The symphyseal single-tooth implant for anchorage of a mandibular complete denture in geriatric patients: a clinical report.

Little information exists to define the minimum number of implants required for sufficient anchorage of mandibular overdentures. To date, 2 implants placed in the interforaminal region have been considered the minimum. The aim of this study was to examine whether a single symphyseal implant would suffice for adequate anchorage of a mandibular complete denture in elderly patients (octogenarians), and whether this surgically, prosthetically, and financially simple concept would also satisfy patients needing replacement of the mandibular dentition. Nine patients with a mean age of 82.2 years unde

Periodontal considerations in restorative and implant therapy.

The successful integration of periodontal and restorative dentistry for both natural teeth and implants requires knowledge and application of both mechanical and biological principles. In areas of aesthetic concern, an adequate band of attached gingiva can increase patient comfort, reduce the probability of gingival recession following tooth preparation and simplify restorative procedures. While some restorative margins need to be placed at or below the margin of the free gingiva, this should be considered to be a compromise, and margins should not be placed more than 0.5 mm into a healthy gin

Treatment planning and dental rehabilitation of a periodontally compromised partially edentulous patient: a case report - Part I.

When planning a prosthetic rehabilitation of a periodontally compromised case, the clinician is often confronted with difficulties and dilemmas related to selecting the appropriate treatment modality that would provide a long-term longevity in terms of function and esthetics. In such cases, a correct diagnosis and prognosis of the intraoral situation supported by evidence-based dentistry is the basis for the establishment of a proper treatment strategy. In this two-part treatment planning series, a systematic approach of patient examination and prognosis of each tooth is presented. Furthermore

[Results of the use of whole ceramic prosthetic constructions from zirconium oxide for recovery of the teeth with deep subgingival defects].

30 patients (13 men and 17 women) with deep subgingival defects were selected for treatment, their mean age was equal to 39.7+/-3.2 years; for their teeth recovery 38 stump inlays from zirconium oxide were made. The patients were distributed in 3 groups depending upon the material used for inlay fixation; for 2 years in the dynamic regime (after 6, 12 and 24 months) clinical evaluations were done of the quality of tooth recovery. Medium-term results of the quality of tooth recovery clinical evaluations by inlays from zirconium oxide have shown that this method is perspective for teeth recovery

[Reconstruction of a periodontally compromised dentition].

The presented case report describes a systematic treatment concept, the treatment sequence and the maintenance care of a sixty-seven-year old female patient suffering from generalized chronic periodontitis with advanced attachment loss. Due to a pretherapeutic risk assessment, several teeth were classified as "irrational to treat" or "doubtful". Therefore, a comprehensive reconstructive rehabilitation after active periodontal therapy was necessary. The restoration of a periodontally compromised dentition represents various difficulties. The patient wished to have fixed reconstructions. Dependi
