Tertiary syphilis is recently a rare disease in Japan. In this paper, we report a rare case of syphilitic orchitis. The patient was in his early forties. The left scrotal contents were swelling and a low echoic nodule measuring about 30 mm in diameter was detected on ultrasonography. A retrospective study of 376 patients with dementia was performed to determine the rate of syphilis seropositivity. Subjects were seen over a 2.5-year period and received medical, social, psychiatric, neurological, and laboratory evaluations. Mean age was 74 years and 73% were women. Syphilis can closely mimic malignancy in both clinical presentation and appearance. We describe a case of a 58-year-old man presenting with painful perianal masses raising concern for anal carcinoma. CASE PRESENTATION: A 40-year-old male presented the the emergency department (ED) due to a diffuse body rash after a sexual encounter. Examination revealed a maculopapular rash that included the palms and soles of the feet bilaterally. Fifty-one consecutive patients with clinical findings and history consistent with pityriasis rosea underwent a complete oral examination to search for any concomitant oral lesions. OBJECTIVES: Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by treponema pallidum. Its rash usually affects the trunk and limbs extensively, including the palms and soles of the feet. Secondary syphilis confined to the face is extremely rare.
METHODS: We report a case of annular rupioid secondary syphilis, which was misdiagnosed as verruca vulgaris.
RESULTS: The patient's lesions were confined to the face and resembled oyster shells. Her serological tests results were positive for treponema pallidum particle agglutination assay (TPPA) and rapid plasma reagin (RPR) (1:64).
