Haemophilus influenzae is an important respiratory pathogen. Emergence of resistance to various antibiotics is a major problem in patient management. A total of 90 strains of H. influenzae were characterized from specimens obtained from patients of acute respiratory tract infection; 13 (14.4%) belonged to type beta. On biotyping, 90% strains belonged to biotype II. BACKGROUND: Interdigital pyoderma is a common multifactorial, inflammatory disease of the canine interdigital skin. Lesions commonly become infected secondarily. In addition to management of the underlying cause, management of the chronic inflammatory changes in the interdigital skin created by secondary infection and by the release of keratin into deep tissues is required. Fluorescence biomodulation appears to modulate the inflammatory process in dermatological disorders and has shown promise in preliminary studies evaluating its use in superficial and deep pyoderma in dogs.

Pyotraumatic dermatitis (hot spot) is a common clinical syndrome in dogs but there are few prospective scientific studies related to it. The aim of this study was to investigate correlations among clinical pyotraumatic dermatitis, histopathology of the lesions and possible predisposing causes. The relationship of these with breed, age, sex and location of lesion was assessed statistically. A clinical diagnosis of acute pyotraumatic dermatitis was made in 44 privately owned dogs. Concentration of cefaclor, a new oral cephalosporin, was measured in prostatic tissue of ten patients undergoing suprapubic prostatectomy. BACKGROUND: Gingivostomatitis is a common clinical manifestation of primary herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection in children. The most common complication of herpetic gingivostomatitis is dehydration; rarely, it may be complicated by secondary bacteremia, and Kingella kingae and group A Streptococcus infections have been reported to be responsible for such episodes.
