Evaluation of phosphorus adsorption capacity of sesame straw biochar on aqueous solution: influence of activation methods and pyrolysis temperatures.

The phosphorus (P) adsorption characteristic of sesame straw biochar prepared with different activation agents and pyrolysis temperatures was evaluated. Between 0.109 and 0.300 mg L(-1) in the form of inorganic phosphate was released from raw sesame straw biochar in the first 1 h. The release of phosphate was significantly enhanced from 62.6 to 168.2 mg g(-1) as the pyrolysis temperature increased. Therefore, sesame straw biochar cannot be used as an adsorbent for P removal without change in the physicochemical characteristics. To increase the P adsorption of biochar in aqueous solution, vario

Pyrolysis of rice straw with ammonium dihydrogen phosphate: Properties and gaseous potassium release characteristics during combustion of the products.

The effect of ammonium dihydrogen phosphate (NH4H2PO4) on rice straw (RS) carbonization was evaluated at temperatures of 350-650°C. The carbonized products of RS with NH4H2PO4 show higher solid and energy yields, but lower higher heating values than the carbonized RS at every carbonization temperature. The optimum carbonization operation of RS with NH4H2PO4 which has a higher energy yield at a lower solid volume may be determined between 350 and 450°C, and RS with NH4H2PO4 carbonized at 450°C presents better pore properties than carbonized RS. The carbonized products of RS with NH4H2PO4 all ha

Detection and identification of small-molecule cracking products formed on pyrolysis of cannabidiol part 1: C3 - C10 compounds.

BACKGROUND: Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 naturally occurring phytocannabinoids in Cannabis. While extensive research has evaluated the effects that CBD and other phytocannabinoids have on consumers, less attention has been directed towards studying the health impacts of the compounds formed when cannabinoids are burned. Such an investigation is highly desirable, as smoking remains the most common form of Cannabis consumption. Previous research has investigated the structures of CBD pyrolysis products that are of a molecular mass similar to or greater than CBD. However, studies of the l

Bio-based compounds from synergistic processing of bone waste via advanced ultrasound assisted-enzymatic pretreatment and fast pyrolysis.

This study investigates the synergistic processing of chicken bone waste through a novel combination of advanced ultrasound-assisted enzymatic pretreatment and fast pyrolysis conditions (500-900 °C, ∼100 °C/min). The higher process temperature inhibits CO2, and promotes ≥ C2, CH4, CO and H2. The pyrolysis gas energetic potential reaches a maximum of 33 MJ/Nm3, thus can serve as biofuel. The bio-oil derived from the pyrolysis of feedstock, whether pretreated by classical or enzymatic methods, yields rich in N-heterocycles. At ≥ 700 °C, bio-oil contains more heterocyclic compounds and hydrocarbo

Recycling of e-waste power cables using microwave-induced pyrolysis - process characteristics and facile recovery of copper metal.

This article reports on recycling e-wastes using a VVF power cable as a model through a rapid pyrolytic process following exposure to microwave radiation. This occurred via three possible pathways: (i) discharges at the copper wire on exposure to microwaves, with heat produced causing the thermal decomposition of the covering material - a relationship exists between the length of the copper wire and the wavelength of the microwaves; (ii) microwave heating softened the wire's covering material and ultimately led to its decomposition - in addition, the coating material carbonized by the discharg

GC-FTICR mass spectrometry with dopant assisted atmospheric pressure photoionization: application to the characterization of plastic pyrolysis oil.

Pyrolysis is a promising way to convert plastic waste into valuable resources. However, for downstream upgrading processes, many undesirable species, such as conjugated diolefins or heteroatom-containing compounds, can be generated during this pyrolysis. In-depth chemical characterization is therefore required to improve conversion and valorization. Because of the high molecular diversity found in these samples, advanced analytical instrumentation is needed to provide accurate and complete characterization. Generally, direct infusion Fourier transform mass spectrometry is used to gather inform

Preparation of red mud-based zero-valent iron materials by biomass pyrolysis reduction: Reduction mechanism and application study.

Zero-valent iron (ZVI) materials have been developed and applied to treat various pollutants due to their strong reducing properties and large specific surface area. Red mud contains a large amount of iron oxide and therefore can be used as a source of iron base for the preparation of ZVI materials. Industrial reduction of iron oxides to prepare ZVI materials requires high temperatures resulting in high energy consumption and high costs. Biomass can be pyrolyzed at low temperatures to release large amounts of reducing gas, which can efficiently reduce red mud to obtain ZVI at lower temperature

This research studied the catalytic pyrolysis of oil sludge (OS) over metal-loaded HZSM-5 catalysts, an eco-friendly and cost-effective technology to produce value-added aromatics such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene (BTEXs). In particular, it evaluated the respective effects of the experimental parameters: the type and amount of the metal loaded, the reaction temperature, and the OS/catalyst ratio, on the BTEXs yield sequentially to achieve optimum conditions. This evaluation showed that the highest yields of the BTEXs (6.61 wt%) and other aromatics were achieved when Ni was inc

Copper-based Ruddlesden-Popper perovskite oxides activated hydrogen peroxide for coal pyrolysis wastewater (CPW) degradation: Performance and mechanism.

Coal pyrolysis wastewater (CPW) contained all kinds of toxic and harmful components, which would seriously threaten the natural environment and human health. However, the traditional advanced oxidation processes frequently failed to remove phenolic substances. An A2BO4-type perovskite (La2CuO4) was successfully synthesized through sol-gel process and first applied in the treatment of CPW. More than 90% of 3, 5-dimethylphenol (DMP) was removed within 200 min at neutral conditions. Moreover, La2CuO4 also displayed excellent catalytic activity and stability in the actual CPW treatment process. Re

Effects of red mud on emission control of NOx precursors during sludge pyrolysis: A protein model compound study.

The nitrogen-containing gases pyrolyzed from sewage sludge can be converted into NOx compounds, which would cause severe environmental pollution. This study developed a new strategy to reduce the emission of NOx precursors such as ammonia (NH3) and hydrogen cyanide (HCN) using red mud. The highest reduction efficiencies (15.10% for NH3 and 24.72% for HCN) were achieved at 900 °C while compared with those pyrolyzed from raw sludge without the addition of red mud. The transformation and distribution of nitrogenous compounds in three-phase pyrolysates were studied at 400-800 °C for pyrolysis proc
