OBJECTIVE: To evaluate incidence, clinical, radiological and laboratory features of spontaneous upper urinary tract rupture (s-UUTR) due to ureteric stones and discuss their management.
METHODS: Out of 1629 patients admitted to the Emergency Department (ED) for renal colic from January 2015 to December 2016 and studied by kidney US and contrast enhanced CT (CECT), 31 patients had a s-UUTR categorized in 3 stages: a) local spread, b) free fluid, c) urinoma. BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The morbidity of organ-sparing renal surgery is related to intraoperative hemorrhaging and secondarily to urinary fistulae and urinoma. Various tools have been developed for gentle transection and precise control of bleeding. PURPOSE: After properly staged renal injury many children will undergo radiological reevaluation with computerized tomography, the modality frequently favored for its widespread availability and anatomical detail. The ALARA (as low as reasonably achievable) concept attempts to balance the potential future risk of radiation induced malignancy with the added information obtained by the study. At our institution ultrasound has been increasingly adopted as the followup imaging technique of choice. We sought to evaluate this practice in pediatric blunt renal trauma management.

We report a case of right ureter injury in an 11-year-old girl after a percutaneous iliosacral screwing with non-computer-assisted fluoroscopic guidance. The indication was a pelvic ring fracture, C1-1 in the Tile modified AO classification (J Am Acad Orthop Surg. 1996;4:143-151). The mechanism was a ski accident. INTRODUCTION: Duplex renal collecting system or duplex kidney (DK) commonly is associated with uropathy, with upper pole obstruction or lower pole vesicoureteral reflux (VUR). Its management is variable, ranging from therapeutic abstention to total nephrectomy. In case of damage to a single renal pole, uretero-ureteral anastomosis (UUA) is one of the surgical techniques for preserving the pathological pole. It can be performed by laparotomy, laparoscopy, or both. The aims of this study are to report the results of UUA in pathological DK, and compare outcomes depending on the surgical approach.
