aHSCs-targeted bimetallic nanozymes and luteolin-loaded liposomes: Synergistic reversal of liver fibrosis via antioxidant, cellular senescence, and cellular apoptotic mechanisms.

Liver fibrosis is a prevalent pathological process in the development of a range of chronic liver diseases. Hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) are known to be highly activated in the Liver fbrosis environment, and the proliferation of activated HSCs (aHSCs) and the secretion of associated extracellular matrix are crucial in the process of Liver fibrosis, which in turn promotes the development of Liver fibrosis. Concurrently, the inhibition of HSCs activation and the induction of aHSCs senescence/apoptosis have been identified as a therapeutic strategy that exhibits numerous synergistic mechanisms.

Protection against Alzheimer's disease by luteolin: Role of brain glucose regulation, anti-inflammatory activity, and the gut microbiota-liver-brain axis.

Luteolin is a widely distributed flavone herbs and vegetables. It has anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities and improves glucose metabolism by potentiating insulin sensitivity and improving β-cell function and mass. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is induced by the deposition of amyloid-beta (Aβ) in the hippocampus and the formation of neurotoxic Aβ plaques. The Aβ deposition is associated with increased formation of Aβ from amyloid precursor protein by up-regulation of β-secretase and β-site amyloid precursor protein-cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1). Furthermore, Aβ accumulation is increased by bra

Luteolin-mediated Kv1.3 K+ channel inhibition augments BCG vaccine efficacy against tuberculosis by promoting central memory T cell responses in mice.

Despite the availability of multiple antibiotics, tuberculosis (TB) remains a major health problem worldwide, with one third of the population latently infected and ~2 million deaths annually. The only available vaccine for TB, Bacillus Calmette Guérin (BCG), is ineffective against adult pulmonary TB. Therefore, alternate strategies that enhance vaccine efficacy are urgently needed. Vaccine efficacy and long-term immune memory are critically dependent on central memory T (TCM) cells, whereas effector memory T (TEM) cells are important for clearing acute infections. Recently, it has been shown

Luteolin improves myocardial cell glucolipid metabolism by inhibiting hypoxia inducible factor-1α expression in angiotensin II/hypoxia-induced hypertrophic H9c2 cells.

Luteolin, a natural flavonoid, can attenuate hepatic lipid accumulation and insulin resistance in obese mice. Therefore, we hypothesized that luteolin may also improve the abnormal glucolipid metabolism of hypertrophic myocardial cells. This study aimed to investigate the effect and possible molecular mechanisms of luteolin. Hypertrophic H9c2 cells were induced by angiotensin II/hypoxia and simultaneously treated with 2 to 8 μg/mL luteolin for 24 h. Luteolin might dose-dependently decrease intracellular total protein, atrial natriuretic peptide, and free fatty acid levels, and increase superna

Evaluation of Diabetes Effects of Selenium Nanoparticles Synthesized from a Mixture of Luteolin and Diosmin on Streptozotocin-Induced Type 2 Diabetes in Mice.

The absence of a treatment efficient in the control of type 2 diabetes mellitus requires more functional products to assist treatment. Luteolin (LU) and diosmin (DIO) have been known as bioactive molecules with potential for the treatment of diabetes. This work aimed to establish the role that a combination of LU and DIO in selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) played in streptozotocin (STZ)- induced diabetes mice. Green synthesis of Se NPs was performed by mixing luteolin and diosmin with the solution of Na2SeO3 under continuous stirring conditions resulting in the flavonoids conjugated with SeNPs.

The immune response is essential in the protection of our body against pathogens; however, the inflammatory response caused by the immune system can become a disease itself. In fact, anti-inflammatory and immune-suppressive drugs are applied to limit the immune response to treat inflammatory diseases. Flavonoids are plant-derived polyphenols extensively investigated for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in inflammatory diseases. Studies applying isolated compounds as well as using supplements as nutraceuticals based on flavonoids have been conducted. Our review systematically

Fabrication and Characterization of Gelatin-Finger Citron Polysaccharide Nanoparticles for Enhanced Solubility and Bioavailability of Luteolin in Treating Acute Alcoholic Liver Disease.

Luteolin (Lut) is a natural flavonoid that has been widely used in the treatment of liver and glycolipid metabolic diseases. However, poor water solubility and bioavailability limit its efficacy and application. To overcome these challenges, a protein-polysaccharide composite nanoparticle (L-GF NPs) for Lut delivery was prepared by a self-assembly method based on amphiphilic gelatin and active finger citron polysaccharide (FCP). The L-GF NPs were approximately spherical in shape and were formed by hydrogen bonding, electrostatic interaction, and hydrophobic interaction. Lut was encapsulated in
