Distinctive Variables From Sociodemographic, Physical Function, Social, and Psychoaffective Spheres Are Significantly Linked to the Perception of Mistreatment of Patients With Rheumatic Diseases.

BACKGROUND: Mistreatment adversely affects outcomes from patients with rheumatic diseases (RMDs). We previously observed that half of Mexican outpatients with RMDs perceived mistreatment. The study examines the factors associated with mistreatment. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted at 2 academic urban centers for RMDs located in Mexico (June 28, 2023, to January 10, 2025). Consecutive outpatients completed the Mistreatment Scale adapted for RMDs, and additional patients reported outcome measures. A pro-environmental behavior model for investigating the roles of social norm, risk perception, and place attachment on adaptation strategies of climate change.

Today's climate change is a major problem and challenge for the global environment and human civilization, and it can lead to dramatical floods over specific regions. As climate change intensifies, climate change adaptation strategies, such as flood insurance, energy taxes, and other risky financial strategies, have drawn worldwide attention and discussion. Risk control methods have been widely used to mitigate the impact of climate change on past flood losses, but past risk control strategies on climate change have not focused on the exploration of the relationship between environment, societ

Disconnect between Patient and Dermatologist Perceptions in Androgenetic Alopecia Therapy: Social Analysis across More than 100,000 Digital Conversations.

INTRODUCTION: Individuals with alopecia encounter numerous treatment options and obtain guidance from both medical and nonmedical sources. Despite stronger clinical evidence for prescription therapies, many patients favor over-the-counter (OTC) products. We used large-scale social listening to characterize public sentiment toward androgenetic alopecia (AGA) treatments and compare perceptions of OTC and prescription modalities. METHODS: Over 700,000 publicly available posts (March 2024-April 2025) from major online forums were captured using hair-loss-related keywords, filtered to approximatel

Perceptions of Health Risks and Accessibility: A Social Media-Based Pilot Study of Factors Influencing Use of Vaping and Combustible Tobacco Products.

The prevalence of e-cigarette use (vaping) in young adults is concerning, particularly because the initiation of combustible tobacco use is higher in e-cigarette vapers. It is unclear why young, never-smoker vapers decide to start smoking cigarettes, but they may be influenced by perceptions of health risks and accessibility. We designed a social media questionnaire to assess factors driving the initiation of combustible tobacco use by e-cigarette vapers (multi-inhalant use) and switches between inhalant types. Respondents reported an earlier initiation of combustible tobacco versus vaping (18

Knowledge, Attitudes, Practices and Perceptions of the Eco-Bio-Social Determinants of Dengue Transmission in São Paulo, Brazil: A Mixed-Methods Study.

INTRODUCTION: Dengue is a mosquito-borne disease prevalent in Latin America and the Caribbean. Transmission is determined by ecological, biological and social (eco-bio-social) factors. Understanding the knowledge, attitudes, practices and perceptions of dengue's eco-bio-social factors among at-risk populations is essential for dengue prevention. We used the Ecohealth approach to investigate the socioeconomic and demographic factors associated with dengue knowledge, attitudes, practices and perceptions among residents of São Paulo. METHODS: We conducted a concurrent nested mixed-methods study

Nonmedical Prescription Drug Use Among Female Adolescents: The Relative Influence of Maternal Factors, Social Norms, and Perceptions of Risk and Availability.

Increasing understanding of the risk and protective factors for adolescent nonmedical use of prescription drugs (NMUPD) could inform prevention efforts. Several correlates have been identified, including parental factors, perceptions about use and accessibility, social norms, and age. However, these constructs have rarely been simultaneously examined using paired data from parents and adolescents. We aimed to examine the relative influence of these correlates among dyads (N=349) of mothers and adolescent daughters. Using multiple logistic regression, daughters' past NMUPD and inclination for f

Qualitative Thematic Analysis of Social Media Data to Assess Perceptions of Route of Administration for Antiretroviral Treatment among People Living with HIV.

BACKGROUND: HIV is a condition that requires lifelong treatment. Treatment options currently consist of oral antiretroviral therapies (ART) taken once or twice daily. Long-acting injectable HIV treatments are currently in development to be administered monthly or every other month. Preferences for route of administration could influence treatment adherence, which could affect treatment outcomes. The purpose of this study was to examine patient perceptions of oral and injectable routes of administration for ART. METHODS: Qualitative thematic analysis was conducted to examine 5122 online discus

Relationship among pollution concerns, attitudes toward social problems, and environmental perceptions in abandoned sites using Bayesian inferential analysis.

How do local community perceive pollution risk and social problems in abandoned areas? Which factors affect these risk perceptions? Among several factors affecting environmental perceptions, familiarity to places has long been known to positively affect landscape perception, but is this also true for abandoned area with scruffy vegetation and industrial remnants? Will long-term residents eventually adapt to and accept these neglected landscapes? In the past, efforts have largely been devoted to the cleanup of large, highly polluted areas. This left many smaller, less polluted sites, often in u

Patient Concerns and Perceptions Regarding Biologic Therapies in Ankylosing Spondylitis: Insights From a Large-Scale Survey of Social Media Platforms.

OBJECTIVE: Few studies have examined ankylosing spondylitis (AS) patients' concerns about and perceptions of biologic therapies, apart from traditional surveys. In this study, we used social media data to examine the knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs of AS patients regarding biologic therapies. METHODS: We collected posts published on 601 social media sites between January 1, 2016 and April 26, 2017. In each post, both an AS keyword and a biologic were mentioned. To explore themes within the collection of posts in an unsupervised manner, a latent Dirichlet allocation topic model was fit to th

The impact of physical complaints, social environment, and psychological functioning on IBS patients' health perceptions: looking beyond GI symptom severity.

OBJECTIVES: In the absence of a reliable biomarker, clinical decisions for a functional gastrointestinal (GI) disorder like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) depend on asking patients to appraise and communicate their health status. Self-ratings of health (SRH) have proven a powerful and consistent predictor of health outcomes, but little is known about how they relate to those relevant to IBS (e.g., quality of life (QOL), IBS symptom severity). This study examined what psychosocial factors, if any, predict SRH among a cohort of more severe IBS patients. METHODS: Subjects included 234 Rome III-p
