UNLABELLED: Open repair of full-thickness tears of the rotator cuff generally improves function, although anatomic failures are not uncommon. PURPOSE: This study evaluated the results achieved in the surgical treatment of all mandibular fractures at two university centers using the 2.7 AO mandibular system.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 227 patients presenting with 180 single fractures and 47 with double fractures (274 osteosyntheses) were included in this prospective study.
RESULTS: During a mean follow-up of 27.5 months (minimum, 12 months), an overall complication rate of 7% was observed. No infection justified early removal of the osteosynthesis material.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to characterize mortality and aortic valve replacement after valve-sparing aortic root replacement (V-SARR) in a multicentre cohort.
METHODS: Between 1994 and 2014, 1015 patients had V-SARR with (n = 288, 28%) or without cusp/commissure repair (n = 727, 72%) at the centres of Lübeck (n = 343, 34%), Stuttgart (n = 346, 34%), Hamburg (n = 109, 11%) and Freiburg (n = 217, 21%), Germany. Comparative survival of an age- and gender-matched general population was calculated. Log-rank tests and multiple logistic regression were used to identify risk factors.

BACKGROUND: Pelvic resections are challenging, and reconstruction of the resected acetabulum to restore mobility and stability is even more difficult. Extracorporeal radiation therapy (ECRT or extracorporeal irradiation) of autograft bone and reimplantation allows for a perfect size match and has been used with some success in the extremities.
