The world federation of neurology and its global engagement with the World Health Organization and the United Nations economic and social council.

The World Federation of Neurology (WFN) has increased efforts in global advocacy and promotion of neurology. These efforts formed the basis of global WFN activities between 2023 and 2025, concurring with worldwide interest in promoting brain health along with the dissemination of the World Health Organization (WHO) Intersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy and Other Neurological Disorders (IGAP). To achieve these goals, the WFN leveraged the concept of advocacy, which allows promoting neurology at the macro- (global), meso- (regional), and micro-levels. Two main strategic WFN advocacy instr

Late release of World Health Organization governing body documents: Trends in documentation timing at the World Health Assembly and Executive Board and considerations for Member State engagement.

Timely access to documentation is essential for meaningful participation in global health governance. At the World Health Organization (WHO), governing body documents for the World Health Assembly (WHA) and the Executive Board (EB) provide the basis on which Member States assess agenda items, consult domestically, and prepare their negotiating positions. In this sense, the timing of document release directly affects transparency, accountability, and quality of decision-making. This study examines trends in documentation timing between 2016 and 2026 using data from the WHO governing body docume

An investment too good to be true?: Reassessing the World Health Organization and World Bank return-on-investment estimates for pandemic preparedness.

The World Health Organization, World Bank, G20 and related health agencies have requested annual investments of US$31.1 billion in pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. To justify these unprecedented costs, they rely on a return-on-investment case developed by WHO and World Bank. Any investment in one area of public health will have knock-on effects on others, through diversion of funds and human resources. Intended outcomes must outweigh alternate investments and be likely to achieve the results on which such comparisons are predicated. This perspective examines the assumptions unde

Evolution of the World Health Organization's programmatic actions to control diarrheal diseases.

The Program for the Control of Diarrheal Diseases (CDD) of the World Health Organization (WHO) was created in 1978, the year the Health for All Strategy was launched at the Alma Ata International Conference on Primary Health Care. CDD quickly became one of the pillars of this strategy, with its primary goal of reducing diarrhea-associated mortality among infants and young children in developing countries. WHO expanded the previous cholera-focused unit into one that addressed all diarrheal diseases, and uniquely combined support to research and to national CDD Programs. We describe the history
