OBJECTIVE: To assess the effectiveness of combined drug treatment on megacolon complicated by severe constipation.

Nine patients with stage III and stage IV thymoma were treated with cisplatin, vincristine, lomustine, cyclophosphamide and prednisolone. Two patients (22%) obtained remission, and four patients (44%) showed no change for 11 to 31 months. It was found that this five-drug regimen did not improve the results obtained by other chemotherapy modalities for thymoma.

Blood samples from 425 suspected drugged drivers who were clinically impaired and negative for alcohol were analysed. Fifty-six percent of the samples were positive for tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Tetrahydrocannabinol-positive blood samples were analysed for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cocaine metabolites and opiates. In 39 selected patients with open-angle glaucoma, in whom pressure regulation with Timolol alone was inadequate, success was achieved by using this drug in combination with various other glaucoma drugs over treatment periods of 12 to 18 months. In all cases, Timolol had had a significant, thought inadequate pressure-lowering effect; only by adding either 0.5%-2% pilocarpine. 0.75-2.25% carbachol, 2% aceclidine, 0.1% epinephrine or 250 mg of acetazolamide could IOP be lowered effectively to an acceptable level.

For the treatment of 42 patients with different forms of atherosclerotic and postencephalitic parkinsonism the author used levopa drugs, medantane, cyclodol and parkopan in combination and separately. The most stable improvement was obtained from a combination of levopa with cyclodol in patient with rigid-akynetic-trembling manifestations of parkinsonism.
