TrainKids: App-based training of executive functions in children and insights into cognitive activities at home.

Digital tools and applications are now a common part of young children's daily lives. While excessive screen time and media usage may have negative effects on children's development, well designed cognitive apps have the potential to support children's learning. We investigated the effect of a seven-week intensive cognitive training programme on young children's near- and far-transfer skills. We additionally gathered survey data from parents to gain further insights into children's learning, media usage and observed skills at home. Sixty-three children and families participated in the study (A

An Impact of Metacognitive Training and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy on Quality of Life in Psychosis: A Systematic Review.

Although metacognitive training (MCT) and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) have been proven to be effective interventions for the treatment of symptoms of schizophrenia, still little is known about the effects on quality of life (QoL). This systematic review compares the effectiveness of MCT and CBT-based interventions for QoL in individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSD). Three electronic databases were screened up to October 2025 for MCT and CBT studies reporting QoL outcomes for patients diagnosed with SSD. Data from 38 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) met the inclusion c

The Value of a Virtual Assistant to Improve Engagement in Computerized Cognitive Training at Home: Exploratory Study.

BACKGROUND: Impaired cognitive function is observed in many pathologies, including neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer disease. At present, the pharmaceutical treatments available to counter cognitive decline have only modest effects, with significant side effects. A nonpharmacological treatment that has received considerable attention is computerized cognitive training (CCT), which aims to maintain or improve cognitive functioning through repeated practice in standardized exercises. CCT allows for more regular and thorough training of cognitive functions directly at home, which repre

Cognitive Training as a Potential Activator of Hippocampal Neurogenesis in the Rat Model of Sporadic Alzheimer's Disease.

There is a growing body of evidence that interventions like cognitive training or exercises prior to the manifestation of Alzheimer's disease (AD) symptoms may decelerate cognitive decline. Nonetheless, evidence of prevention or a delay of dementia is still insufficient. Using OXYS rats as a suitable model of sporadic AD and Wistar rats as a control, we examined effects of cognitive training in the Morris water maze on neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus in presymptomatic (young rats) and symptomatic (adult rats) periods of development of AD signs. Four weeks after the cognitive training, we imm

Computerised cognitive training in Parkinson's disease: a protocol for a systematic review and updated meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Cognitive impairment is recognised as an important non-motor symptom in Parkinson's disease (PD) and there is a need for evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions that may prevent or slow cognitive decline in this patient group. One such intervention is computerised cognitive training (CCT), which has shown efficacious for cognition across older adult populations. This systematic review aims to investigate the efficacy of CCT across cognitive, psychosocial and functional domains for people with PD and examine study and intervention design factors that could moderate CCT ef

Effects of computerized cognitive training as add-on treatment to stimulants in ADHD: a pilot fMRI study.

The neurofunctional effects of Cognitive training (CT) are poorly understood. Our main objective was to assess fMRI brain activation patterns in children with ADHD who received CT as an add-on treatment to stimulant medication. We included twenty children with ADHD from a clinical trial of stimulant medication and CT (10 in medication + CT and 10 in medication + non-active training). Between-group differences were assessed in performance and in brain activation during 3 fMRI paradigms of working memory (N-back: 0-back, 1-back, 2-back, 3-back), sustained attention (Sustained Attention Task - SA

Effects of cognitive control training on the dynamics of (mal)adaptive emotion regulation in daily life.

Cognitive control plays a key role in both adaptive emotion regulation, such as positive reappraisal, and maladaptive emotion regulation, such as rumination, with both strategies playing a major role in resilience and well-being. As a result, cognitive control training (CCT) targeting working memory functioning may have the potential to reduce maladaptive emotion regulation and increase adaptive emotion regulation. The current study explored the effects of CCT on positive reappraisal ability in a lab context, and deployment and efficacy of positive appraisal and rumination in daily life. A sam

Dual-task training on a treadmill to improve gait and cognitive function in elderly idiopathic fallers.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Daily activities require the ability to dual task (DT), utilizing cognitive resources while walking to negotiate complex environmental conditions. For older adults, these additional cognitive demands often lead to reduced gait quality that increases the risk of falls. The aim of this study was to assess whether a combined intervention, consisting of treadmill training (TT) while performing DT, improves cognitive and motor performance in older adults with a history of multiple falls. METHODS: A repeated measures design was used to evaluate the effects of training in 10

Cognitive Predictors of Responsiveness to Reactive Step Training in People with Parkinson's Disease at Fall-Risk.

Reactive stepping can be improved in people with Parkinson's Disease (PwPD). However, there is variability in the responsiveness to such training. This study examined if cognition could predict the responsiveness of PwPD to a two-week reactive step training intervention. 25 PwPD (70.52 years ± 7.15; Hoehn & Yahr range 1-3) at risk for falls completed a multiple baseline, open-label, uncontrolled pre-post intervention study. Reactive stepping was trained through a two-week (six-session) intervention with repeated support surface translations. Stepping performance was measured at two baseline as

A Comparison of the Effects of Short-Term Physical and Combined Multi-Modal Training on Cognitive Functions.

Physical training has beneficial effects not only on physical fitness, but also on cognitive functions. The most effective way to improve cognitive functions via physical training as well as the degree to which training effects transfer to untrained cognitive functions is still unclear, however. Here, we investigated the effects of adaptive and multi-modal short-term training interventions on cognitive training gains and transfer effects. Over a period of 12 weeks, 102 employees of a car manufacturing company (age range 20 to 61 years) received trainer-guided exercises, consisting of either tw
