The Views of the Citizens Regarding COVID-19 Vaccination.

The pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been ongoing for over three years. After the initial months of confusion and searching for different solutions in the fight against this disease, several different vaccines were developed. Although they were eagerly awaited, social networks were flooded with negative and discouraging comments about vaccines. Citizens' views on this issue varied not only from country to country but also within the same country. At the same time, a certain number of officials in some countries contributed to a negative view of vaccines. Therefore, the first goal of

Knowledge, attitude, practice and barriers on vaccination against human papillomavirus infection: a cross-sectional study among primary care physicians in Hong Kong.

This study explored the knowledge, attitude, practice and barriers to prescribe human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines among private primary care physicians in Hong Kong. A self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted by sending letters to doctors who had joined a vaccination program for school girls. From 720 surveys sent, 444 (61.7%) completed questionnaires were returned and analyzed. For knowledge, few responded to questions accurately on the prevalence of cervical HPV (27.9%) and genital wart infection (13.1%) among sexually active young women in Hong Kong, and only 44.4% correctly a

Trends of influenza vaccination coverage in pregnant women: a ten-year analysis from a French healthcare database.

Pregnant women have a high risk of severe influenza, associated with obstetrical complications. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended influenza vaccination for all pregnant women since 2012. The vaccination coverage remains low worldwide, and in Europe, due to a lack of proposition from the health care providers, and a high refusal rate from the women. The primary aim of this study was to estimate the influenza vaccination coverage (IVC) in a population of pregnant women in France, and to analyse its evolution from 2009 to 2018. The secondary objective was to describe the vaccina

Surveillance for adverse events associated with anthrax vaccination--U.S. Department of Defense, 1998-2000.

Concerns about the potential use of anthrax as a biologic weapon prompted the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to announce on December 15, 1997, anthrax vaccination of all U.S. military personnel. This effort is coordinated by the Anthrax Vaccine Immunization Program (AVIP). AVIP plans a phased vaccination process to achieve total force protection against anthrax by 2004. The current phase of implementation includes vaccination of all service members and mission-essential DoD civilian employees assigned or deployed to high-threat areas. On the basis of program monitoring, as of April 12, 2000,

[Societal impact of vaccination : beyond individual protection. Renewed interest following COVID-19 pandemic ?].

Vaccine hesitancy is growing worldwide and hampering efforts to control vaccine-preventable diseases. Healthcare professionals have a critical role in the acceptance of vaccination by patients. Increased awareness about the benefits of vaccination is one of the recommended strategy to counter vaccine hesitancy. Beyond protection of individuals against specific pathogens, vaccination have broad benefits at multiple levels of society, partly mediated by community protection. These benefits include improved access to education, increased productivity and positive fiscal impact, limitation of gend

Vaccine hesitancy is anything but homogeneous: The social representations of COVID-19 vaccines among not hesitant and slightly hesitant vaccinated adults.

Vaccine hesitancy (VH) among vaccinated individuals remains a relatively under investigated topic. This study contributes to fill this research gap by examining the social representations of COVID-19 vaccines among vaccinated Italian adults. Using a mixed-method approach, we analyzed data from 664 vaccinated Italian adults through hierarchical cluster analysis and similarity analysis. Results revealed distinct representational patterns between non-hesitant and slightly hesitant adopters despite their shared vaccination status. While safety emerged as a core element in both groups' representati

[Elements of misinformation in the public perception of the dengue vaccine in Brazil: an analysis of comments on social media].

In 2024, dengue in Brazil reached alarming epidemiological rates, being considered potentially the worst year in history. In this context, the arrival of vaccines against the disease represents a great advance for Brazil's public health. However, misinformation and fake news about vaccines pose a threat to the success of immunization campaigns. In this article, we aim to understand the elements of misinformation present in the public perception about the arrival of dengue vaccines in Brazil. To this end, 1,550 comments were collected on online posts from five major media outlets in the country

Appropriation and commercialization of the Pasteur anthrax vaccine.

