Crown-root fracture is defined as a fracture involving enamel, dentin and pulp and can be classified as either complicated or uncomplicated. The tooth with crown-root fracture presents a lot of problems during coronal restorations and extraction was formerly used in many cases. But loss of a permanent incisor in a young patient may create severe emotional problems and alternative treatment approaches must be considered. This report presents the successful results of a surgical extrusion of a complicated crown-root fractured, immature permanent incisor in a 9-year-old boy. Examination 36 months

Pre-eruptive intracoronal resorption (PIER) can be described by the presence of coronal radiolucency in a unerupted tooth. Upon eruption, the resorbed dentine might leave the occlusal layer of enamel unsupported and susceptible to fracture, potentially exposing the pulp chamber and root canals to the oral flora. With current case studies showing unfavourable endodontic and restorative consequences of PIER lesions when left untreated, this case report presents an unchanged lesion, 7 years following initial identification.

One family of familial gingival fibromatosis was presented. Case 1 is an 11 years old girl. Gingival fibromatosis was noted by delayed eruption of permanent teeth. Fibromatosis was seen in whole gingiva and lower 1/2 to 1/3 of the tooth crowns was covered. Gingivectomy was performed. Case 2 was 42 years old man, who was father of case 1. Firstly gingival swelling was noted at the age of 10 years. He had operations of gingivectomy at the age of 28 years. It recurred and fibromatosis was seen in whole gingiva and lower 1/2 to 1/3 of the tooth crowns was covered. Cytogenetically no abnormality wa

Intrusive luxation is an injury involving the axial displacement of a tooth into the alveolar socket. This paper describes apexification using calcium hydroxide medicaments of an immature permanent central incisor in which spontaneous re-eruption as well as severe inflammatory external root resorption was observed following traumatic intrusion. A 10-year-old boy was referred to the Department of Pediatric Dentistry 3 days after having fallen at school. Intraoral examination revealed intrusive luxation and an enamel-dentin crown fracture of the maxillary left central incisor (Tooth 21). The too

Intrusive luxation is a type of recognizable luxation injury represented by a deeper axial displacement of the tooth toward the alveolar bone. Treatment strategies include waiting for the tooth to return to its position, immediate surgical repositioning, and repositioning through dental traction by orthodontic devices. The aim of this case report was to present the management of severe dental trauma and later restoration following IADT. A 20-year-old patient was presented after fainting at home four hours before, resulting in a dento-alveolar trauma. Clinical examinations revealed a traumatic

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Preformed zirconia crowns have emerged as the preferred choice for restoring damaged primary incisors. However, they differ from natural teeth in their biophysical properties and can potentially alter the overall response of crowned teeth to a traumatic load. This in silico study aimed to compare the response of three different traumatic loading conditions for the (i) natural (M1) and (ii) zirconia-restored tooth models (M2) models.
METHODOLOGY: A 3D dynamic finite element (FE) analysis was performed, and minimum dynamic loads required for fracture and coronal portion disjunc

BACKGROUND: Dentigerous cysts (DCs) are among the most frequently odontogenic cysts in young and middle-aged individuals. Marsupialization and enucleation are the main treatment options in clinical practice. However, there are few reports on preserving molars severely involved by the cyst.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old male patient with a large odontogenic cyst that was successfully treated using a multidisciplinary approach. The patient's chief complaint was discomfort during mastication in the lower left molar region for a month. Clinical examination revealed that teeth 36 and 37 were in

Dentigerous cyst is a developmental odontogenic cyst, which develops by accumulation of fluid between reduced enamel epithelium and the tooth crown of an unerupted tooth. Dentigerous cysts are usually solitary, slow growing, asymptomatic lesions that are incidentally found during routine radiographs They most frequently involve the mandibular third molar followed in order of frequency by the maxillary canine, mandibular second pre-molar and maxillary third molar. Occasionally, these cysts become painful when infected causing swelling and erythema. The cyst is usually small, however, when large

PURPOSE: To evaluate the stress distribution of the cervical-defected incisor with labial or lingual endodontic access with finite element analysis (FEA), and to explore the advantage of resistance in labial endodontic access.
METHODS: 3-D finite element models of upper cervical-defected incisor were established using cone-beam CT (CBCT), Mimics Catia, and Ansys software. The subjects were categorized according to the two endodontic accesses and three restorative ways, which were composite resin, glass fiber-reinforced composite resin and glass fiber-reinforced post-crown. All the models were

PURPOSE: The presence of a treatable gingival recession in teeth ready for crown preparation requires a combined restorative-periodontal effort to achieve all biologic and esthetic goals. This needs an ideal artificial crown proportion and a harmonious gingival architecture. Traditionally, a root coverage procedure is initially performed followed by final crown preparation and cementation. However, during the prosthetic phase, irritation to the grafted delicate tissue may be followed by recession and exposed crown margins. To minimize prosthetic irritations, the "crown-then-graft approach" (CT

