We describe a rare instance of isolated pulmonary regurgitation caused by a dysplastic pulmonary valve which was detected prenatally. Fetal echocardiography demonstrated severe pulmonary regurgitation, and progressive cardiomegaly because of right ventricular volume overload. After birth, conservative therapy was successful in alleviating the pulmonary vascular resistance, and the pulmonary regurgitation gradually decreased.

A young St Bernard dog was referred on three separate occasions for investigation of dyspnea and exercise intolerance. Electrocardiography was performed on each occasion and showed various forms of supraventricular tachycardia with aberrant conduction. Echocardiography showed a progressive decrease in systolic function and thoracic radiographs showed progressive cardiomegaly. The arrhythmia responded rapidly to treatment with propanolol.

We describe a case of 57-year-old man who presented with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and heart failure with rapid progression of cardiomegaly. Cardiac multislice computed tomography and echocardiography showed the ventricular pseudoaneurysm, probably due to cardiac free wall rupture caused by AMI. Cardiac CT is another useful tool for the non-invasive diagnosis of cardiac rupture.

BACKGROUND: Computed tomography scans of the chest are often requested as a complementary examination to investigate a clinical suspicion of pulmonary disease caused by the novel coronavirus 19 (COVID-19).
OBJECTIVES: Our objective was to analyze the prevalence of incidental cardiovascular findings on chest CT scans requested to assess radiological signs suggestive of COVID-19 infection.
METHODS: This cross-sectional, descriptive, and retrospective study reviewed 1,444 chest tomographies conducted in the Radiology department of the Hospital de Clínicas Gaspar Vianna, from March 1 to July 30,

AIM OF THE STUDY: Outcome of fetuses, prenatally diagnosed with sacrococcygeal teratoma (SCT), is still poorly documented. This study assesses the incidence and prenatal predictors of outcome in all fetuses prenatally diagnosed with SCT.
METHODS: This is a retrospective study on all fetuses prenatally diagnosed with SCT from 1998 to 2018 in the Netherlands. Poor outcome was defined as terminations of pregnancy (TOP) because of expected unfavorable outcome, intrauterine fetal death, or early neonatal death. Potential risk factors for poor outcome were analyzed.
MAIN RESULTS: Eighty-four fetus

The aim of the paper was to describe dynamic changes in 'pump twin's' circulatory system within clinical observation, indication analysis for premature delivery due to cardiovascular findings and long-term postnatal follow up. In echocardiographic examination of 'pump twin' no structural heart defects but functional changes in cardiovascular system have been detected (cardiomegaly, right heart disproportion, tricuspid valve regurgitation). Within 10-week observation polyhydramnios did not increased significantly, no amnioreduction procedures had been performed. Due to single umbilical artery i

Among a total of 634,440 autopsy cases in "The Annuals of Pathological Autopsy Cases in Japan" from 1958 to 1984, 929 cases with nonspecific myocarditis were registered. The average incidence was 0.15%, fluctuating around 3- to 5-year intervals with a remarkable rise observed after 1974. The major complications in cases of myocarditis were pneumonitis, hepatitis or hepatic cirrhosis, pancreatitis, malignancies, lymphatic or thymic involvements. A clinicopathological study of 36 cases of myocarditis and 27 cases of postmyocarditic cardiomegaly indicated a classification of acute, subacute, heal

Cardiac dysfunction was observed with transvaginal ultrasound in 12 fetuses at 13-17 weeks' gestation. Impaired contractility of the heart and significant reduction of the left ventricular fractional shortening were noted in these fetuses. Three of the fetuses also had supraventricular tachycardia. Many of the fetuses had cardiomegaly, oligohydramnios, a thick placenta, or associated cardiac and structural anomalies.

BACKGROUND: Intracranial arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) are rare in childhood. AVFs in fetuses are very rare and usually not associated with the vein of Galen. These can be solitary or multiple and may be associated with aneurysms or AVMs. The presentation of an AVF depends on the age of the patient, site and size of the fistula, and any accompanying lesion. Neonates can present with cardiac failure and a cranial bruit, infants with cardiomegaly and cardiac failure, children with hydrocephalus, and adolescents and adults with headaches, seizures or intracranial hemorrhage.

