Ginsenoside Rg3 Protects against Diabetic Cardiomyopathy and Promotes Adiponectin Signaling via Activation of PPAR-γ.

Ginsenoside Rg3 extracted from Panax notoginseng has therapeutic effects on diabetes and heart diseases. However, the underlying mechanism of ginsenoside Rg3 on diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM) remains unclear. 24-week-old diabetic db/db mice were treated with ginsenoside Rg3 for 12 weeks, then body weight, serum lipids, adiponectin levels, as well as cardiac function and pathological morphology, were measured. The targets of ginsenoside Rg3 and its regulation of the adiponectin pathway were also evaluated on 3T3-L1 or H9c2 cells. Ginsenoside Rg3 directly bound to PPAR-γ, improving adiponectin se

Therapeutic potential of ginsenoside compound K in managing tenocyte apoptosis and extracellular matrix damage in diabetic tendinopathy.

The prevalence of tendinopathy in patients with diabetes is well documented. Despite efforts to improve diabetes management, there is a lack of research on therapeutic agents targeting the core features of tendinopathy, namely, tenocyte apoptosis and extracellular matrix (ECM) damage. In this study, we investigated the potential of ginsenoside compound K (CK), known for its antidiabetic properties, to mitigate tenocyte apoptosis, inflammation, oxidative stress, and the metalloproteinase (MMP) system under hyperglycemic conditions. Our research also aimed to unravel the molecular mechanism unde

Ginsenoside Rg3 restores hepatitis C virus-induced aberrant mitochondrial dynamics and inhibits virus propagation.

UNLABELLED: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) alters mitochondrial dynamics associated with persistent viral infection and suppression of innate immunity. Mitochondrial dysfunction is also a pathologic feature of direct-acting antiviral (DAA) treatment. Despite the high efficacy of DAAs, their use in treating patients with chronic hepatitis C in interferon-sparing regimens occasionally produces undesirable side effects such as fatigue, migraine, and other conditions, which may be linked to mitochondrial dysfunction. Here, we show that clinically prescribed DAAs, including sofosbuvir, affect mitochondria

Protective effects of ginsenoside Rg1 against oxygen-glucose-deprivation-induced apoptosis in neural stem cells.

Oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) causes neural damages through stroke-induced ischemia. Neural stem cells (NSCs) have been shown to alleviate ischemia-induced neural damages. However, ischemia reduces NSC survival. Ginsenoside Rg1 exerts anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects, and repairs brain injury-related neural damages. We aimed to investigate whether ginsenoside Rg1 could prevent NSCs from OGD insult. Using multiple techniques, we explored neuroprotective effects of ginsenoside Rg1 on OGD-insulted NSCs. 6h treatment of OGD most significantly decreased NSC viability, and 10-20μM gin

Ginsenoside Rd attenuates Aβ25-35-induced oxidative stress and apoptosis in primary cultured hippocampal neurons.

One of the most common pathological changes in Alzheimer's disease (AD) brain is the large number of amyloid β (Aβ) peptides accumulating in lesion areas. Ginsenosides are the most active components extracted from ginseng. Ginsenoside Rd (GRd) is a newly discovered saponin that has a stronger pharmacological activity than other ginsenosides, especially in neuroprotection. Here we examined the neuroprotective effects of GRd against neuronal insults induced by Aβ25-35 in primary cultured hippocampal neurons. A 10μM GRd treatment significantly prevented the loss of hippocampal neurons induced by

Ginsenoside Rd Protects SH-SY5Y Cells against 1-Methyl-4-phenylpyridinium Induced Injury.

Ginsenoside Rd (GSRd), one of the main active monomer compounds from the medical plant Panax ginseng, has been shown to promote neuronal survival in models of ischemic cerebral damage. As an extending study, here we examined whether GSRd could exert a beneficial effect in an experimental Parkinson disease (PD) model in vitro, in which SH-SY5Y cells were injured by 1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium (MPP+), an active metabolic product of the classical Parkinsonian toxin1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP). Our results, from the addition of different concentrations of GSRd (1, 10 and 50

Modulation of T-Bet and GATA-3 expression in experimental autoimmune thyroiditis rats through ginsenoside treatment.

Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is one of the most common organ-specific autoimmune diseases. Increasing evidence indicates that HT may be characterized by an imbalance in the helper T cell subsets Th1 and Th2. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) considers HT as a chronic exhaustion disease, leading to deficiency of qi. In TCM, qi indicates the functional power of the organs of the human body; hence TCM recommends focusing the treatment of HT so as to increase qi production. Ginseng is a well-known herbal medicine exhibiting a variety of efficacies, its main function-being to generate qi. Ginseng'

Combined Salvianolic Acid B and Ginsenoside Rg1 Exerts Cardioprotection against Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury in Rats.

Lack of pharmacological strategies in clinics restricts the patient prognosis with myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. The aim of this study was to evaluate the cardioprotection of combined salvianolic acid B (SalB) and ginsenoside Rg1 (Rg1) against myocardial I/R injury and further investigate the underlying mechanism. I/R injury was induced by coronary artery ligation for Wistar male rats and hypoxia/reoxygenation injury was induced on H9c2 cells. Firstly, the best ratio between SalB and Rg1was set as 2:5 based on their effects on heart function detected by hemodynamic measurement.

Ginsenoside Rbeta1 reduces neurologic damage, is anti-apoptotic, and down-regulates p53 and BAX in subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Stroke is the second leading cause of death worldwide and the number one cause of adult disability in the United States and Europe. A subtype of stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), accounts for 7% of all strokes each year and claims one of the highest mortalities and morbidities. Many therapeutic interventions have been used to treat brain injury following SAH but none have reached the level of effectiveness needed to clinically reduce mortality. Ginsenoside Rb1 (GRb1), a major component of the Chinese traditional medicine Panax Ginseng, has been shown to reduce ischemic brain injury and my

Ginsenoside Re attenuates ferroptosis induced by hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury via the BAP1/SLC7A11 axis.

Hepatic ischemia-reperfusion injury (HIRI) is a complex clinical complication involving inflammation and multiple forms of regulated cell death, among which ferroptosis plays a critical role. Ginsenoside Re (Re) exhibits prominent antioxidant capabilities, but its exact molecular targets in HIRI are unidentified. Here, using in vivo HIRI and in vitro hypoxia/reoxygenation (H/R) models, we found that Re administration exhibited an optimal therapeutic window, significantly alleviating hepatocellular damage, inflammatory responses, and oxidative stress. Sequentially, Re suppressed ferroptosis, as
