Predictors of Nutritional Status, Depression, Internet Addiction, Facebook Addiction, and Tobacco Smoking Among Women With Eating Disorders in Spain.

Eating disorders (EDs) are a complex group of psychiatric conditions that involve dysfunctional eating patterns, nutritional alterations, and other comorbid psychopathologies. Some women with EDs may develop problematic internet use while they attempt to get information on dieting/weight control or get online support from people with similar problems. They may also drift toward tobacco smoking as a method to regulate their weight or to cope with their weight-related dysphoria. The occurrence of these conditions in EDs may prolong disease course and impede recovery. This study used structural e

The Impact of Nutritional Management on Fat-Soluble Nutrient Status in Patients with Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorders: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Background: Fatty acid oxidation disorders (FAOD) are rare inborn errors of metabolism that impair mitochondrial β-oxidation and energy production. Management includes fasting avoidance for all FAOD types. Patients with long-chain FAOD are advised to restrict long-chain triglycerides (LCTs) to 10% of total energy intake and supplement medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). The impact of such dietary modification on fat-soluble vitamin status has not yet been studied. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, serum concentrations of vitamins A, 25(OH)D, E, and β-carotene were measured in 36 FAOD pati

[Assessment of the role of nutritional and genetic determinants in the formation of the risk of diseases associated with folate cycle disorders in the population of the Omsk region].

A number of essential nutrients are involved in the folate cycle, and its effectiveness depends on the sufficient intake of them. In addition, polymorphic variants of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR), methionine synthase reductase (MTRR) and methionine synthase (MTR) genes affect a wide range of biochemical reactions of the folate cycle and should also be considered as a risk factor for the development of a number of diseases. The purpose of this research was to study the prevalence of these risk factors. Material and methods. The prevalence of polymorphisms of the folate cycle

[A case of a patient with bile secretion disorder for whom an egg yolk lecithin-containing liquid diet was used for enteral nutrition].

For elderly people who are difficult to operate, percutaneous transhepatic gallbladder drainage (PTGBD) is conducted instead. In PTGBD, the bile is drained externally and impaired absorption of fat is a concern. Egg yolk lecithin, which is a fat emulsifier, is not easily broken in emulsion even under a low-pH condition, and the emulsified state is stable. Even in bile duct ligation rats, the emulsifier in egg yolk lecithin emulsion is reported to be superior to lipid absorption using other emulsifiers. Emulsification with egg yolk lecithin may possibly contribute to improvement of nutrition du

How feasible is nutrition intervention research in eating disorders? Lessons learnt from a pilot parallel randomised controlled trial of tyrosine supplementation in adolescents with anorexia nervosa.

OBJECTIVE: Eating disorders are complex illnesses with high morbidity and mortality. Yet, there is promising evidence to support the effects of nutrition on the brain and behaviour. One proposed example is the use of tyrosine as an adjunct treatment in anorexia nervosa (AN). However, recruitment and retention in eating disorder clinical trials has posed difficulties for researchers. The aim of this study was to pilot test a parallel randomised controlled trial (RCT) of tyrosine supplementation to explore the feasibility of recruitment and retention, intervention adherence and data collection m