OBJECTIVE: Congenital absence of the ductus venosus is a rare anomaly in the fetus. The aim of our study was to evaluate the clinical and ultrasonographic features and outcome of the fetuses with ductus venosus agenesis.
STUDY DESIGN: We describe 12 cases in the period between 1992 and 2004. The umbilical vein drained either into the right atrium directly (2 cases) or by the coronary sinus (1 case), or in the inferior vena cava (5 cases), or in the azygos vein (1 case), or in the portal vein (3 cases). Our data where analyzed with the cases published in the literature. Two groups of anastomos

Few data are available regarding the prevalence and causes of false-negative auscultation (mis-auscultation) of aortic (AR), mitral (MR), or tricuspid regurgitation (TR), and there are no such data that are relevant when the patient's pretest probability of having regurgitation is unknown. The authors therefore studied 294 patients examined by pulsed Doppler echocardiography. On 755 examinations (2.57 examinations per patient), Doppler velocity patterns typical of AR, MR, or TR were found in 63, 96, and 49 patients, respectively. For all three murmurs, mis-auscultation was the rule, rather tha

Thirty-three patients with glycogen abnormalities and myocardial disease were studied. 27 of them has type II glycogen disorders (Pompe's disease, with an intralysozymal deficit of acid maltase) and 6 with type III glycogen disorders Forbes disease, with a deficit in amylo-1-6-glucosidase). The picture of a type II abnormality in the infant is very standard: early onset, often neonatally; the association with asystole and muscular hypotonia and a characteristics clinical picture; invariable cardiomegaly and typical ECG findings (short PR interval, high voltage complexes). BACKGROUND: Heart size is an important and effective parameter in chest X-ray (CXR) interpretation. Studies indicate that, especially in middle-aged men, increased cardiothoracic ratio (CTR) is associated with ischemic heart disease (IHD) and increased rate of morbidity and mortality. The CXR is the most common imaging examination of the heart.
OBJECTIVES: A good quality posterior-anterior (PA) chest radiograph is an important indicator of the cardiac size. Nowadays, CXR has given its place to more advanced approaches such as two-dimensional echocardiography. However, CXR is still more access

A 35-year-old woman delivered a macerated fetus at 29-week gestation. The placenta was hydropic and showed multiple chorioangiomas. The woman had a pregnancy which ended similarly five years earlier. Postmortem examination of the fetuses showed cardiomegaly. Recurrent fetal death associated with multiple chorioangiomas is extremely rare and may be a manifestation of an underlying chromosomal aberration.

A retrospective analysis of 50 patients with sickle cell disease was performed. The majority of patients was admitted because of sickle cell crisis, pneumonia or congestive heart failure. Global cardiomegaly, pulmonary vascular engorgement, pneumonia and infiltrative lung parenchymal abnormalities were encountered. Our study shows a very high prevalence of intrathoracic abnormalities in patients afflicted with sickle cell disease.

In 28 patients with progressive systemic sclerosis clinical symptoms are correlated with roentgen findings. The systemic disease of connective tissue shows typical roentgenological signs, such as soft tissue calcifications, generalized or localized osteoporosis, arthritis, dysfunction of oesophagus, small and large bowel, pulmonary fibrosis and cardiomegaly. A limited prognostic statement according to a clinical and radiological classification seems possible.

Within a postoperative control study of 81 patients with aortic valvular disease 14 patients showed cardiomegaly. This might be caused by several reasons as insufficiency of valvular prosthesis, coronary disease, adipositas or wrong digitalis application. All patients with pulmonary congestion, except one, showed a complete removal of congestion, because the wide position of the vessels was not yet fixed.

We report the case of a 77-year-old male who suffered from hypertension and died suddenly. At autopsy, he was found to have hypertensive cardiomegaly and a dissecting syphilitic saccular aneurysm of the ascending aorta and arch with tamponade. Chronic aortic regurgitation, which is often seen in syphilitic aortitis, produces an additive effect to the concentric left ventricular hypertrophy seen in hypertension.

In this case report, we describe an atypical clinical course in a dog with preexisting myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) subsequently complicated by the development of hyperadrenocorticism. Typically, hyperadrenocorticism can exacerbate cardiac conditions; however, this dog demonstrated paradoxical improvement. A retrospective analysis of the clinical, radiographic, echocardiographic, and hormonal data was conducted to investigate the marked reduction in cardiac size in a Maltese dog with MMVD following the diagnosis of hyperadrenocorticism. A 10-year-old spayed female Maltese dog present

Absent pulmonary valve syndrome (APVS) is a rare congenital anomaly characterized by rudimentary PV tissue with variable degrees of PV stenosis and regurgitant pulmonary blood flow. In most cases, it is associated with tetralogy of Fallot. In a minority of APVS cases, with an unknown frequency, intact ventricular septum (IVS), patent ductus arteriosus, and possible tricuspid atresia are present. This condition is known as non-Fallot type APVS. We describe a case of an antenatal diagnosis of APVS with IVS, a large patent ductus arteriosus, and ascending aorta dilatation. The mother was referred
