Risk exploration and prediction model construction for linezolid-resistant Enterococcus faecalis based on big data in a province in southern China.

BACKGROUND: Enterococcus faecalis is a common cause of healthcare-associated infections. Its resistance to linezolid, the antibiotic of last resort for vancomycin-resistant enterococci, has become a growing threat in healthcare settings. METHODS: We analyzed the data of E. faecalis isolates from 26 medical institutions between 2018 and 2020 and performed univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses to determine the independent predictors for linezolid-resistant E. faecalis (LREFs). Then, we used the artificial neural network (ANN) and logistic regression (LR) to build a prediction

A novel framework to predict chlorophyll-a concentrations in water bodies through multi-source big data and machine learning algorithms.

Eutrophication happens when water bodies are enriched by minerals and nutrients. Dense blooms of noxious are the most obvious effect of eutrophication that harms water quality, and by increasing toxic substances damage the water ecosystem. Therefore, it is critical to monitor and investigate the development process of eutrophication. The concentration of chlorophyll-a (chl-a) in water bodies is an essential indicator of eutrophication in them. Previous studies in predicting chlorophyll-a concentrations suffered from low spatial resolution and discrepancies between predicted and observed values

Big data evidence of the impact of COVID-19 hospitalizations on mortality rates of non-COVID-19 critically ill patients.

The COVID-19 virus caused a global pandemic leading to a swift policy response. While this response was designed to prevent the spread of the virus and support those with COVID-19, there is growing evidence regarding measurable impacts on non-COVID-19 patients. The paper uses a large dataset from administrative records of the Brazilian public health system (SUS) to estimate pandemic spillover effects in critically ill health care delivery, i.e. the additional mortality risk that COVID-19 ICU hospitalizations generate on non-COVID-19 patients receiving intensive care. The data contain the unive

Big data analytics for CLEC5A dynamics based on single cell genomics and proteomics reveal its diverse functions in human diseases.

BACKGROUND: CLEC5A (C-type lectin domain family 5 member A) is an innate immune receptor implicated in inflammatory signaling, contributing to hyperinflammatory responses in infections and sterile inflammation. However, CLEC5A dynamics in human diseases remain to be identified. Here, we systematically characterized CLEC5A dynamics in humans across cells, tissues, and disease states, and to explore the functional significance of CLEC5A in macrophage activation based on single-cell genomics. METHODS: With multi-omics (scRNA-seq, proteomics and big data analytics), we analyzed extensive human tr

Separating Clinical and Subclinical Depression by Big Data Informed Structural Vulnerability Index and Its impact on Cognition: ENIGMA Dot Product.

Big Data neuroimaging collaborations including Enhancing Neuro Imaging Genetics through Meta-Analysis (ENIGMA) integrated worldwide data to identify regional brain deficits in major depressive disorder (MDD). We evaluated the sensitivity of translating ENIGMA-defined MDD deficit patterns to the individual level. We treated ENIGMA MDD deficit patterns as a vector to gauge the similarity between individual and MDD patterns by calculating ENIGMA dot product (EDP). We analyzed the sensitivity and specificity of EDP in separating subjects with (1) subclinical depressive symptoms without a diagnosis

Utility of Big Data in Predicting Short-Term Blood Glucose Levels in Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus Through Machine Learning Techniques.

Machine learning techniques combined with wearable electronics can deliver accurate short-term blood glucose level prediction models. These models can learn personalized glucose-insulin dynamics based on the sensor data collected by monitoring several aspects of the physiological condition and daily activity of an individual. Until now, the prevalent approach for developing data-driven prediction models was to collect as much data as possible to help physicians and patients optimally adjust therapy. The objective of this work was to investigate the minimum data variety, volume, and velocity re
