Comparative Evaluation of Longevity of Fluoride Release from Three Different Fluoride Varnishes: An Observational Study.

INTRODUCTION: The cycles of demineralization and remineralization result in a dynamic process of caries development. Caries are prevented by the shift in the balance from demineralization to remineralization at the tooth-oral fluid interface with the help of salivary fluoride levels (in parts per million). The advantages of fluoride varnish application over other substitutes like dentifrices, mouthrinses, gels, or foams are that varnishes are well tolerated by infants, young children, or children with special healthcare needs and have prolonged therapeutic effects. This study was formulated to

Do angulated implants increase the amount of bone loss around implants in the anterior maxilla?

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between angulated implants and the bone loss around implants in the anterior maxilla. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The subjects studied had a missing tooth in the anterior maxilla and a bone deficiency that required restoration with an angulated dental implant. After mounting the casts on the articulator, the amount of direction was measured with a facebow by calculating the difference between the mean buccopalatal angulation of the 2 adjacent natural teeth and the buccopalatal angulation of the implant abutment to the occlusal plane. Does the quality of dental images depend on patient's age and sex ?- Explanations from the forensic sciences.

The objective of this analysis was to investigate the dependency of image quality of dental panoramic radiographs on patient's age and sex, and to demonstrate that forensic science can explain these relationships. The image qualities of 100 dental panoramic radiographs obtained from 50 patients with two devices were assessed by ten independent observers of different specialisations. Image quality decreased with increasing age of the patients (P=0.003). One of the devices turned out to be superior to the other; however, this difference between the devices was present only in older patients but

Relationship between prosthodontic status, caries, and periodontal disease in a geriatric population.

This study evaluated the influence of prosthodontic status on caries a and periodontal disease in a hospitalized population of elderly people. Among the data gathered was information on caries, gingival condition, oral hygiene, plaque accumulation, and factors related to the prevalence, type and quality of the prostheses present. There was no significant association between the type of rehabilitation and the economic, social, or educational variables, but it appeared that removable partial denture wearers had less concern for oral health. Root caries and periodontal diseases were more frequent

Dental implants in patients with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome: a case series study.

Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS) encompasses six types of hereditary connective tissue disorders, with skin hyperextensibility, joint hypermobility, and connective tissue fragility as the main findings. Oral health is also affected, sometimes including periodontitis and tooth loss. This is the first report on dental implant treatment for patients with hypermobility or classic EDS. Five female patients aged 19 to 68 years who tolerated treatment under local anesthesia and did not require bone augmentation were enrolled in the study and received 16 implants. They were observed for 2 to 12 years. No

Immediate provisionalization of NanoTite implants in support of single-tooth and unilateral restorations: one-year interim report of a prospective, multicenter study.

BACKGROUND: Clinical studies reporting immediate loading of endosseous implants for edentulous cases and for fixed partial restorations have been well documented with satisfactory survival rates. Implants with a recently developed, nanometer-scale surface topography (NanoTite, BIOMET 3i, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, USA), created by discrete crystalline depositions (DCD) of calcium phosphate nano-crystals onto a dual acid-etched (DAE) surface, show enhanced early fixation in preclinical studies when compared with DAE-surfaced implants. These outcomes suggest DCD-surfaced implants may be advantageou
