Analysing lower limb motion and muscle activation in athletes with ankle instability during dual-task drop-jump.

This study investigates the impact of chronic ankle instability (CAI) on athletes' lower extremity mechanics during bounce drop-jump landings with divided attention. Thirty Division I physical education voluntarily participated in the study. They performed two sets of bounce drop jumps: one set with a divided attention task and the other without. The obtained data were analysed using a paired t-test to compare the outcomes between the divided attention (DA) and non-divided attention (NDA) tasks. Athletes with CAI, during the DA task, displayed higher vertical landing forces, increased ankle in

Stretch reflex changes in ACL-deficient individuals and healthy controls during normal and surprise landings.

No studies in ACL-D individuals have examined neuromuscular adaptations during landing from a jump where an unexpected mechanical event changes the pre-programmed course of movement. The purpose of this study was to compare pre- and post-landing muscle activation in ACL-D individuals and uninjured controls during normal and surprise landings. Nineteen ACL-D and 17 uninjured volunteered. Participants performed repeated single leg landings from 30 and 15 cm heights. During 15 cm landings, a single surprise landing was performed where participants unexpectedly fell through a false surface at 15 c

Effects of Neuromuscular Training Applied During Ramadan on Physical Fitness and Injury Prevention in Highly-Trained Male Youth Soccer Players.

BACKGROUND: The intermittent fasting period of Ramadan is associated with reductions in training volumes and intensities to maintain physical fitness levels and reduce injury occurrence. Accordingly, it might be beneficial to include neuromuscular training (NMT) applied during Ramadan to avoid detraining and promote injury prevention in soccer players. This study aimed to analyze NMT effects on physical fitness and injury prevention during the Ramadan fasting period in young soccer players. METHODS: Forty young highly-trained male soccer players (U17/U19) were randomly assigned to a NMT (n =

Acute Effects of a Mini-Trampoline Training Session for Improving Normalized Symmetry Index in Participants with Higher Baseline Inter-Limb Asymmetry.

Background: Inter-limb asymmetry has implications for both athletic performance and healthcare practice. High baseline inter-limb asymmetries have been associated with impaired mobility, increased fall risk, and musculoskeletal injuries across the lifespan. Exercise interventions able to stimulate the stretch-shortening cycle (e.g., plyometric training and jump training) have been shown to have a good impact on asymmetries. Among these, Mini-Trampoline Training (MTT) has recently emerged as potentially effective in reducing asymmetries. Objectives: The study aimed to evaluate the acute effects

Unilateral Compound Training Reduces Lower-Limb Strength Asymmetry and Enhances Athletic Performance in Female Handball Players: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Lower-limb strength asymmetries are common in handball players and may negatively influence athletic performance while increasing injury risk. This study examined the effects of a six-week unilateral compound training program on lower-limb strength asymmetry, isokinetic strength, the hamstring-to-quadriceps (H/Q) ratio, body composition, and physical performance in competitive female handball players. Thirty highly trained female handball athletes (age: 18.75 ± 1.91 years) were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n = 14) or a control group (n = 16). The experimental group completed a u

Effects of Cycling Versus Running Training on Sprint and Endurance Capacity in Inline Speed Skating.

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of running versus cycling training on sprint and endurance capacity in inline speed skating. Sixteen elite athletes (8 male, 8 female, 24 ± 8 yrs) were randomly assigned into 2 training groups performing either 2 session per week of treadmill running or ergometer cycling in addition to 3 skating specific sessions (technique, plyometrics, parkour) for 8 weeks. Training intensity was determined within non-specific (cycling or running) and effects on specific endurance capacity within a specific incremental exercise test. Before and after the i

Diet-driven microbiome changes and physical activity in cancer patients.

Exploring the role of the gut microbiome in oncology is gaining more attention, mainly due to its ability to shape the immune system in cancer patients. A well-balanced microbial composition forms a symbiotic relationship with the host organism. Mounting evidence supports the potential of modifiable lifestyle factors, such as diet and physical activity, in restoring intestinal dysbiosis related to cancer development and treatment. In this Minireview, we describe the host-microbiome interplay following different dietary patterns, including a high-fat diet, fiber-rich diet, diet rich in rice and
