV) was used in 29 children with severe ARDS complicated by pulmonary barotrauma (PBT). The study investigates the effect of zolpidem (CAS 82626-48-0) on brain injuries and cerebellar diaschisis. Four patients with varied brain injuries, three of them with cerebellar diaschisis, were imaged by 99mTc HMPAO Brain SPECT before and after application of zolpidem. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to present a case of persistent mycetoma caused by Scedosporium boydii and undertake a systematic literature overview to elucidate the clinical characteristics and antifungal treatment exhibited by such patients.
METHODS: We report the case of a 24-year-old female who sustained a Scedosporium boydii infection in her right foot over a decade ago following a nail puncture. Concurrently, a comprehensive literature overview was conducted on PubMed, focusing on documented cases of Scedosporium boydii infections with the intent of extracting relevant clinical data.
