Treatment Outcomes of Gamma-Knife Radio Surgery in Refractory Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

BACKGROUND: Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common disease that has negative effects on functionality, and 10% of the patients do not respond to first-line treatments. Gamma-knife radiosurgery (GKRS) has been used in patients with treatment-resistant OCD, but the data on long-term outcomes are still unsatisfactory. METHODS: In this study, 12 patients who underwent GKRS between 2005 and 2020 were evaluated retrospectively. Anterior capsulotomy was performed using two 4-mm isocenters at the midputaminal point of the anterior limb of the internal capsule on each side with a maximum radi

Anthropogenic Radio-Frequency Electromagnetic Fields Elicit Neuropathic Pain in an Amputation Model.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Anecdotal and clinical reports have suggested that radio-frequency electromagnetic fields (RF EMFs) may serve as a trigger for neuropathic pain. However, these reports have been widely disregarded, as the epidemiological effects of electromagnetic fields have not been systematically proven, and are highly controversial. Here, we demonstrate that anthropogenic RF EMFs elicit post-neurotomy pain in a tibial neuroma transposition model. Behavioral assays indicate a persistent and significant pain response to RF EMFs when compared to SHAM surgery groups. Laser thermometry revealed a transient skin

Activity of horseradish peroxide adsorbed on radio frequency glow discharge-treated polymers.

Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) has been used as a model enzyme in this study of its physical adsorption and residual enzyme activity on radio frequency glow discharge (RFGD)-treated polymers. The specific enzymatic activity of HRP adsorbed on different surfaces was assumed to be an indication of the extent of its conformational alterations on the surfaces. The surfaces studied were poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET), polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), and tetrachloroethylene and tetrafluoroethylene glow discharge-treated PET, abbreviated as TCE/PET and TFE/PET. All surfaces were characterized by e

Post-traumatic radio-ulnar synostosis treated by surgical excision and adjunctive radiotherapy.

The management of three cases of traumatic radio-ulnar synostosis involved surgical excision of the synostotic bone followed by radiotherapy. Irradiation was commenced on the first postoperative day and was continued daily. The first patient received 20 Gy midline in 10 fractions and the second and third patients 10 Gy in five fractions. No acute side effects were observed. All three patients regained a good, functional range of forearm rotation with no evidence of recurrence of the synostosis after 2 years. This method of treatment is recommended as an alternative to other adjunctive therapie

Interconnection morphology effects on the radio frequency response of carbon nanotube sponges.

In this work, the high-frequency response of a multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) film grown on a silicon substrate is compared with that of MWCNT sponges (CNSs). Different from the CNT film, CNSs are a self-standing material that can operate in the absence of a supporting substrate, showing high flexibility, light weight, and mechanical robustness. We tested our synthesized CNSs as active material for the production of antennas working in the radio frequency (RF) range to determine whether CNT sponges present, in addition to practical advantages over CNT films, also an actual performance gai

In situ-formed multifunctional nanozyme hydrogel for synergistic radio-immunotherapy of osteosarcoma.

Osteosarcoma faces the challenges of limited drug delivery and an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment. M1 macrophages, a type of tumor-associated macrophage, play a pivotal role in shaping tumor immune responses. A dual enzyme-mimicking nanozyme coordinated to risedronate sodium and encapsulated in a sodium alginate gel (RZRSA) was developed to enhance the radiosensitivity of osteosarcoma. After intratumoral injection, RZRSA formed a calcium alginate hydrogel in osteosarcoma owing to the presence of Ca2+. Because of its peroxidase-like activity, RZRSA generated abundant toxic hydroxyl rad

An Enzymatic Platform for Late-Stage (Radio)isotope Labelling of Oligonucleotides With Methyltransferases.

The development of therapeutic nucleic acids has become a cornerstone of modern drug discovery. To support the clinical translation of these modalities, radiolabelled analogues are vital for absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) studies, particularly for quantitative whole-body autoradiography (QWBA). Access to such radio probes is limited because established methods for the preparation of 3H-labelled oligonucleotides are characterised by high costs, extensive lead times, low specific activity and the generation of substantial radioactive waste. To address these limitations

Reprogramming of radiation-deteriorated TME by liposomal nanomedicine to potentiate radio-immunotherapy.

Radiotherapy, although widely used for cancer therapy, always triggers changes in tumor microenvironment (TME) that lead to radioresistance and immunosuppression. In particular, during X-ray irradiation, hypoxia exacerbation would reduce radiosensitivity of tumor cells, while programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1) upregulation impairs antitumor immune responses and exacerbates DNA damage repair, collectively resulting in severe T cell exhaustion and unsatisfactory therapeutic effect. Herein, we developed a liposomal nanodrug, C/J-LipoRGD, to simultaneously encapsulate a biological enzyme and a

A compact and fast radio-frequency source for efficient Raman sideband cooling.

A compact and fast radio-frequency (RF) source developed for Raman sideband cooling (RSBC) in trapped ion and cold atom experiments is presented. The source is based on direct digital synthesizer, advanced real-time infrastructure for quantum physics, and field programmable gate array. The source has a frequency switching speed of 40 ns and can output continuous μs-level time sequences for RSBC. The maximum output frequency of the source is 1.4 GHz. The RF source is capable of pre-writing data for eight channels. As a demonstration, the RF source is applied to our 25Mg+-27Al+ ion pair optical

Combining Experimental and Theoretical Tools to Probe Radio-Oxidation Products in Polyethylene.

Polyethylene is one of the most used polymers in a variety of sectors. A typical technique used to assess aging is infrared spectroscopy. Under oxidation, the region of the spectrum that is most studied is the one containing the carbonyl signature. However, various carbonyl groups contribute to the carbonyl peak: ketones, aldehydes, esters, lactones, carboxylic acids, and more. A usual procedure to quantify each of them is the deconvolution of experimental peaks based on experimental assignments of infrared bands. In this paper, we complement this procedure, applied to two polyethylene types,
