OBJECTIVE: To measure the total protein content of gallbladder bile, and assess how treatment with aspirin and the gallstone solvents chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) and ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) affects the biliary protein concentration.
DESIGN: Prospective study.
SETTING: Teaching hospital, Sweden.
SUBJECTS: 102 Consecutive patients undergoing cholecystectomy for cholesterol gallstones (n = 73) or adenomyomas or cholesterolosis in the gallbladder wall (n = 29). Thirty of the patients with gallstones were treated with CDCA, UDCA or aspirin.

Luschka ducts (LD) of the gallbladder (GB) are rare congenital lesions. They are defined as bile ducts that connect directly the hepatic bile duct system to the GB. We aimed to present the characteristics of 55 cases of GB LDs as diagnosed on cholecystectomy specimens. Thickening of the gallbladder wall may result from a large spectrum of pathological conditions, intrinsic as well as extrinsic to the biliary tract, and may have different appearances. Accurate diagnosis is usually established after a correlation of imaging findings, laboratory data and clinical history. US remains the initial imaging modality for the evaluation of acute right upper quadrant pain. CT and MRI are complementary to US and have an increasing role in assessing a thickened-wall gallbladder.

Gallbladder (GB) adenomyomatosis (ADM) is a benign, acquired anomaly, characterized by hypertrophy of the mucosal epithelium that invaginates into the interstices of a thickened muscularis forming so-called Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses. The hyperparathyroidism-jaw tumour (HPT-JT) syndrome is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by occurrence of parathyroid tumours, often atypical adenomas and carcinomas, ossifying jaw fibromas, renal tumours and uterine benign and malignant neoplasms. HPT-JT is caused by mutations of the cell division cycle 73 (CDC73) gene, located on chromosome 1q31.2 and encodes a 531 amino acid protein, parafibromin. To facilitate in vivo studies of Cdc73 in tumourigenesis we generated conventional (Cdc73+/-) and conditional parathyroid-specific (Cdc73+/L/PTH-Cre and Cdc73L/L/PTH-Cre) mouse models.

The authors present a case report of a 62-year-old woman who experienced irregular genital bleeding. Although the serum hCG level was extremely low, transvaginal ultrasonography revealed vesicle pattern in the uterine cavity, suggesting trophoblastic disease. Hysterectomy was performed and histological diagnosis was adenomyomatous polyp. To our knowledge, this is the first report that the adnomyomatous polyp can demonstrate the vesicle pattern on ultrasonography.
