Long-term outcomes of CAD/CAM monocompartmental condyle prosthesis supporting bone transplant after mandible resection.

Condylar reconstruction and replacement with alloplastic materials have gained increasing surgical interest due to their critical role in restoring mandibular function. This study aimed to evaluate clinical outcomes and long-term complications in patients undergoing computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) condylar reconstruction following mandibular resection-disarticulation. Twenty patients were treated for benign or malignant mandibular tumors involving the condylar region. In all cases, the articular meniscus was preserved, and reconstruction was performed using a CAD/C

A classification system for conditions causing condylar hyperplasia.

A classification system was developed to place patients with condylar hyperplasia (CH) into categories based on histology, clinical and imaging characteristics, effects on the jaws and facial structures, and rate of occurrence. Four major categories were defined. CH type 1 is an accelerated and prolonged growth aberration of the "normal" mandibular condylar growth mechanism, causing a predominantly horizontal growth vector, resulting in prognathism that can occur bilaterally (CH type 1A) or unilaterally (CH type 1B). CH type 2 refers to enlargement of the mandibular condyle caused by an osteoc

Osteochondroma of the condyle: case report with 15 years of follow-up.

Osteochondromas (OC) in the craniofacial region are very rare. Following on from a literature review published in 2011, further single case reports and case series are reviewed herein. To date, approximately 235 studies on OC of the mandibular condyle have been published in the English language literature. There is debate regarding the surgical techniques for treatment. Whereas the use of condylectomy has shown no recurrences, follow-up of conservative excision of the tumour has shown recurrence in three cases. One of these relates to the case presented here, which was first reported in 2002.

Breast adenocarcinoma mimicking temporomandibular disorders: a case report.

AIM: The aim of this report is to present a case of a metastatic lesion in the mandible originating from a breast adenocarcinoma that was initially diagnosed as temporomandibular disorder (TMD). The role of the dental practitioner in the diagnostic phases is also discussed. BACKGROUND: It is not uncommon to see a patient who complains of what seems to be a TMD but who in reality suffers from a systematic disease, dental infection, or neoplasia. Although metastases to the head and neck are uncommon, it should always be considered among the differential diagnoses of lesions. REPORT: A 42-year-

A Retrospective Evaluation of Oral Lymphoma in 75 Dogs (2019-2022): Clinical and Histopathological Features.

Canine oral lymphoma is an uncommon neoplasm that mimics inflammatory or immune-mediated oral diseases as well as other round-cell tumors, complicating diagnosis and potentially delaying treatment. The objective of this study was to describe the clinical presentation, behavior, and outcomes of canines diagnosed with oral lymphoma, including epitheliotropic and nonepitheliotropic forms of the disease. A retrospective review of 75 cases diagnosed between 2019 and 2022 was performed, evaluating histologic categorization, lesion characteristics (solitary vs multifocal, anatomic location, and descr

Management considerations of ameloblastic carcinoma in soft-tissue: case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Ameloblastoma is a benign yet locally aggressive odontogenic neoplasm characterized by a significant propensity for local recurrence. Soft-tissue recurrence following mandibular resection and reconstruction represents a distinct clinical entity, often posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. In contrast, ameloblastic carcinoma may arise de novo or through malignant transformation of a pre-existing ameloblastoma, reflecting a spectrum of biological behaviour. We report a case of post-resection soft-tissue recurrence with subsequent malignant transformation, underscoring the unp

Giant osteoid osteoma of mandible in a 24-year-old female: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Osteoid osteoma is a benign osteoblastic neoplasm characterized by the production of osteoid and immature bone within a highly vascularized, osteogenic connective tissue stroma. This lesion predominantly occurs in individuals during their second and third decades of life, with a male-to-female predilection ratio of 2:1 to 3:1. This report presents an uncommon case of a giant osteoid osteoma involving the mandibular ramus managed via complete intraoral surgical excision. CASE PRESENTATION: A 24-year-old female of Persian ethnicity presented with a 12-month history of a slowly progr

Solitary Intraosseous Myofibroma of the Mandible in a Nine-Year-Old Child: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Myofibroma (MF) is a benign neoplasm derived from myofibroblasts. While they are infrequent, these tumors are predominantly found in the pediatric group and seldom manifest as intraosseous mandibular tumors. Herein, we present a 9-year-old female with a radiolucent lesion in the left mandible associated with malposed left lower canine and 1st premolar teeth. Clinical examination revealed a slightly tender 5×4 cm firm mass resulting in an expansion of the buccal and lingual aspects of the mandible in the canine and first premolar region. An incisional biopsy revealed a benign tumor consisting o

Odontogenic myxoma--a case series and review of the surgical management.

BACKGROUND: Odontogenic myxomas (OMs) are considered to be a benign odontogenic tumour with locally aggressive behaviour. Since these neoplasms are rare in the oral cavity, the possible surgical management can be quite variable. Literature recommendation can vary from simple curettage and peripheral ostectomy up to segmental resection. CASE REPORTS: In the present article, a series of three new cases are presented and discussed. The first case is a 43-year-old male presented with a relatively large OM in the left maxillary area. The second case is a 37-year-old female presented with a relativ

Ameloblastic fibrodentinoma presenting as a false gingival enlargement in the maxillary anterior region.

Ameloblastic fibrodentinoma is a rare benign mixed odontogenic neoplasm usually occurring in the first two decades of life. It is more common in males and the most common site of occurrence is in the mandibular premolar molar area. This report presents a case of ameloblastic fibrodentinoma in a 12-year-old boy in the maxillary anterior region, a less common site for the occurrence of ameloblastic fibrodentinoma. A 12-year-old boy presented with a midline diastema in 11 and 21 region and a swelling in the palatal aspect of 11 and 12. Intraoral periapical radiograph showed the presence of rarefa
