PURPOSE: To report a modified vitrectomy technique for proliferative diabetic retinopathy.
DESIGN: Interventional case series.
METHODS: In the modified vitrectomy technique for proliferative diabetic retinopathy, core vitrectomy is performed, followed by separation of the glial ring from the optic disk using a hook or forceps. The posterior hyaloid membrane, including proliferative tissues, is lifted and peeled from the posterior to the peripheral retina without creating a window in the posterior hyaloid membrane. At any strong vitreoretinal adhesion site, the posterior hyaloid is partially

We report a case of isolated unilateral optic tract hypoplasia, described only twice previously. Bilateral optic disk hypoplasia was seen ophthalmoscopically and visual field studies showed an incongruous right homonymous hemianopia. Magnetic resonance imaging showed bilateral hypoplasia of both optic nerves and the left optic tract. Spectral domain optical coherence tomography mapping correlated well with the visual field studies.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) and optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) have the potential application in evaluating pathological structural change of the optic nerve. We aimed to evaluate the value of the OCT and OCTA parameters of the optic disk and macular in differentiating early chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma (CPACG) and early pituitary adenoma (PA) in case of mild visual field defects (the mean defect (MD) > 6 dB). The results showed that regarding OCTA parameters, CPACG patients had lower retinal blood flow density of most layers of the optic disk and macular than

Morning glory disk anomaly is generally a unilateral, sporadic congenital abnormality of the optic disk. These eyes are at risk of developing retinal detachment requiring surgical repair. The etiology of retinal detachment is incompletely understood in this condition and some reports have attributed it to a retinal break. We report an unusual case of morning glory disk anomaly with total nonrhegmatogenous exudative retinal detachment that displayed remarkable subsequent spontaneous resolution.

We describe the PAR IS 2000, a new system of digital image analysis of the optic disc. The system uses a simultaneous stereoscopic camera and a video camera to acquire images directly from the optic disc and from optic disc photographs, respectively. The image data are stored on an optical laser disk capable of handling large amounts of data (4000 monochrome images/disk). These images can be analyzed using a modified digital interactive mapping program to generate stereometric parameters, contour maps, section profiles, pallor maps, depth maps, and three-dimensional topographic plots of the re

BACKGROUND: The optic disc in a child with optic disc drusen (ODD) frequently mimics the optic disc in a child with papilledema, which may lead to unnecessary invasive investigations. Recent advances in imaging have transformed our understanding of pediatric ODD.
METHODS: We reviewed the literature from 2018 to 2025, focusing on pediatric cohorts and novel imaging modalities, including optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCTA), and artificial intelligence (AI).
RESULTS: Enhanced depth imaging OCT (EDI-OCT) has become the diagnostic reference standard with high sensitivity

BACKGROUND: Neuro-ophthalmic findings are uncommon in the setting of Sjögren syndrome. We report the case of a patient with bilateral, sequential optic neuropathy as the initial manifestation of Sjögren syndrome.
HISTORY AND SIGNS: A 38-year-old male presented with sudden painless visual loss in his left eye in May 2005. Fundus examination revealed a left swollen optic disk. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed a left optic nerve lesion. Elevated titres of autoantibodies (ANA, anti-SSA, anti-SSB) were found, suggestive of Sjögren syndrome. In January 2006, he presented with painful sudde

Disk swelling in patients with hypoparathyroidism has often been attributed to papilledema but rarely to optic neuritis. Although we are reporting a patient with hypoparathyroidism in whom optic neuritis developed, a causal relationship is not yet clear. The patient may have had ischemic optic neuropathy concomitant with hypoparathyroidism or caused by tetanic vasospasm or calcification of optic nerve nutrient vessels.

Peripapillary hyperreflective ovoid mass-like structures (PHOMS) are a laterally bulging herniation of distended axons into the peripapillary region above the level of Bruch's membrane opening. Increased use of enhanced depth imaging-optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT) in our evaluation of the optic nerve head (ONH) and greater recognition of the vast range of optic nerve pathologies with which PHOMS is associated provides convincing evidence that PHOMS is not just buried optic disc drusen (ODD) as previously described. The frequent coexistence of PHOMS with ODD, papilloedema, anterior isch

BACKGROUND: With the development and widespread adoption of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (OCT), peripapillary hyper-reflective ovoid mass-like structures (PHOMS) have become a frequent OCT finding in neuro-ophthalmic practice. Although originally assumed to represent a form of buried optic disc drusen (ODD), PHOMS differ from ODD in many important ways. The histopathological underpinnings of PHOMS are now becoming more clearly understood.
EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: Review of literature.
RESULTS: PHOMS can be broadly classified as disk edema-associated PHOMS, ODD-associated PHOMS,
