Genetic Diversity and Characterization of Plant Growth-Promoting Effects of Bacteria Isolated from Rhizospheric Soils.

Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) have the potential to make a significant contribution to the development of sustainable agricultural systems. Generally, PGPRs function in three different ways, summarized as the synthesis of certain compounds for plants, facilitating the uptake of certain nutrients from the soil and protecting plants from diseases. This study aims to isolate plant growth-promoting bacteria from different plant rhizospheres from Ankara province, to reveal their genetic diversity, and to determine their plant growth-promoting properties. The identification of the 69 i

Beyond Archaea: The Table Salt Bacteriome.

Commercial table salt is a condiment with food preservative properties by decreasing water activity and increasing osmotic pressure. Salt is also a source of halophilic bacteria and archaea. In the present research, the diversity of halotolerant and halophilic microorganisms was studied in six commercial table salts by culture-dependent and culture-independent techniques. Three table salts were obtained from marine origins: Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean (Ibiza Island), and Odiel marshes (supermarket marine salt). Other salts supplemented with mineral and nutritional ingredients were also used:

Characterization of the blood and neutrophil-specific microbiomes and exploration of potential bacterial biomarkers for sepsis in surgical patients.

INTRODUCTION: Recent studies have demonstrated the presence of a circulating microbiome in the blood of healthy subjects and chronic inflammatory patients. However, our knowledge regarding the blood microbiome and its potential roles in surgical patients remains very limited. The objective of this study was to determine the blood microbial landscape in surgical patients and to explore its potential associations with postoperative sepsis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 2825 patients who underwent surgical treatments were screened for enrollment and 204 cases were recruited in this study. The patients

Expression analysis of taste receptor genes (T1R1, T1R3, and T2R4) in response to bacterial, viral and parasitic infection in rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss.

Emerging evidence suggests that bitter and sweet Taste receptors (TRs) in the airway are important sentinels of innate immunity. TRs are G protein-coupled receptors that trigger downstream signaling cascades in response to activation of specific ligands. Among them, the T1R family consists of three genes: T1R1, T1R2, and T1R3, which function as heterodimers for sweet tastants and umami tastants. While the other TRs family components T2Rs function as bitter tastants. To understand the relationship between TRs and mucosal immunity in teleost, here, we firstly identified and analyzed the molecula

Distinct rhizobacterial functional assemblies assist two Sedum alfredii ecotypes to adopt different survival strategies under lead stress.

Lead (Pb) contamination presents a widespread environmental plague. Sedum alfredii is widely used for soil phytoremediation owing to its capacity to extract heavy metals, such as Pb. Although efficient Pb extraction is mediated by complex interactions between the roots and rhizospheric bacteria, the mechanism by which S. alfredii recruits microorganisms under Pb stress remains unclear. The Pb-accumulating ecotype (AE) and non-accumulating ecotype (NAE) of S. alfredii recruited different rhizobacterial communities. Under Pb stress, AE rhizosphere-enriched bacteria assembled into stable-connecte

Proteoglycans and chondroitin sulfates from human multiple chondroma (enchondromatosis).

1. This paper reports the structural analysis of proteoglycans and mucopolysaccharides extracted from a human multiple enchondroma (enchondromatosis), a benign cartilage tumor, where growth, but no calcification takes place. The tumors were located inside the phalanges of both hands of a 22-year-old patient and were obtained after surgery. 2. The proteoglycans of chondromas contain only a small amount of keratan sulfate (1.3% of total mucopolysaccharide) and the chondroitin sulfate is composed of 4- and 6-sulfated disaccharide units in approximately equivalent amounts, forming hybrid polymeric

Structure and regulation of the NK-lysin (1-4) and NK-lysin like (a and b) antimicrobial genes in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).

Nk-lysin (Nkl), an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) product of natural killer cells and cytotoxic T cells in mammals, has recently been characterized in a number of finfish species. In this study, we identified six genes with sequence homology to Nkl and characterized their patterns of mRNA expression and abundances in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss). The cDNA sequences for the six Nkls encoded precursor peptides of 128-133 aa in length, and mature peptides of 109-111 aa in length. Genomic DNA of the nkl1-4 genes consisted of five exons and four introns, whereas the nkl-like a & b genes consist

Enhancement of growth, intestinal microbiota, and innate immune protection against Vibrio alginolyticus in white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) following dietary administration with Bacillus safensis NPUST1.

Spore-forming Bacillus probiotics have attracted increasing interest as antibiotic-free functional feed additives in shrimp aquaculture. However, evidence for the probiotic potential of Bacillus safensis remains limited. This study evaluated the effects of dietary B. safensis NPUST1 on growth performance, innate immunity, intestinal microbiota, and resistance to Vibrio alginolyticus in white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei). Shrimp were fed a basal diet (control) or diets supplemented with NPUST1 at 105 (E-5), 106 (E-6), or 107 CFU g-1 (E-7) for 8 weeks. Disc diffusion assays showed measurable inhibi

Environmental DNA/RNA for non-invasive early detection and monitoring of pathogen dynamics in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS).

Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS) provide efficient fish production with reduced water use and precise environmental control. However, their closed design facilitates susceptibility to pathogen persistence and disease outbreaks, highlighting the need for effective monitoring and treatments. Over a 12-week study, water samples (purified eDNA/eRNA) were evaluated in two freshwater RAS units at a commercial pre-smolt Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) farm as a non-lethal and non-invasive alternative to tissue samples for early pathogen detection. A key aim was furthermore to elucidate the infec

Multi-phase fate and removal mechanism of acetamiprid in a planted coastal wetland mesocosm system: A 'dual-engine' perspective.