BACKGROUND: Prefabricated fibreglass crowns (PFCs) require less tooth structure reduction than prefabricated zirconium crowns (PZCs) for restoring primary molars. Little is known, however, about their mechanical properties.
AIM: To investigate the fatigue survival and fracture resistance of PZCs and PFCs cemented with two different types of luting cement [glass-ionomer cement (GIC) and resin-modified GIC (RMGIC)].
DESIGN: One hundred and twenty extracted human primary molars were randomly divided into subgroups (n = 15) according to the crown type (PFCs/PZCs), the luting cement (GIC/RMGIC) a

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to evaluate the crown and root development in patients with cleft lip and palate using medical software programmes.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: In our study, 25 patients with mixed dentition unilateral cleft lip and palate were examined with cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). The tomography images obtained as high resolution medical images on the computer control system (MIMICS 15.0, Materialise, Leuven, Belgium and SOLIDWORKS 2014 Premium, Concord, Massachusetts) were converted to three-dimensional volumetric images. These three-dimensional images of the c

AIM: To present a case of a concomitant occurrence of dens invaginatus (DI) and gemination in a mandibular left lateral incisor.
BACKGROUND: DI is a developmental anomaly resulting from the invagination of a portion of a crown in the enamel organ stage of odontogenesis. It is commonly found in the maxillary lateral incisors but also occurs in the central incisors, premolars, canines, and molars in descending order of frequency. The occurrence of DI in the mandible is extremely rare. Gemination results from one tooth bud attempting to split into two. Geminated teeth present with a single root

The buccal bone wall is the part of the socket of an anterior tooth that is most susceptible to resorption. Immediate implants offer advantages in terms of time, comfort, and esthetics, especially regarding the maintenance of the papillae architecture. However, the loss of the buccal bone wall is often a limitation for such a therapy. This case report describes a clinical procedure designed to reconstruct the buccal bone wall to restore an anterior tooth where this wall was absent. The approach involved a flapless immediate implant based on the principles of guided bone regeneration (GBR), and

Supernumerary teeth occur frequently in the permanent dentition, but they are rare in the primary dentition. Mesiodens is a supernumerary tooth with a cone shaped crown and a short root. The supernumerary tooth which bears resemblance to the tooth with which it is associated is called a supplemental tooth. The etiology of supernumerary teeth is still unknown and not well understood. Radiographic examination of pre-school children is essential for their diagnosis. Early removal of these teeth is required so that complications such as delay in eruption of permanent teeth, crowding, diastema, rot

An otherwise healthy young caucasian Australian was referred because of the unusual radiographic appearance of a maxillary permanent incisor. The tooth was found to have an enlarged crown with palatal cusp and dens invaginatus. Over five years' follow-up the tooth showed no signs of pulp necrosis. The major problem was the correction of the patient's esthetics as he approached adulthood.

The paper presents the results on hereditary and environmental dental findings in identification of human remains exhumed from mass graves in the Republic of Croatia. The total of 17,880 teeth from all the categories (incisors, canines, premolars and molars) was examined. Hereditary findings of the teeth such as shape, size, position, as well as age were used in all of the cases confirming and completing the identification. In only 15% of the cases they were the starting points for the identification that would be later confirmed with another 3-5 traditional identification procedures. Disturba

Crown-root fractures in primary teeth are rare, with a wide variation of patterns that make diagnosis and treatment difficult. The aim of this study was to present a case series of crown-root fractures in primary teeth of children who attended a reference center. The study followed 28 cases of crown-root fractures in 26 children, representing 4% of the total number of attendees over 11 years of reference service at the Universidade Federal de Pelotas, Pelotas, Brazil. In most cases, the maxillary central incisors (85.7%) were involved. In the crown, 57.1% of the cases had a simple line of frac

The need to rehabilitate severely compromised teeth is frequent in daily clinical practice. Tooth extraction and replacement with dental implant represents a common treatment choice. However, the survival rate for implants is inferior to teeth, even if severely damaged but properly treated. In order to reestablish a physiological supracrestal tissue attachment of damaged teeth and to arrange an efficient ferrule effect, three options can be considered: crown lengthening, orthodontic extrusion and surgical extrusion. Crown lengthening is considered an invasive technique that causes the removal

Dental trauma in primary teeth can cause irreversible changes in the development of permanent tooth germs, including enamel hypoplasia, crown dilaceration, and root dilaceration. This article discusses multidisciplinary treatment of enamel hypoplasia and root dilaceration in the maxillary left central incisor of an 11-year-old girl. A 10-year follow-up is reported to demonstrate the long-term clinical outcomes. At the initial presentation, the patient's mother reported that the child had an accident at the age of 2 years, resulting in intrusive luxation of the primary maxillary left central in