Whereas Pasteur patented the biotechnological processes that he invented between 1857 and 1873 in the agro-food domain, he did not file any patents on the artificial vaccine preparation processes that he subsequently developed. This absence of patents can probably be explained by the 1844 patent law in France that established the non-patentable status of pharmaceutical preparations and remedies, including those for use in veterinary medicine. Despite the absence of patents, the commercial exploitation of the anthrax vaccine in the 1880s and 1890s led to a technical and commercial monopoly by P

[The challenges of continuing COVID-19 vaccination in a vaccine hesitancy scenario].

This study aimed to map controversies related to the interaction of the discontinuity of the vaccination schedule against COVID-19 and vaccine hesitancy in a municipality in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil. This research was guided by the cartography of controversies, a methodological perspective anchored in Actor-Network Theory. Interviews were conducted with 36 adults and older adults with an incomplete vaccination schedule, eight healthcare providers, and five health managers. A field diary was used to produce data. This study found three user profiles: confident, hesitant, and vaccinated b

Beyond binary: a machine-learning classification of childhood COVID-19 vaccination intentions using behavioural data.

BACKGROUND: Immunisation is one of the most cost-effective tools for preventing infectious diseases. Yet, vaccine hesitancy, defined as a delayed acceptance or refusal of vaccination despite availability, has grown in recent years, threatening global public health efforts. This study investigates how socio-demographic and behavioural factors relate to willingness to vaccinate children against COVID-19, moving beyond binary pro-/anti-vaccine classifications to explore a more nuanced spectrum of intentions. METHODS: Using a large-scale survey conducted in summer 2021 among 5,552 adults (2,041 pa

Social imitation dynamics of vaccination driven by vaccine effectiveness and beliefs.

Declines in vaccination coverage for vaccine-preventable diseases, such as measles and chickenpox, have enabled their surprising comebacks and pose significant public health challenges in the wake of growing vaccine hesitancy. Vaccine opt-outs and refusals are often fueled by beliefs concerning perceptions of vaccine effectiveness and exaggerated risks. Here, we quantify the impact of competing beliefs - vaccine-averse versus vaccine-neutral - on social imitation dynamics of vaccination, alongside the epidemiological dynamics of disease transmission. These beliefs may be pre-existing and fixed

HPV vaccine awareness and acceptance among rural women in Xinjiang, China.

To investigate the awareness, willingness, and barriers to Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine among women in regions with relatively insufficient medical resources. A screening population of women aged 25-83 from Bachu and Moyu counties in China received a structured interview questionnaire survey from February 2023 to August 2024. A total of 8,618 individuals participated in the survey. Only 30.0% and 35.4% were aware of HPV and the HPV vaccine, respectively. Residing in Bachu, having education, non-agricultural occupations, and a history of cervical lesions or inflammation were associated wi

Determinants of non-compliance with additional booster doses of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in people living with HIV (PWH): An observational study based on a behavioral and epidemiological survey in Rome (Italy).

Rejection of new anti-SARS-CoV-2 booster doses among immunosuppressed and elderly individuals may be a concern, especially as the intention to vaccinate does not always translate into actual behavior. Few studies have addressed this issue in people living with HIV (PWH). We investigated attitudes of PWH toward SARS-CoV-2 vaccination, focusing on factors associated with noncompliance with additional vaccine doses (AVDs, 4th and 5th). We analyzed participants of the prospective observational HIV-VAC study conducted at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases "L. Spallanzani" IRCCS, Rome (S

Education increases COVID-19 vaccine uptake among people in Canadian federal prisons in a prospective randomized controlled trial: The EDUCATE study.

Education is key to behavioural adoption and acceptability of health interventions. We evaluated the impact of an educational intervention administered 1:1 to individuals incarcerated in four Canadian federal prisons on COVID-19 vaccine uptake. Eligible individuals (those who had refused all COVID-19 vaccines) were randomized 2:1 to receive the educational intervention or not (control group); those who received the intervention completed questionnaires assessing COVID-19 vaccine-related knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs pre- and post-educational intervention. The primary and secondary outcome
