From development to implementation through a RE-AIM lense: lessons learned from a qualitative process evaluation of workplace health promotion workshops in long-term care.

BACKGROUND: Workplace Health Promotion (WHP) in long-term care facilities is essential to support staff wellbeing and sustain workforce capacity, yet implementing such interventions remains challenging. Within the pilot project "Healthy Care Cares for Health", WHP workshops were developed and implemented. To strengthen the feasibility of future WHP projects in long-term care facilities, this study pursued two objectives: first, to present the development and implementation of the workshops to ensure traceability and enable adaptation in future setting-specific WHP projects; second, to derive i

Evaluation of the implementation of the Montreal At Home/Chez Soi project.

BACKGROUND: Homelessness and mental disorders constitute a major problem in Canada. The purpose of the At Home/Chez Soi pilot project was to house and provide supports to marginalised groups. Policymakers are in a better position to nurture new, complex interventions if they know which key factors hinder or enable their implementation. This paper evaluates the implementation process for the Montreal site of this project. METHODS: We collected data from 62 individuals, through individual interviews, focus groups, questionnaires, observations and documentation. The implementation process was an

Railway security checks at the border: between intrusive security technologies and fundamental traveller rights.

European railway borders are facing a particular exposure to security threats and need a delicate balance between securitization and free movement, especially amid globalisation, the current geopolitical landscape and increased migrant flows. For example, the war in Ukraine illustrated the challenges experienced at the Eastern EU borders by the refugee migration surge in early 2022. This exploratory focuses on the European border security control process from the rail border perspective. It encompasses a descriptive synthesis of the lessons learned from the UIC Refugee Task Force as well as in

Developing a Framework for Mental Health Disclosure Decision-Making Among Medical Students: A Qualitative Pilot Study.

PurposeAmerican medical students exhibit higher rates of depression, anxiety, and psychological distress than age-matched members of the general population, yet the majority of students do not seek help for these conditions. A necessary precursor to help-seeking is disclosure, or the sharing of one's diagnosis or symptoms with others. This pilot study aims to explore mental health disclosure decision-making among medical students.DesignSemi-structured qualitative interviews.SettingStudents were interviewed virtually using Zoom.Participants20 students enrolled in nine American undergraduate med

Development of a progressive audiologic tinnitus management program for Veterans with tinnitus.

Tinnitus is the most prevalent service-connected disability awarded to Veterans. However, clinical protocols for management of tinnitus have been inconsistent across Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers. A study was funded to develop and pilot test a protocol to provide tinnitus services consistently across VA audiology clinics. Drawing on a series of prior VA and external research projects, a clinical model was formulated, supporting materials in multimedia were developed, and a pilot study was conducted. Five hierarchical levels of care were defined and labeled the Progressive

Use of Patient Preference Information in Benefit-Risk Assessment, Health Technology Assessment, and Pricing and Reimbursement Decisions: A Systematic Literature Review of Attempts and Initiatives.

Objectives: Inclusion of patient preference (PP) data in decision making has been largely discussed in recent years. Healthcare decision makers-regulatory and health technology assessment (HTA)-are more and more conscious of the need for a patient-centered approach to decide on optimal allocation of scarce money, time, and technological resources. This literature review aims to examine the use of and recommendations for the integration of PP in decision making. Methods: A literature search was conducted through PubMed/Medline in May 2019 to identify publications on PP studies used to inform be

Unsupervised screening for chlamydia and gonorrhoea in backpacker hostels in Manly, Sydney.

Young international backpackers frequently have new sexual partners. We conducted a pilot project of unsupervised screening for chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis) and gonorrhoea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae) by self-collected specimens at two backpacker hostels in Manly, Sydney. The median age was 24 years for men and 23 years for women. A new sexual partner during travel was reported by 94%, of whom only 20% always using condoms. The prevalence of chlamydia was 11.9% (14.3% of 35 men and 10.2% of 49 women). No cases of gonorrhoea were detected. Half of the dispensed testing kits went missing or were

Evaluating the Implementation of Biplane Ultrasound Probes for Guided Peripheral Intravenous Access in the Emergency Department.

Single-plane ultrasound (US) probes are commonly used to initiate ultrasound-guided peripheral intravenous (USGPIV) access for patients with difficult intravenous access (DIVA) in the emergency department (ED), although their use is not yet standardized across all EDs. This pilot project introduced the use of a biplane US probe for USGPIV access at a Level 1 Trauma Center ED. Following the training of 10 registered nurses (RNs) in the application of biplane US probes, the project aimed to decrease reliance on ED providers (e.g., NPs, PAs, and physicians) for USGPIV insertions in DIVA patients,

Using CRISPR/Cas9 to investigate the role of candidate human disease gene orthologs in Ciona.

The tunicate Ciona robusta offers a tractable non-vertebrate chordate model for probing gene function via tissue-specific, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated mutagenesis in F0. Building on Arcadia Science's Zoogle platform, which identifies and ranks orthologs of human genes from various non-traditional model organisms, we carried out a pilot project to probe the developmental roles of three notochord- and endoderm-expressed candidate orthologs of human disease genes ( Fcho , Pgm3 , and Nckap1 ) alongside a fourth gene ( Plastin ) implicated in papilla cell elongation. This preprint compiles and updates a s

Intraorbital pressure-volume characteristics in a piglet model: In vivo pilot study.

Intracranial pressure measurement is frequently used for diagnosis in neurocritical care but cannot always accurately predict neurological deterioration. Intracranial compliance plays a significant role in maintaining cerebral blood flow, cerebral perfusion pressure, and intracranial pressure. This study's objective was to investigate the feasibility of transferring external pressure into the eye orbit in a large-animal model while maintaining a clinically acceptable pressure gradient between intraorbital and external pressures. The experimental system comprised a specifically designed pressur

To Watch Before or Listen While Doing? A Randomized Pilot of Video-Modelling versus Telementored Tube Thoracostomy.

BACKGROUND: New care paradigms are required to enable remote life-saving interventions (RLSIs) in extreme environments such as disaster settings. Informatics may assist through just-in-time expert remote-telementoring (RTM) or video-modelling (VM). Currently, RTM relies on real-time communication that may not be reliable in some locations, especially if communications fail. Neither technique has been extensively developed however, and both may be required to be performed by inexperienced providers to save lives. A pilot comparison was thus conducted. METHODS: Procedure-naïve Search-and-Rescue
