A Priori Estimation of the Narrow-Band UVB Phototherapy Outcome for Moderate-to-Severe Psoriasis Based on the Patients' Questionnaire and Blood Tests Using Random Forest Classifier.

BACKGROUND: Nowadays, patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis are treated with conventional immunosuppressants or with new biological agents. Phototherapy is the first-line treatment for patients in whom topical therapy is insufficient. Although numerous studies have been carried out, it is still difficult to predict the outcome of phototherapy in individual patients. METHODS: Prior to standard narrow band (NB) ultraviolet B (UVB) phototherapy, the patients filled out a questionnaire about personal life and health status. Several standard blood tests, including selected cytokine levels, we

Analysis of wintertime O3 variability using a random forest model and high-frequency observations in Zhangjiakou-an area with background pollution level of the North China Plain.

The short-term health effects of ozone (O3) have highlighted the need for high-temporal-resolution O3 observations to accurately assess human exposure to O3. Here, we performed 20-s resolution observations of O3 precursors and meteorological factors to train a random forest model capable of accurately predicting O3 concentrations. Our model performed well with an average validated R2 of 0.997. Unlike in typical linear model frameworks, variable dependencies are not clearly modelled by random forest model. Thus, we conducted additional studies to provide insight into the photochemical and atmos

Elucidating the active compounds and anti-inflammatory mechanisms of Wubi Shanyao pill through random forest-based spectrum-effect relationship analysis and UPLC-MS/MS-based network pharmacology.

This study integrated the spectrum-effect relationship with UPLC-MS/MS-based network pharmacology to identify the active compounds and clarify the anti-inflammatory mechanism of Wubi Shanyao Pill (WSP). The chemical fingerprint of WSP was established using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and its anti-inflammatory properties were evaluated in lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and interferon-gamma (IFN-γ)-induced bone marrow macrophages (BMDM) by assessing four inflammatory factors. A random forest (RF) algorithm associated phytochemical components with anti-inflammatory activity,

Comparison of random survival forest and Cox regression for long-term prognosis of pediatric Wilms tumor: based on the SEER database and external validation cohort from China.

BACKGROUND: Wilms tumor (WT) is the most common malignant renal tumor in children. Despite advances in treatment, accurate prediction of the long-term prognosis remains challenging. Various Cox regression-based models have been developed to assess WT survival rates; however, there is a pressing need for more precise tools. METHODS: Data from the SEER database (2000-2021) and external validation data from Chongqing Medical University Children's Hospital were utilized. Key prognostic factors for children with WT were identified via last absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regressi

A prediction model of elderly hip fracture mortality including preoperative red cell distribution width constructed based on the random survival forest (RSF) and Cox risk ratio regression.

UNLABELLED: An independent correlation between pre-RDW and 1-year mortality after surgery in elderly hip fracture can be used to predict mortality in elderly hip fracture patients and has predictive significance in anemia patients. With further research, a treatment algorithm can be developed to potentially identify patients at high risk of preoperative mortality. INTRODUCTION: Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is an independent predictor of various disease states in elderly individuals, but its association with the prognosis of elderly hip fracture patients is controversial. This study

Mood Disorder Detection in Adolescents by Classification Trees, Random Forests and XGBoost in Presence of Missing Data.

We apply tree-based classification algorithms, namely the classification trees, with the use of the rpart algorithm, random forests and XGBoost methods to detect mood disorder in a group of 2508 lower secondary school students. The dataset presents many challenges, the most important of which is many missing data as well as the being heavily unbalanced (there are few severe mood disorder cases). We find that all algorithms are specific, but only the rpart algorithm is sensitive; i.e., it is able to detect cases of real cases mood disorder. The conclusion of this paper is that this is caused by

Risk Stratification for Graft Failure After Pediatric Heart Transplantation Using Random Survival Forests.

BACKGROUND: Prediction in pediatric heart transplantation is challenging due to clinical heterogeneity. This presents the dilemma of modeling non-linear relationships and complex variable structures. It may be overcome by survival-based machine learning techniques designed to accommodate time to event outcomes, contrary to traditional approaches. METHODS: In this study, we developed and evaluated a Random Survival Forest model to predict graft failure among pediatric heart transplant recipients using United Network for Organ Sharing registry data (post-July 2016). The primary outcome was graf

Identification and Functional Annotation of Genes Related to Bone Stability in Laying Hens Using Random Forests.

Skeletal disorders, including fractures and osteoporosis, in laying hens cause major welfare and economic problems. Although genetics have been shown to play a key role in bone integrity, little is yet known about the underlying genetic architecture of the traits. This study aimed to identify genes associated with bone breaking strength and bone mineral density of the tibiotarsus and the humerus in laying hens. Potentially informative single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) were identified using Random Forests classification. We then searched for genes known to be related to bone stability in cl

Randomized comparison of femoropopliteal artery drug-eluting balloons and drug-eluting stents (FOREST trial): Study protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

The optimal endovascular treatment for femoropopliteal arterial occlusive disease has yet to be assessed. Patency rates after uncoated balloon angioplasty are disappointing. Although stents have better outcomes, they also have limitations. Intra-arterial stenting may lead to stent thrombosis and flow pattern disruption, which may result in stent fracture or in-stent restenosis. In the past decade, drug-eluting balloons (DEBs) and drug-eluting stents (DESs) have been introduced, and both have been proven to possess antirestenotic features compared with conventional techniques. The objective of

Three-dimensional fluorescence combined with alternating trilinear decomposition and random forest algorithm for the rapid prediction of species, geographical origin and main components of Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao).

Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao) is a functional food whose quality varies significantly between distinct geographical sources owing to the influence of genetics and the geographical environment. This study employed three-dimensional fluorescence coupled with alternating trilinear decomposition (ATLD) and random forest (RF) algorithms to rapidly predict Gancao species, geographical origins, and primary constituents. Seven fluorescent components were resolved from the three-dimensional fluorescence of the ATLD for subsequent analysis. Results indicated that the RF model distinguished Ganc

Application of logistic regression, support vector machine and random forest on the effects of titanium dioxide nanoparticles using macroalgae in treatment of certain risk factors associated with kidney injuries.

The use of titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles in many biological and technical domains is on the rise. There hasn't been much research on the toxicity of titanium dioxide nanoparticles in biological systems, despite their ubiquitous usage. In the current investigation, samples were exposed to various dosages of TiO2 nanoparticles for 4 days, 1 month, and 2 months following treatment. ICP-AES was used to dose TiO2 into the tissues, and the results showed that the kidney had a significant TiO2 buildup. On the other hand, apoptosis of renal tubular cells is one of the most frequent cellular pr
