Multimodality imaging of cor triatriatum sinister in an octagenerian.

Cor triatriatum sinister (CTS) is a rare congenital cardiac anomaly in which a fibromuscular membrane divides the atrium into two chambers. As CTS can occur as an isolated anomaly, it is frequently associated with other cardiac anomalies. Although symptoms are usually encountered in infancy, CTS may rarely present in adulthood when the membrane contains large fenestration or other escape drainage exists. We herein, present an 82-year-old patient with a typical late diagnosis of asymptomatic CTS.

Multimodality imaging features of hereditary multiple exostoses.

Hereditary multiple exostoses (HME) or diaphyseal aclasis is an inherited disorder characterised by the formation of multiple osteochondromas, which are cartilage-capped osseous outgrowths, and the development of associated osseous deformities. Individuals with HME may be asymptomatic or develop clinical symptoms, which prompt imaging studies. Different modalities ranging from plain radiographs to cross-sectional and nuclear medicine imaging studies can be helpful in the diagnosis and detection of complications in HME, including chondrosarcomatous transformation. We review the role and imaging

Case report: Multimodality imaging of a cystic nephroma.

Cystic nephroma is a rare, benign, cystic neoplasm of the kidney. Its defining features include a discrete, complex cystic mass with multiple thin septations. Cystic nephroma often is confused with many different complex cystic masses of the kidney such as mixed epithelial stromal tumors, Wilms tumors, and cystic renal cell carcinoma. Patients typically do not present with symptoms, and it is often an incidental finding on imaging procedures for other diagnoses. Treatment for cystic nephroma can vary from frequent follow-up to nephrectomy or kidney-sparing surgery.

Imaging of juvenile idiopathic arthritis: a multimodality approach.

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a heterogeneous group of diseases characterized by synovial inflammation and is the most common rheumatic complaint in children. To facilitate research and treatment, JIA has been further classified on the basis of the number of joints involved, additional symptoms, family history, and serologic findings. Imaging in patients with JIA has historically relied on radiography, which allows the accurate assessment of chronic changes of JIA, including growth disturbances, periostitis, and joint malalignment. However, radiographic findings of active inflammation

Multimodality imaging characteristics of dementia with Lewy bodies.

Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) is the second most common cause of neurodegenerative dementia after Alzheimer's disease (AD). Our objective was to determine whether the (11)C-Pittsburgh Compound-B (PiB) retention and regional hypometabolism on positron emission tomography (PET) and regional cortical atrophy on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) are complementary in characterizing patients with DLB and differentiating them from AD. We studied age-, gender-, and education-matched patients with a clinical diagnosis of DLB (n = 21), AD (n = 21), and cognitively normal subjects (n = 42). Hippocampal

Volvulus of the gastrointestinal tract: appearances at multimodality imaging.

Volvulus of the gastrointestinal tract, a clinically relevant cause of acute or recurring abdominal pain in adults, remains a diagnostic dilemma for radiologists in a large number of cases. The clinical symptoms associated with volvulus are often nonspecific and include pain and nausea with vomiting. Yet referring clinicians often rely on radiologists to make the diagnosis; volvulus is rarely diagnosed clinically. Radiography, fluoroscopy, and computed tomography are the imaging methods most often used for this purpose. Prompt diagnosis is critical to avoid life-threatening complications such

Multimodality imaging of pancreatic and biliary congenital anomalies.

A wide spectrum of anomalies of the pancreas, the pancreatic ductal system, and the biliary tree are commonly encountered at radiologic evaluation. These anomalies may simulate various neoplastic, inflammatory, and posttraumatic conditions and should be part of the differential diagnosis for a variety of abnormalities found at diagnostic imaging. Anatomic variants, developmental anomalies (eg, pancreas divisum, annular pancreas, ectopic pancreas, pancreatic agenesis and hypoplasia), and congenital diseases (congenital pancreatic cysts, von Hippel-Lindau disease, choledochal cysts), in addition

Multimodality imaging of paratesticular neoplasms and their rare mimics.

