We report a resected case with a pathological complete response(pCR)after neoadjuvant chemotherapy for borderline resectable pancreatic cancer(BRPC). A 67-year-old woman who had been treated for type 2 diabetes mellitus in our hospital presented with an exacerbation of diabetes. An abdominal CT scan confirmed a hypovascular mass in the pancreas body consistent with BRPC. After 3 courses of chemotherapy with gemcitabine plus nab-paclitaxel(GnP), her elevated DUPAN-2 level normalized. A follow up CT scan revealed that the tumor had decreased in size, and no distant metastasis was detected. Dista

A 61-year-old man was referred to our hospital because of epigastric pain. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a type 2 tumor at the gastric antrum, which was diagnosed as gastric adenocarcinoma (tub1) by pathological examination and was HER2 positive 3+ by the IHC method. Abdominal computed tomography revealed multiple metastases to regional lymph nodes (LNs), including bulky nodes at No. 3, 6, and 11p stations. In particular, No. 6 LN was 43 mm in diameter and had invaded to the pancreas. The clinical stage was Ⅲc (T4aN3M0) and neoadjuvant chemotherapy was conducted using S-1/CDDP/tras

A 65-year-old man complaining of abdominal pain was admitted to our hospital. A diagnosis of colon ileus due to sigmoidal colon cancer was made. A stoma was created at the transverse colon, and elective surgery was scheduled. During the operation, the tumor was found to have invaded the bladder and the pelvic wall, making curative resection impossible. Chemotherapy consisting of bevacizumab/oxaliplatin, Leucovorin, and 5-fluorouracil(FOLFOX4, intravenous drip infusion every 2 weeks)was started. After 12 courses of treatment, remarkable shrinkage of the tumor was noted, which led us to perform

The prognosis for patients who achieve a pathologic complete response in bladder cancer is excellent, but the association between their prognosis and the tumor microenvironment is unclear. We investigated the tumor immune microenvironment of those with pathological complete response after platinum-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy for cT2-4aN0M0 bladder cancer using multiplex fluorescence immunohistochemistry. Our retrospective study included 12 patients with pathological complete response who underwent radical cystectomy following neoadjuvant chemotherapy for cT2-4aN0M0 muscle-invasive bladder c

BACKGROUND: Preoperative treatment is performed for locally advanced colon cancer with extensive tumor proximity or suspected invasion of skeletal muscles, major organs, and blood vessels. Oxaliplatin-based regimens are often used in preoperative chemotherapy. However, microsatellite instability (MSI)-high colorectal cancer is often resistant to cytotoxic anticancer agents. Herein, we describe a case of treatment of anticancer drug-resistant MSI-high locally advanced colon cancer and review cases of complete response to immune checkpoint inhibitor therapy for colorectal cancer.

BACKGROUND: The molecular classification system categorizes invasive breast carcinomas according to their key driving biomarkers. In the current study, the authors evaluated whether response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy was correlated with the molecular classification groups.
METHODS: Using immunohistochemistry, the molecular classification group (luminal-A, luminal-B, HER-2-variant, HER-2-classic, and basal phenotype) was retrospectively determined in 68 breast cancer patients who received neoadjuvant treatment.
RESULTS: A total of 28 carcinoma patients (41.2%) achieved a compete pathologic

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is often diagnosed at a late stage and frequently recurs despite curative intervention, leading to poor survival outcomes. Frontline systemic therapies include combination immunotherapy regimens and tyrosine kinase inhibitors. We report a case of a 38-year-old woman with chronic hepatitis B and C coinfection-associated non-cirrhotic HCC, which recurred in the peritoneum after initial resection of her primary tumor. Disease progression occurred on both atezolizumab/bevacizumab and lenvatinib, and she was subsequently treated with gemcitabine and oxaliplatin (GEMOX

INTRODUCTION: Pembrolizumab-based neoadjuvant chemoimmunotherapy following the KEYNOTE-522 regimen (NCT03036488) is a standard treatment approach for stage II and III triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). Real-world evidence on the impact of germline BRCA status on pathologic complete response (pCR) and survival outcomes remains limited.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective single-center cohort study of patients with stage II-III TNBC treated with a KEYNOTE-522 regimen between January 2021 and December 2023. Only patients with documented germline BRCA status were included. The primary end po

BACKGROUND: Accurately predicting pathologic complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in breast cancer remains challenging when relying on single biomarkers. We aimed to establish a composite serum model integrating CA153, tumor-supplied group of factors (TSGF), and CYFRA 21-1 to enhance predictive performance.
METHODS: This retrospective study included 258 breast cancer patients who received NAC at The First Hospital of Putian between January 2021 and December 2022. Eligible patients had histologically confirmed invasive breast cancer and complete clinical, pathological, and

The goal of this study was to evaluate various clinicopathologic and imaging characteristics as independent predictors of axillary pathologic complete response (pCR) to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and to determine the added value of a model that integrates imaging characteristics of ultrasound (US) restaging with known clinicopathologic characteristics. A total of 227 clinically node-positive breast cancer patients underwent axillary US after NAC (termed US restaging) before surgery. We constructed a clinicopathologic model with independent predictors of clinicopathologic characteristics in

BackgroundNeoadjuvant therapy is the standard treatment for locally advanced rectal cancer; however, treatment response remains heterogeneous, and research has increasingly shifted from isolated anatomical predictors toward biologically integrated response assessment. This study evaluated whether anatomical tumor location was independently associated with pathological response to neoadjuvant therapy.Materials and MethodsThis multicenter retrospective study included 179 patients with stages II-III rectal adenocarcinoma undergoing long-course neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy followed by total mesor

BACKGROUND: HER2-positive breast cancer represents approximately 15-20% of all breast cancers and is characterized by aggressive biological behavior. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has become standard treatment, with pathological complete response (pCR) serving as a crucial prognostic indicator. This study aimed to develop and validate a nomogram integrating dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) features and clinicopathological parameters for predicting pCR in HER2-positive breast cancer patients receiving NAC.
METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 183 HER2-positive br

BACKGROUND: A pathological complete response (pCR) following neoadjuvant chemoradiation (CRT) is associated with a favorable prognosis in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer. Patients with metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC) often receive systemic therapy, and some patients undergo primary tumor resection after preoperative therapy. However, whether oncological outcomes remain favorable in patients with mCRC and pCR in the primary tumor site (ypT0N0M1) following preoperative therapy is unknown.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Patients with mCRC who underwent preoperative therapy followed by pr

INTRODUCTION: Neoadjuvant immunochemotherapy (nICT) has been recommended as the standard regimen for locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) without actionable genomic alterations. However, the efficacy of nICT for patients harboring human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) mutation remains uncertain. Here, we report two cases with locally advanced HER2-mutant NSCLC who received nICT followed by radical surgery.
CASE PRESENTATION: This study reports 2 cases of patients with resectable HER2-mutant NSCLC in stage III. Both patients were 67-year-old males who received nICT fol
