Associations between integrase strand-transfer inhibitors and cardiovascular disease in people living with HIV: a multicentre prospective study from the RESPOND cohort consortium.

BACKGROUND: Although associations between older antiretroviral drug classes and cardiovascular disease in people living with HIV are well described, there is a paucity of data regarding a possible association with integrase strand-transfer inhibitors (INSTIs). We investigated whether exposure to INSTIs was associated with an increased incidence of cardiovascular disease. METHODS: RESPOND is a prospective, multicentre, collaboration study between 17 pre-existing European and Australian cohorts and includes more than 32 000 adults living with HIV in clinical care after Jan 1, 2012. Individuals

Sexual-orientation disparities in whole person health: age- and gender-stratified analysis of patients in a safety-net system.

INTRODUCTION: Despite advancements in LGB+ rights, LGB+ individuals continue to face significant healthcare disparities, particularly in areas such as homelessness, mental health, substance use, health service access, and victimization. Addressing these disparities is essential to improving the quality of life and health outcomes for this population. This study examines the comprehensive health needs of LGB+ individuals using a Whole Person Health (WPH) approach, which includes Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) as well as other critical aspects of well-being, through EHR-based Sexual Orient

Rationale and Design of an Ecological Momentary Assessment Study Examining Predictors of Binge Eating Among Sexual Minority and Heterosexual Young Women: Protocol for the Health and Experiences in Real Life (HER Life) Study.

BACKGROUND: Previous research has identified health disparities between sexual minority and heterosexual women, including increased rates of obesity and binge eating in sexual minority women. Established predictors of binge eating behavior include negative emotions and sociocultural processes; however, these studies are generally conducted in samples of young women where sexual identity is not known or reported. There is a dearth of research evaluating how sexual minority-specific factors (eg, minority stress and connectedness to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community) ma

Barriers and enablers of PrEP uptake among populations at risk for HIV in Indonesia: social, psychological, and structural perspectives.

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is effective for HIV prevention; however, its uptake remains uneven among key populations due to social norms, stigma, and structural barriers. In Indonesia, men who have sex with men, transgender individuals, female sex workers, and people who inject drugs navigate PrEP use within the context of the moral regulation of sexuality and unequal healthcare access. This study integrates the theory of planned behaviour (TPB) and the Health Belief Model (HBM), alongside stigma and multidimensional healthcare access, to examine the determinants of PrEP intentions and us

Cisgenderism and transphobia in sexual health care and associations with testing for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections: Findings from the Australian Trans & Gender Diverse Sexual Health Survey.

Transgender and gender diverse people have unique risks and needs in the context of sexual health, but little is known about sexual health care for this population. In 2018, a national, online survey of sexual health and well-being was conducted with trans and gender diverse people in Australia (n = 1,613). Data from this survey were analysed to describe uptake of sexual health care and experiences of interpersonal and structural cisgenderism and transphobia. Experiences of cisgenderism and transphobia in sexual health care were assessed using a new, four-item scale of 'gender insensitivity',

Application of the "syndemics" theory to explain unprotected sex and transactional sex: A crosssectional study in men who have sex with men (MSM), transgender women, and non-MSM in Colombia.

INTRODUCTION: Men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TW) in Colombia are highly affected by HIV. To improve understanding of the role of HIV risk behaviors in HIV acquisition, we used the syndemic framework, a useful concept to inform prevention efforts. OBJECTIVE: To examine the effect of four psychosocial conditions, namely, forced sex, history of childhood sexual abuse, frequent alcohol use, and illicit drug use on unprotected sex and the synergistic effects ("syndemic" effects) of these conditions on HIV risk behavior. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We enrolled a total of 812 mal

Confidential, accessible point-of-care sexual health services to support the participation of key populations in biobehavioural surveys: Lessons for Papua New Guinea and other settings where reach of key populations is limited.

