A triaxial model for autistic spectrum disorder (ASD) is presented, incorporating age, degree of intelligence, and severity of autistic features. As the name implies, ASD can vary in degree of expression from minimal to profound. Furthermore, the symptoms of ASD change in predictable ways with the passage of time. For example, echolalia during early childhood may be replaced by verbal literalism and difficulty with verbal humor during later childhood or adolescence. This study documents experiences of parents who chose to disclose, and intended to disclose to their children, information about the donor involvement, and children's responses when they received this information. Of the 181 parents who responded, 30% (n = 54) gave their children information about their conception (34 families). The aim of the investigation was to evaluate the prevalence, severity, and parents' management of children's pain following short-stay and day surgery. The subjects were 189 parents of children (2-12 years of age) who had undergone short-stay or day surgery. Parents completed a 3-day diary of their child's pain and the methods used to alleviate it. Additional unpublished data are presented from a study by Cotton and Evans in 1990 on the use of Irlen (tinted) lenses as an intervention for 22 children with a reading disability. A total of 1343 mentally retarded patients referred for cytogenetic evaluation were studied. Of these Down syndrome was confirmed in 365 (21.17%). There were 316 patients of trisomy 21 (86.58%); 21 of mosaicism (5.75%) and 28 of translocation (7.67%). Trisomy 21 patients with chromosomal variants were observed in 17 (4.65%). A 1.37:1 male:female ratio was seen. Karyotyping was also done on 182 parents (of patients of mosaic Down, translocation Down and trisomy 21 with chromosomal variants and in parents with suspected low mosaicism). The family histories of 140 children and adolescents with hyperactive child syndrome were compared with the family histories of 91 psychiatrically ill, age- and sex-matched patients who had a primary diagnosis other than hyperactive child syndrome. This paper deals with a six-year experience of group therapy for parents of leukemic children. The group, which includes the hospital staff, strengthens the role of parents, doctors, and nurses. Group therapy is seen as a preventive measure in the sense of working with and partially resolving family stresses. Mourning reactions are dealt with but within limits. The group is built into the total treatment program and, while funding lasts, is not considered to be ancillary or temporary.

In the Laboratory for Human Cytogenetics of the University Hospital Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics in Beograd a cytogenetic analysis of 30 families with spontaneous abortion was performed. In two families structural chromosome aberrations--Y chromosome deletion and 13/14 translocation--were detected.
