Prosthodontic rehabilitation of a patient with total avulsion of the maxilla: a clinical report.

Patients with complete avulsion of the palate may require extensive surgical and prosthodontic rehabilitation. The prosthesis should replace not only missing teeth but also lost soft tissues and bone, including the hard palate, residual alveolar ridges, and in some situations, the soft palate. This clinical report describes the prosthetic rehabilitation, after appropriate surgical options had been exhausted, of a patient with bilateral traumatic avulsion of the maxilla.

Functional and Aesthetic Restoration of Amputated Fingers Using Osseointegrated Dental Implants: Case Presentations.

Traumatic finger amputations significantly impair hand function and aesthetic appearance. Conventional prosthetic options are often limited when the residual stump is inadequate for secure prosthesis retention. Osseointegrated dental implants offer a promising alternative for anchoring custom-made prostheses. This case series presents three patients: Patient 1 was a 23-year-old male with traumatic disarticulation at the proximal interphalangeal joint of the right ring finger; Patient 2 was a 40-year-old male with traumatic amputation of the right index finger at the level of the middle phalanx

Flangeless Denture Technique for Management of Prominent Labial Undercuts in Completely Edentulous Patients: A Case Report.

Completely edentulous patients with a labially inclined premaxilla and deep labial undercuts often present significant challenges during prosthetic rehabilitation, particularly due to excessive lip fullness created by conventional denture flanges. While surgical correction such as alveoloplasty may address the anatomical limitation, many patients decline such procedures due to medical concerns or personal preference. This report describes a noninvasive alternative using a flangeless denture design. A 54-year-old woman presented with chewing difficulty and prominent labial undercuts. Clinical e

Revisions for aseptic loosening in Souter-Strathclyde elbow arthroplasty: incidence of revisions of different components used in 522 consecutive cases.

We present the prosthesis survival of the 7 most commonly used component types of 522 primary Souter elbow replacements performed in the Rheumatism Foundation Hospital during the years 1982-1997. The cohort comprised 370 female and 33 male patients with a mean age of 57 (20-81) years. 119 patients had a bilateral procedure. The indications for operation in all cases were rheumatoid arthritis and other chronic inflammatory joint disease. The mean duration of the disease at the time of operation was 25 (2-70) years. Elbows were often severely destroyed and, in one thiird of the joints, essential

Implant-Assisted Removable Partial Dentures with Surveyed Crowns: A Narrative Review of Treatment Concepts, Material Considerations, and Clinical Outcomes.

Background: Tooth loss remains a major clinical challenge, affecting mastication, speech, facial aesthetics, and oral health-related quality of life. Prosthetic rehabilitation must therefore balance functional demands, biological limitations, patient preferences, maintenance capacity, and cost. Implant-assisted removable partial dentures (IARPDs) have emerged as a practical alternative to conventional removable partial dentures (RPDs) and full-arch fixed implant prostheses, particularly in distal-extension cases where conventional RPDs often demonstrate greater displacement and unfavorable str

Implant supported prosthesis in a patient with progeria: case report.

Prosthodontic rehabilitation can be accomplished with fixed, overdenture, complete, or implant-retained prostheses. Dental treatment overcomes the patient's functional, psychological, esthetic and phonation problems. Remaining healthy teeth may allow the dentist to fabricate a removable partial overdenture, fixed partial prosthesis or implant - supported prosthesis. The retention of a number of abutments helps maintain a positive ridge form with greater height and volume of the alveolar bone, improving masticatory performance, as well as providing a more stable prostheses. Dental patients who

Monitoring and Management of Infection following Prepectoral Implant-based Breast Reconstruction: Retrospective Analysis of Conservative Treatment Versus Implant Removal.

BACKGROUND: Infection following implant-based breast reconstruction (IBBR) represents a major complication, potentially leading to prosthesis removal. However, no clear protocol for its prevention and management exists. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of conservative treatment methods in preventing implant removal and analyze factors responsible for implant loss in the context of prepectoral IBBR. METHODS: A single-institution retrospective review chart of patients undergoing immediate prepectoral IBBR for breast cancer between October 2020 and January 2024 was performed. The inclus

Biomechanical testing of an innovative fixation procedure to stabilize olecranon osteotomy.

UNLABELLED: For the treatment of distal humerus an approach involving olecranon osteotomy is frequently preferred as it offers a clearer view, especially in cases of complex intraarticular fractures. It is however associated with the high risk of osteotomy-related complications such as nonunion, delayed healing, implant failure and migration of wires. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the stability of different new procedures that stabilize olecranon osteotomy compared with conventional tension band wiring. We hypothesize that the new implants provide equivalent stability as the con

Oral rehabilitation considerations for partially edentulous periodontal patients.

Traditional tooth-supported and implant-supported fixed/removable restorations are currently used to replace teeth lost due to periodontal disease. This article reviews the existing literature for oral rehabilitation of partially edentulous periodontal patients with various designs of removable dental prosthesis (RDP), fixed dental prosthesis (FDP) and implant-supported single crown (SC), by addressing their (a) general features, (b) survival and complication rates, along with considerations for treatment planning in periodontal patients, and (c) preference by patients. To answer these issues,