To achieve the UNAIDS 90-90-90 targets at a national level, many countries must accelerate service coverage among key populations. To do this, key population programs have adopted methods similar to those used in respondent-driven sampling (RDS) to expand reach. A deeper understanding of factors from RDS surveys that enhance health service engagement can improve key population programs. To understand the in-depth lives of key populations, acceptance of expanded point-of-care biological testing and determine drivers of participation in RDS surveys, we conducted semi-structured interviews with 1

Using a two-step method to measure transgender identity in Latin America/the Caribbean, Portugal, and Spain.

Few comparative data are available internationally to examine health differences by transgender identity. A barrier to monitoring the health and well-being of transgender people is the lack of inclusion of measures to assess natal sex/gender identity status in surveys. Data were from a cross-sectional anonymous online survey of members (n > 36,000) of a sexual networking website targeting men who have sex with men in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries/territories in Latin America/the Caribbean, Portugal, and Spain. Natal sex/gender identity status was assessed using a two-step method (

Effectiveness of peer counselling in addressing psychological distress and exposure to violence among sexual and gender minorities in Nepal: a study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: The burden of social stressors (discrimination, prejudice, violence, and stigmatization) is disproportionately high among LGBTIQA + (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and Asexual) individuals. These stressors negatively influence the overall well-being of this population which in turn affects their health-seeking behaviours, including the disclosure of psychosocial concerns to health workers. Peer-led mental health interventions have therefore been identified as a potentially suitable and acceptable approach for this population. This protocol presents the SAATHI

Barriers and facilitators to pre-exposure prophylaxis uptake among male sex workers in Mexico: an application of the RE-AIM framework.

BACKGROUND: The ImPrEP México demonstration project is the first to distribute free HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women living in Mexico. In Mexico City, MSM who are also male sex workers (MSWs) face a disproportionately high risk of HIV infection. PrEP is highly effective for HIV prevention, yet "real-life" implementation among MSWs is a challenge due to the unique adherence barriers faced by this population. METHODS: This study uses the RE-AIM implementation science framework to characterize the unique barriers to and facilitators of

Syndemic Conditions, HIV Transmission Risk Behavior, and Transactional Sex Among Transgender Women.

This study examined the effect of four syndemic conditions-namely, polydrug use, depression, childhood sexual abuse, and intimate partner violence-on rates of HIV transmission risk behavior (TRB) and separately, transactional sex among transgender women. TRB was defined as the number of condomless penetrative sex events with a casual or main partner of discordant or unknown HIV status. Using data from 212 transgender women in New York City, multivariable analyses revealed that, compared to those with no syndemic conditions, dramatically higher rates of recent HIV TRB events (ARR = 8.84, p < 0.

Historical and Current State of Dermatologic Care for Sexual and Gender Minority Populations.

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning/sexual and gender minority (LGBTQ/SGM) community is a growing population with unique lifestyles, sexual practices, beliefs, health issues, and concerns. Although significant advances have been achieved in recent years to establish better care for LGBTQ/SGM patients, they still face insurmountable stigmatization and health care inequality. Dermatologists play an important role in LGBTQ/SGM patients' well-being because they not only treat their skin conditions, but also help them achieve desirable physical characteristics. This ar

The Role of Structural Barriers in Risky Sexual Behavior, Victimization and Readiness to Change HIV/STI-Related Risk Behavior Among Transgender Women.

This study examines the role of structural barriers experienced by a community-based sample of 63 HIV-positive and negative transgender women that may elevate HIV infection and transmission risks. Separate hierarchical linear multiple regression analyses tested the association between structural barriers (e.g., unemployment, lack of food, shelter) and condomless anal sex acts, abuse, and readiness to change risk behavior, while controlling for other related factors. Among this primarily Hispanic and African-American sample, HIV-positive and negative transgender women experienced a similar numb

An HIV intervention tailored for black young men who have sex with men in the House Ball Community.

Black young men who have sex with men (BYMSM) are the group most disproportionately impacted by HIV in the USA and most in need of efficacious interventions to address community-level factors that increase their vulnerability to HIV. The House Ball Community (HBC) is a distinct social network within the larger BYMSM community that may be particularly vulnerable to social norms and stigma around HIV. This study tailored an evidence-based, community-level popular opinion leader (OL) intervention for use within the HBC. The intervention, called Promoting Ovahness through Safer Sex Education (POSS