Extratesticular neoplasms are rare but clinically significant lesions that affect patients of all ages. These neoplasms are generally asymptomatic but may have potentially life-threatening sequelae. Lipoma is the most common primary benign paratesticular neoplasm and the most common tumor of the spermatic cord. Adenomatoid tumor is the most common tumor of the epididymis, followed by leiomyoma. In adult patients, it is imperative to consider sarcomas in the differential diagnosis of all solid tumors of the scrotum. The most common sarcomatous tumors in pediatric patients are embryonal sarcoma

Pleural diseases: multimodality imaging and clinical management.

The parietal and visceral pleura are specialized membranes which are highly efficient in keeping the pleural space essentially dry and free of protein and particulate matter. Radiology has played a pivotal role in the understanding of pleural diseases because radiography and, more recently, computed tomography (CT), sonography, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) have allowed in vivo visualization of abnormalities. In addition, these newer modalities have been invaluable in guiding diagnostic and therapeutic measures. Cross-sectional imaging techniques, particularly CT, are frequently of assi

Imaging features of right atrial lipoma on multimodality imaging: A case report.

RATIONALE: Cardiac lipoma is the second most common benign primary cardiac tumor. It can arise in any cardiac chamber and often presents with no or only nonspecific symptoms. Its variable morphology poses a diagnostic challenge. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 53-year-old asymptomatic female patient reported no history of palpitations, chest tightness, or other discomfort, and denied lower extremity edema or limitation of physical activity. During a routine health checkup, transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) revealed a mass at the junction of the superior vena cava and the right atrium. She then present

Multimodality imaging probe for positron emission tomography and fluorescence imaging studies.

Our goal is to develop multimodality imaging agents for use in cell tracking studies by positron emission tomography (PET) and optical imaging (OI). For this purpose, bovine serum albumin (BSA) was complexed with biotin (histologic studies), 5(6)-carboxyfluorescein, succinimidyl ester (FAM SE) (OI studies), and diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) for chelating gallium 68 (PET studies). For synthesis of BSA-biotin-FAM-DTPA, BSA was coupled to (+)-biotin N-hydroxysuccinimide ester (biotin-NHSI). BSA-biotin was treated with DTPA-anhydride and biotin-BSA-DTPA was reacted with FAM. The bioti

Noninvasive multimodal imaging of stem cell transplants in the brain using bioluminescence imaging and magnetic resonance imaging.

Transplantation of stem cells represents a promising approach for the therapy of different brain diseases, including stroke, Parkinson's, and Huntington's disease. Tracking of stem cells with noninvasive imaging technologies provides insight into location, migration, and proliferation of the cells-key features for a possible clinical translation. This chapter describes a multimodal and noninvasive approach employing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and bioluminescence imaging (BLI), both of which offer the opportunity for repetitive measurements on the same individual, revealing the full tempo

Corneal Morphometrics in Congenital Primary Aphakia: A Multimodal Imaging Perspective.

PURPOSE: To characterize in vivo corneal architectural changes in congenital primary aphakia (CPA) using depth-resolved, layer-specific AS-OCT findings with those of age-matched controls. METHODS: This observational study includes 31 eyes of 16 children with clinically diagnosed CPA. High-resolution AS-OCT was used to obtain meridional and lamellar corneal thickness measurements: anterior, central stromal, and posterior layers were quantified across 5 standard locations (central, nasal, temporal, superior, and inferior). Quadrant-wise and layer-wise values were compared within the CPA cohort

GLEAM: A Multimodal Imaging Dataset and HAMM for Glaucoma Classification.

Glaucoma is a leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, with asymptomatic early stages often delaying diagnosis and treatment. Early and accurate diagnosis requires integrating complementary information from multiple ocular imaging modalities. However, most existing studies rely on single- or dual-modality imaging, such as fundus and optical coherence tomography (OCT), for coarse binary classification, thereby restricting the exploitation of complementary information and hindering both early diagnosis and stage-specific treatment. To address these limitations, we propose glaucoma lesi

Role of Multimodal Cardiac Imaging in Pericardial Effusions and Tamponade.

Pericardial effusion represents a common clinical entity encountered across diverse medical settings, with presentations ranging from incidental findings to life-threatening cardiac tamponade. The accurate diagnosis and management of pericardial effusion and its hemodynamically significant sequelae demand a comprehensive multimodality imaging approach. Echocardiography remains the cornerstone of initial evaluation, providing real-time assessment of effusion size, hemodynamic impact, and guidance for therapeutic interventions. This review synthesizes contemporary evidence from major cardiology
