[Electric response audiometry (brainstem potentials, late auditory potential N1): observations at patients suffering from menière's disease or sudden hearing loss (author's transl)].

At some patients suffering from Menière's disease or sudden hearing loss the late auditory potential N1 and the brainstem potentials were registered. It could be shown, that an exact differential diagnosis between these both illnesses was not possible by means of these acoustically evoked potentials. A statistical analysis of the measured values of the brainstem potential IV ascertained this statement. Furthermore it was not possible by means of these potential to predict an improvement of hearing at patients with sudden hearing loss. Finally the potentials showed an increasing of their latenc

A Comparison of Hearing Thresholds, and the Resulting Prescribed Gain and Hearing Aid Outputs, Using Gold Standard Audiometry and the TympaHealth Hearing Assessment Tool.

OBJECTIVE: Phone- and tablet-based hearing testing systems are now widely available. Here, we evaluated one such system from TympaHealth by comparing air conduction thresholds and resultant hearing aid targets and output, measured with the TympaHealth system with those measured using standard audiometry. DESIGN: The hearing thresholds of 35 adults were measured using standard audiometry and the TympaHealth system. Each set of thresholds was used to generate NAL-NL2 targets and program a hearing aid. The data from each system were compared. RESULTS: Bland-Altman analyses showed overall mean d

[Implementation of the new quality assurance agreement for the fitting of hearing aids in daily practice. Part 2: New diagnostic aspects of speech audiometry].

Upon review of the statutory health insurance reimbursement guidelines, a specific quality assurance questionnaire concerned with the provision of hearing aids was introduced that assesses elements of patient satisfaction within Germany's public healthcare system. APHAB questionnaire-based patient evaluation of the benefit of hearing aids represents the third pillar of audiological diagnostics, alongside classical pure-tone and speech audiometry. Another new aspect of the national guidelines is inclusion of free-field measurements in noise with and without hearing aids. Part 2 of this review d

Functional implications of Cav 2.3 R-type voltage-gated calcium channels in the murine auditory system - novel vistas from brainstem-evoked response audiometry.

Voltage-gated Ca2+ channels (VGCCs) are considered to play a key role in auditory perception and information processing within the murine inner ear and brainstem. In the past, Cav 1.3 L-type VGCCs gathered most attention as their ablation causes congenital deafness. However, isolated patch-clamp investigation and localization studies repetitively suggested that Cav 2.3 R-type VGCCs are also expressed in the cochlea and further components of the ascending auditory tract, pointing to a potential functional role of Cav 2.3 in hearing physiology. Thus, we performed auditory profiling of Cav 2.3+/+

Predicting Matrix Test Effectiveness for Evaluating Auditory Performance in Noise Using Pure-Tone Audiometry and Speech Recognition in Quiet in Cochlear Implant Recipients.

INTRODUCTION: Auditory performance in noise of cochlear implant recipients can be assessed with the adaptive Matrix test (MT); however, when the speech-to-noise ratio (SNR) exceeds 15 dB, the background noise has any negative impact on the speech recognition. Here, we aim to evaluate the predictive power of aided pure-tone audiometry and speech recognition in quiet and establish cut-off values for both tests that indicate whether auditory performance in noise can be assessed using the Matrix sentence test in a diffuse noise environment. METHODS: Here, we assessed the power of pure-tone audiom

Disease-specificity in correlations between speech audiometry, hearing-related quality of life, and varying calculation methods for pure tone average in middle ear diseases.

PURPOSE: This study examined whether different methods for calculating pure tone average (PTA) yield clinically relevant differences in correlations with speech audiometry and hearing-related quality of life (QoL) in conductive and mixed hearing loss. Additionally, we investigated whether these associations vary among distinct middle ear pathologies: otosclerosis, acute otitis media (AOM) and chronic otitis media (COM). METHODS: In an ambispective cohort study at a tertiary referral center, 220 ears were analyzed. 194 ears were collected retrospectively. 26 patients were recruited prospective

Automated pure tone audiometry (PTA) in the assessment of hearing loss in pediatric populations: A systematic review and meta-analysis of diagnostic test accuracy studies.

BACKGROUND: Childhood hearing loss severely delays the normal development of children. While traditional pure-tone audiometry (PTA) is the gold standard, it faces logistical barriers, specialist shortages, and high costs. Automated, smartphone-based testing addresses these gaps by enabling remote, task-shifted screening by non-specialists. This meta-analysis evaluates the diagnostic accuracy of automated PTA specifically within pediatric populations. METHODS: We searched for relevant articles up to March 2026 from PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Two independent reviewers extracted data fr

Evaluation of Speed and Accuracy of Next-Generation Auditory Steady State Response and Auditory Brainstem Response Audiometry in Children With Normal Hearing and Hearing Loss.

OBJECTIVES: The first objective of this study was to compare the predicted audiometric thresholds obtained by auditory steady state response (ASSR) and auditory brainstem response (ABR) in infants and toddlers when both techniques use optimal stimuli and detection algorithms. This information will aid in determining the basis for large discrepancies in ABR and ASSR measures found in past studies. The hypothesis was that advancements in ASSR response detection would improve (lower) thresholds and decrease discrepancies between the thresholds produced by the two techniques. The second objective

[Electric response audiometry (brain stem potentials and late potential N1) in patients with acoustic neurinoma or space-occupying lesion in the region of the brain stem].

In patients with acoustic neuronoma or space-occupying lesion in the region of the brainstem we recorded preoperatively the brainstem potentials as well as the late potential N1. With one exception all patients investigated showed changes in the brainstem potential pattern. When stimulating monaurally there exists a clear side difference, that means the changes in the potential pattern are more distinct on the side of the tumour than on the opposite side and then only if an obstructive hydrocephalus exists. Moreover we could demonstrate in patients with tumours in the region of the brainstem t

Three-year experience with the Sophono in children with congenital conductive unilateral hearing loss: tolerability, audiometry, and sound localization compared to a bone-anchored hearing aid.

Bone conduction devices (BCDs) are advocated as an amplification option for patients with congenital conductive unilateral hearing loss (UHL), while other treatment options could also be considered. The current study compared a transcutaneous BCD (Sophono) with a percutaneous BCD (bone-anchored hearing aid, BAHA) in 12 children with congenital conductive UHL. Tolerability, audiometry, and sound localization abilities with both types of BCD were studied retrospectively. The mean follow-up was 3.6 years for the Sophono users (n = 6) and 4.7 years for the BAHA users (n = 6). In each group, two pa
