The Tibet Autonomous Region, the world's highest region, faces high tuberculosis (TB) rates, exacerbated by its unique environment and climate. However, the combined impact of air pollution and meteorological factors exposure on the prevalence of TB remains understudied. Daily data on TB cases, air pollutants (PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NO2, O3, and CO), and meteorological factors (temperature, precipitation, and wind speed) between 2019 and 2023 were collected. Weighted Quantile Sum (WQS) regression and Bayesian Kernel Machine Regression (BKMR) models were employed to assess the combined and individua

This study investigates the relationship between environmental factors, meteorological data and air pollution (PM2.5, PM10, and NO2), and the risk of glaucoma, using a comprehensive approach combining time-series analysis, cohort data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), and Mendelian randomization (MR). Using distributed lag non-linear models (DLNM), the study first analyzed air pollution and temperature data in Shenyang (2013-2021), revealing that ambient temperature did not show significant short-term effects on glaucoma incidence. In contrast, NO2 was significa

A majority of all infectious diseases manifest some climate-sensitivity. However, many of those sensitivities are not well understood as meteorological drivers of infectious diseases co-occur with other drivers exhibiting complex non-linear influences and feedback. This makes it hard to dissect their individual contributions. Here we apply a novel deep learning Explainable AI (XAI) compartment model with covariate drivers and dynamic feedback to predict and explain the dengue incidence across Sri Lanka. We compare the compartmental Susceptible-Exposed-Infected-Recovered (SEIR) model to a deep

BACKGROUND: Seasonal meteorological variations influence the spread of infectious diseases. Wastewater surveillance helps understanding pathogen transmission dynamics, particularly in urban areas of climate-vulnerable countries like Bangladesh.
METHODS: We analysed 54 weeks of wastewater surveillance, clinical surveillance, and meteorological data from Dhaka, Bangladesh. Samples from 11 sites were tested for Vibrio cholerae (V. cholerae), SARS-CoV-2, Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Typhi (S. Typhi), and Group A rotavirus. Diarrhoeal Disease Surveillance data were sourced from

Dicrocoeliasisis caused by the small liver fluke (Dicrocoelium spp.), mainly Dicrocoelium dendriticum in domestic and wild ruminants. The small liver fluke is the probable predisposing cause of economic burden. The impact of geographic and climatic factors on the incidence of dicrocoeliasis has been severely ignored in different geographical areas. Due to the lack of data regarding dicrocoeliasis in Iran, this study was aimed to investigate the prevalence and intensity of ovine and bovine Dicrocoelium infection in the coastal strip south of the Caspian Sea. Fecal samples were obtained from the

Fluctuations in atmospheric temperature, humidity, and air pollution are associated with the incidence of epistaxis. To date, no study in the literature has evaluated the effect of air pollution and meteorologic conditions on the pediatric population. We aimed to evaluate the effect of meteorologic factors and air pollution on the frequency of epistaxis in children. Children presenting to an outpatient clinical setting at a tertiary care hospital during a 5-year period (July 1, 2009, to June 30, 2014) and diagnosed with epistaxis formed the study population. Daily temperature and humidity para

In tropical and subtropical regions of eastern and South-eastern Asia, dengue fever (DF) and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) outbreaks occur frequently. Previous studies indicate an association between meteorological variables and dengue incidence using time series analyses. The impacts of meteorological changes can affect dengue outbreak. However, difficulties in collecting detailed time series data in developing countries have led to common use of monthly data in most previous studies. In addition, time series analyses are often limited to one area because of the difficulty in collecting mete

Mucormycosis is a fairly rare fungal infection caused by ubiquitous fungi of the order Mucorales and primarily affects immunocompromised hosts. A series of 16 cases of invasive mucormycosis admitted to three referral centres in Beirut, Lebanon between 1981 and 1999 is described. It includes 12 patients with rhinocerebral, three with cutaneous, and one with pulmonary infection. Onset of symptoms occurred in the summer and autumn in 15 out of 16 patients, showing a statistically significant seasonal variation (P=0.007) A recent report of 19 patients from Tel Aviv describes a strikingly similar s

Air quality modelling is primarily the quantative approach. It is more difficult as it demands input data accuracy, uncertainties and the efficient methodologies to judge the extent of models accuracy. As a result, model validation has to be regarded as an integral part of the modelling process. Furthermore, models are often validated on a limited number of testcases therefore, appropriate evaluation procedure must be implemented to ensure these models will be applicable for various conditions. The study presented here was carried out to evaluate the WinOSPM (Preliminary version of windows bas

Particulate air pollution, in association with other common urban air pollutants, has been associated with various measured health endpoints, including the incidence and duration of respiratory symptoms, lung function, absence from work or school due to respiratory illness, hospitalization for respiratory disease, and cardiopulmonary disease mortality. In this study, the association between daily mortality and air pollution was assessed in Zurich, Basle, and Geneva (Switzerland) for the time period 1984 through 1989. Various regression modeling techniques were used to estimate the effect of ai

BACKGROUND: Dizziness is a common but nonspecific symptom that frequently leads to emergency department visits and ambulance transports, particularly when symptoms are sudden or severe. Although meteorological conditions affect various acute health outcomes, we still know little of their associations with dizziness-related emergency transports. This study examined the relationship between short-term meteorological conditions and dizziness-related ambulance transports using population-based data.
METHODS: We conducted a retrospective population-based study using emergency transport record data
