A 54-year-old female patient was referred to the oral surgery department of a public university with a complaint of a dark spot on the palate that had been present for eight months. Clinical examination revealed a well-circumscribed, darkly pigmented macule measuring approximately 1.5 cm × 1 cm located in the posterior hard palate. The lesion's location and size raised suspicion of malignancy. An incisional biopsy was performed, and histopathological analysis showed the presence of spindle cells containing light brown pigmented granules compatible with melanin. The final diagnosis was of blue

Congenital divided melanocytic nevi of the upper and lower eyelid are rare pigmented changes of the eyelids. These processes are also known as "kissing nevi," "panda nevi," and "split ocular nevi," and were first described by Fuchs in 1919. About 120 cases have been described in the literature so far. Congenital melanocytic nevi are either present at birth (small nevi are already found in about 1% of neonates) or manifest predominantly during the first decade of life. These rare melanocytic changes of the eyelids should be controlled regularly, as malignant transformation can occur. The actual

A male patient in his early 20s presented to our outpatient clinic, having previously been misdiagnosed and unsuccessfully treated as a case of viral warts. Dermoscopic and histopathological evaluations revealed characteristic features of the nevus sebaceous. The lesion was eventually treated with an erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser after the patient declined surgical excision. Nevus sebaceous often presents with verrucous surfaces that make misdiagnosis common. A correct diagnosis is crucial due to potential neoplastic transformations. Histopathological analysis is essentia

Nevus is a group of melanocytes that grow together to form a benign growth on the skin. It is often a black lesion that may protrude from the skin. Becker's nevus is a hyperpigmented lesion that presents congenitally or is acquired. The pigmentation and unusually high hair growth might grow darker with time. Becker's nevus, which can interchangeably be called Becker's melanosis, is a rare disease usually presented by men. The following case is of a 21-year-old male who presented with a hyperpigmented lesion on his right arm. The lesion started at age 16 and increased in size gradually; it invo

Becker's nevus (BN) manifests as a hyperpigmented, sometimes hypertrichotic plaque/patch over the chest and shoulder, and it is in the category of benign cutaneous hamartomas. BN has elongation and fusion of the rete ridge, keratotic plugging, sebaceous hyperplasia, smooth muscle hyperplasia, and hyperpigmentation of the basal/suprabasal layer histologically. This article highlights all issues involved in pathogenesis and treatment options of BN. According to current research, postzygotic ACTB mutations induce BN and Becker's nevus syndrome (BNS). Although several therapy strategies were utili

Biological therapies, including anti-TNF agents, are important in the treatment of various chronic inflammatory diseases, including psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory bowel disease. The increased use of these drugs translates into an increasing awareness of its adverse effects, which include malignancy. In this paper, we describe the case of a 28-year-old woman who developed a spitzoid melanocytic tumor after starting infliximab therapy for ulcerative colitis. The evidence for causality between anti-TNF and melanocytic proliferations is still sparse; nonetheless, treatment-associa

Brauer nevus presents as a local circumscribed area of noncicatricial alopecia. It usually involves the frontotemporal scalp. We report an unusual case of Brauer nevus involving the right eyebrow. Trichoscopy helps to confirm the diagnosis and differentiate this condition from other types of nonscarring alopecias. It also helps to avoid unnecessary diagnostic and therapeutic interventions.

Nevus sebaceous of Jadassohn (NSJ) is a cutaneous hamartoma commonly found in the scalp and face and more frequent in children. Clinically, it presents as a yellowish and hairless plaque. In later stages, the NSJ can develop secondary tumors, including skin cancer. We reviewed the ultrasound characteristics of 9 patients (67% female; mean age, 3 years) with NSJ at 18 and 70 MHz. The ultrasound analysis covers the data on the location, thickness, echo structure, and vascularity. The provision of the ultrasound patterns of NSJ can support early diagnosis, avoid unnecessary biopsies, and support

BACKGROUND: Nevus depigmentosus (ND) is an uncommon congenital nonprogressive hypopigmented skin disorder that can be seen anywhere on the body. We considered other depigmenting disorders and focused on distinguishing ND from vitiligo and tuberous sclerosis complex in infancy.
METHODS: The diagnosis of patients with nevus depigmentosus was made differentiating it from nevus anemicus, pityriasis alba, tuberous sclerosis complex, vitiligo and other depigmenting disorders.
RESULTS: Of the 37 individuals with nevus depigmentosus evaluated, 36 were children, twenty-two (59.4%) were males and 15 (

This report describes the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and histopathologic features of oculodermal melanocytosis in a young dog. A 3-year-old male neutered Labrador Retriever presented with conjunctival and scleral hyperpigmentation of the right eye, with concurrent ipsilateral cutaneous hyperpigmentation involving the right side of the face. Initial skin and conjunctival biopsies revealed an accumulation of histologically benign melanocytes within the dermis and conjunctival stroma, respectively. Enucleation was elected 19 months later by the referring veterinarian due to the progression

Nevus depigmentosus (ND), also known as nevus achromicus or achromic nevus, is an uncommon congenital hypomelanosis of the skin that is often characterized as being nonprogressive and having serrated borders. It needs to be distinguished from other hypopigmented skin conditions such as nevus anemicus, hypomelanosis of Ito, Fitzpatrick patches (ash leaf spots) of tuberous sclerosis, vitiligo, indeterminate leprosy, and pigment demarcation lines. Treatment may be desired for aesthetic and possible psychosocial considerations. We review and update knowledge about ND and its simulants.

Blue nevi are benign proliferations of melaninproducingdendritic melanocytes located in thedermis. These nevi tend to occur mostly on the skin, predominantly on the head and neck, dorsal aspectsof the distal extremities, and the sacral area, butcan also occasionally appear on mucosal surfaces.Blue nevi of the nail apparatus are uncommon. Themajority originate in the nail matrix where there is ahigher density of melanocytes. Herein we report ona 47-year-old man with a rare common blue nevus ofthe nail bed, an area with low melanocyte density. Athorough review of the English language literaturefo

A 17-year-old adolescent girl attended our clinic for a scheduled review of her nevus lesions. She complained about a lesion on the posterior region of her neck, which she had noticed approximately 2 years before. Even though it had not caused any symptoms, its appearance had changed according to her parents. The patient's medical history, as well as that of her family's, was unremarkable.

An uncommon type of epidermal nevus characterized by hyperpigmented hyperkeratotic bands following a Blaschko-linear pattern and generalized follicular hyperkeratosis were observed in a 17-year-old male patient who additionally showed tufted hair folliculitis on the scalp and clinodactyly of the fifth finger of both hands. The combination of epidermal nevus with skeletal abnormalities was first described by Gobello et al. [Dermatology 2000;201:51-55] as a new epidermal nevus syndrome that was named after the first author of this work. Our case shows identical clinical and histopathological fea

INTRODUCTION: Halo nevus (HN) is a rare dermatologic entity characterized by a typical whitish rim encircling the existing melanocytic nevus resembling a halo. The clinical picture is suggesting its diagnosis, but so far only several dermoscopic descriptions of halo nevus have existed in the PubMed database.
AIM: To present the clinical and dermoscopic characteristics of halo nevus observed in dermoscopy.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Fifteen patients were diagnosed clinically and dermoscopically with halo nevus during planned routine dermoscopic examinations of all melanocytic lesions in 2007-2013.
