PURPOSE: Bartonella henselae is the causal agent of cat scratch disease and one variation in its presentation is Leber neuroretinitis. The unilateral presence of exudation as a macular star and papilledema represent its most common presentation.
METHODS: Observational case report. A 7-year-old girl presented a sudden decrease of visual acuity and bilateral macular exudation (macular star) as well as choroiditis.

Bullous pemphigoid is the most common subepidermal autoimmune blistering disease. However, it is very rare in the pediatric population. A 5-month-old male infant presented with multiple bullae located on palms and soles. Complete blood count revealed relative eosinophilia . A biopsy revealed a subepidermal blister present along with a dermal mononuclear infiltrate rich in eosinophils. In focal areas collagen flame figures, were also observed. Bronchial hyperreactivity (BHR) is found in Sjögren's syndrome, as in a number of other conditions such as asthma. BHR associated with asthma can be effectively treated with corticosteroids or sodium cromoglycate. We treated 19 Sjögren's syndrome patients with BHR with inhaled budesonide and inhaled cromoglycate for 6 weeks each. BACKGROUND: The efficacy and safety profile of ciclesonide (CIC) in the treatment of asthma was evaluated in a large patient population in a real-life setting in Germany.
METHODS: 24,037 patients with persistent mild/moderate bronchial asthma were enrolled into three observational studies with identical design. Data were pooled and analyzed. Patients received ciclesonide (160 μg/day) and were observed for 3 months. FEV(1), PEF, NO, asthma episodes, use of rescue medication and adverse drug reactions (ADR) were recorded.

Mometasone furoate is a new corticosteroid, synthesized to have an improved ratio of anti-inflammatory potential to adverse effects. The guinea pig maximization test was used to determine the sensitizing capacity of mometasone furoate, and also to investigate cross-reaction patterns in animals sensitized to tixocortol pivalate and budesonide, respectively. Tixocortol pivalate was shown to be a sensitizer in the guinea pig, but cross-reactions to other tested corticosteroids were not observed. Furthermore, no sensitizing capacity could be demonstrated for budesonide or mometasone furoate.

Primary cultures of rat glial cells were established from newborn rat forebrains.