Acetamiprid (ACE), a widely used neonicotinoid insecticide, poses persistent ecological risks to coastal ecosystems. However, its multi-media transformation pathways and the underlying biological drivers in coastal wetlands remain poorly understood. Here, using high resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) based non-target screening integrated with Partial Least Squares Path Modeling (PLS-PM), we systematically investigated the ACE migration, biotransformation, and removal mechanisms in a mesocosm wetland system planted with three salt-tolerant hydrophytes: Phragmites australis (PA), Iris pseudacor

Bacillus spizizenii DN and microbial consortia biostimulation followed by gamma irradiation for efficient textile wastewater treatment.

Textile wastewater still poses a huge environmental problem due to its high water consumption and high effluent release that is full of toxic chemicals. In the present study, different approaches were studied to layout an operating procedure for textile wastewater treatment in order to obtain treated wastewater that is safe for non-potable uses. Our approach depended on (1) co-substrate to biostimulate indigenous microbial textile wastewater community by adding Tryptone Soy Broth (TSB) and TSB supplemented with 1% glucose, (2) co-culture (bioaugmentation) with Bacillus spizizenii DN cells (pre

Microbiome and Culture Based Analysis of Chronic Rhinosinusitis Compared to Healthy Sinus Mucosa.

The role of bacteria in chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) is still not well understood. Whole microbiome analysis adds new aspects to our current understanding that is mainly based on isolated bacteria. It is still unclear how the results of microbiome analysis and the classical culture based approaches interrelate. To address this, middle meatus swabs and tissue samples were obtained during sinus surgery in 5 patients with CRS with nasal polyps (CRSwNP), 5 patients with diffuse CRS without nasal polyps (CRSsNP), 5 patients with unilateral purulent maxillary CRS (upm CRS) and 3 patients with health

RNA-seq analysis of mucosal immune responses reveals signatures of intestinal barrier disruption and pathogen entry following Edwardsiella ictaluri infection in channel catfish, Ictalurus punctatus.

The mucosal surfaces of fish (gill, skin, gastrointestinal tract) are important sites of bacterial exposure and host defense mechanisms. In mammalian systems, the intestinal epithelium is well characterized as both a selectively permeable barrier regulated by junctional proteins and as a primary site of infection for a number of enteric pathogens including viruses, bacteria, and parasites. The causative bacterium of enteric septicemia of catfish, Edwardsiella ictaluri, is believed to gain entry through the intestinal epithelium, with previous research using a rat intestinal epithelial cell lin

Distribution of biosurfactant-producing bacteria in undisturbed and contaminated arid Southwestern soils.

Biosurfactants are a unique class of compounds that have been shown to have a variety of potential applications in the remediation of organic- and metal-contaminated sites, in the enhanced transport of bacteria, in enhanced oil recovery, as cosmetic additives, and in biological control. However, little is known about the distribution of biosurfactant-producing bacteria in the environment. The goal of this study was to determine how common culturable surfactant-producing bacteria are in undisturbed and contaminated sites. A series of 20 contaminated (i.e., with metals and/or hydrocarbons) and u

Total nutrient admixtures appear safer than lipid emulsion alone as regards microbial contamination: growth properties of microbial pathogens at room temperature.

BACKGROUND: The extraordinary growth properties of most microorganisms in 10% and 20% lipid emulsions has led to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendation that if lipids are given through an i.v. line, the administration set should be replaced every 24 hours rather than the usual 72-hour interval used for crystalloid solutions, including those used for conventional total parenteral nutrition. For nearly 15 years, parenteral alimentation has been given as a total nutrient admixture (TNA), with the glucose, amino acids, and lipid mixed within the same bag and infused continuo

Anatomical site and environmental exposure differentially shape the microbiota across mucosal tissues in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss).

This study investigates the diversity, structure, and composition of the fish microbiota across different mucosal organs by comparing the bacterial communities in the oropharyngeal cavity, posterior intestine, gills, and skin of farmed rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss), along with water and biofilm samples from the surrounding environment. Four distinct skin regions across the dorsal-ventral and anterior-posterior axes were also compared in fish weighing 390.5 ± 36.8 g. Sample analyses showed that lower values of richness (observed) and diversity (Shannon and Faith indices) were observed in

Peritoneal fluid microbiota profile of patients with deep endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease that affects 10 % of reproductive-aged women and characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. The disease is linked to a pro-inflammatory environment in the peritoneal fluid of patients, with high levels of cytokines, growth factors, and reactive oxygen species. Changes in the peritoneal fluid, such as altered immune cells and cytokines, can be linked to the immune balance in endometriosis. Immunological changes may be related to the presence of microorganisms in the peritoneal fluid that can activate Toll-like recepto

Evolutionary relationships of flavobacterial and enterobacterial endosymbionts with their scale insect hosts (Hemiptera: Coccoidea).

Flavobacteria and Enterobacteriaceae have been previously reported as scale insect endosymbionts. The purpose of this work was twofold: first, to screen different scale insect families for the presence of these endosymbionts by PCR analyses and second, to elucidate the history of cophylogeny between these bacteria and the insects by analysing a portion of 16S rRNA and 18S rRNA gene sequences by two reconciliation tools, CoRe-PA and Jane. From a survey of 27 scale insects within seven families, we identified Flavobacteria and Enterobacteriaceae as coexisting in ten species that belong to the Or
