The Emerging Biological Functions of Exosomes from Dental Tissue-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells.

Exosomes are one kind of small-cell extracellular membranous vesicles that can regulate intercellular communication and give rise to mediating the biological behaviors of cells, involving in tissue formation, repair, the modulation of inflammation, and nerve regeneration. The abundant kinds of cells can secret exosomes, among them, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are very perfect cells for mass production of exosomes. Dental tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (DT-MSCs), including dental pulp stem cells, stem cells from exfoliated deciduous teeth, stem cells from apical papilla, stem cells fro

[Replantation of avulsed immature permanent teeth. Results in 39 cases after an average of 2.5 years].

The aim of this investigation was a critical assessment of the short- and medium-term results of replantation of immature, avulsed permanent teeth. Thirty-nine teeth were investigated after 2.5 years on average. Only 7 teeth (18%) had been replanted within 5 min after avulsion. Sixteen teeth (41%) showed revascularisation or ingrowth of alveolar bone into the pulp. Twenty-two teeth (56%) showed signs of ankylosis, 6 (15%) had been exfoliated or extracted. Seventeen teeth (77% of the ankylotic ones) exhibited an alveolar growth arrest of 1.5 mm per 10 cm body growth. By planimetric assessment,

Loss of deciduous teeth and germs of permanent incisors in a 4-year-old child. An atypic prepubertal periodontitis? A clinical, microbiological, immunological and ultrastructural study.

A 4-year-old child was referred, in April 1988, to Rennes Dental School (France) for deciduous tooth mobility with premature loss of 4 deciduous teeth and germs of 2 permanent incisors. Microbiological examinations by culture revealed the presence of the periodontal pathogen Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans. Immunofluorescence of plaque samples revealed the presence of Porphyromonas gingivalis that had not been isolated by culture. Neutrophil functions were within normal ranges. Transmission electron microscopy of gingiva showed a disorganised epithelium. The connective tissue was infiltra

Current concepts in vital primary pulp therapy.

Recent progress in understanding the molecular and cellular changes during tooth development and how they are mimicked during tissue repair, offers the opportunity to assess the biologic validity of the various vital pulp treatments. Under this light, indirect pulp treatment can be an acceptable procedure for primary teeth with reversible pulp inflammation, provided that this diagnosis is based on a good history, a proper clinical and radiographic examination, and the tooth had been sealed with a leakage-free restoration. Several articles report the success of this technique of direct pulp cap

Comparison of the Pull-Out Resistance of Grossly Decayed Primary Anterior Teeth Restored With Two Different Intracanal Posts: An In Vitro Study.

Background Severely damaged primary anterior teeth that require pulp therapy present a high risk of failure due to the loss of tooth substance, resulting from pre-existing decay and endodontic therapy. The ideal post material should have physical and mechanical properties similar to those of dentin. Another concern in restoring endodontically treated primary teeth is the need to find a material that can resorb similar to the natural tooth structure as a part of the exfoliation process, allowing normal eruption of permanent successors. Accordingly, there is no such material other than dentin it

Abnormal premolar eruption: classification, aetiology, and treatment based on a case series study.

AIM: The aim of this case series study is to classify deviations in mandibular and maxillary premolar eruption according to aetiology, with a focus on the resorption pattern in the preceding primary molars. The purpose is also to give treatment guidance based on aetiology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Radiographic material from 64 cases with abnormal premolar eruptions were grouped into three eruptions phases: Phase 1, from tooth bud to early root formation, sub-grouped according to "ankylosis" or "not ankylosis" of the primary molars; Phase 2, from start of eruption to the penetration of gingiva,

A radix dipsaci-loaded gelatin methacryloyl nanocomposite hydrogel with slow release and osteogenic effects.

Periodontitis induce alveolar bone destruction, which may result in tooth loosening, exfoliation, or oral functional impairment in severe cases. The development of novel therapeutic agents with sustained efficacy and robust mechanical properties represents a critical unmet need for clinical management of bone defect-related diseases. We investigated the efficacy of Radix Dipsaci (RD), a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, and its derivatives in bone defect therapy by incorporating RD into a nanocomposite hydrogel composed of gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA) and silicate nanoplatelets (SN), yieldin

Unveiling an Uncommon Scenario of Co-occurrence of Multiple Odontomes With Impacted Maxillary Lateral Incisor and Canine in a 17-Year-Old Girl: A Unique and Rare Case Report.

This case report presents the enigma of multiple odontomes with overretained deciduous teeth leading to the impaction of permanent successors (22, 23) in an abnormal position in a 17-year-old female patient who reported the chief complaint of maligned teeth. Permanent maxillary canines and lateral incisors are the most common teeth to face the brunt of impaction due to a wide range of etiological factors. It is imperative for a clinician to diagnose cases at an early stage to accelerate the rate of eruption of such teeth. This is especially important in cases where initially the etiology seems

Multiple Idiopathic Cervical Root Resorption: A Challenge for a Transdisciplinary Medical-Dental Team.

The goal of this perspective article is to use multiple idiopathic cervical root resorption (MICRR) as a model to demonstrate the need for transdisciplinary collaborations, from basic science to treatment planning, to improve the quality of health care for all. This is not a review of the literature on the current state of MICRR. Tooth root resorption is a normal physiological process required for resorption and exfoliation of primary teeth; however, root resorption of adult teeth is largely pathological. MICRR is an aggressive form of external root resorption, which occurs near the cemento-en

Deciduous pulp stem cell-derived extracellular vesicles stimulate the proliferation of cartilage progenitor cells via extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase 1/2 activation.

The developmental dysfunction of cartilage progenitor cells (CPCs) causes dwarfism. Radical therapies for dwarfism remain underdeveloped. Recently, the therapeutic benefits of extracellular vesicles (EVs) released from human exfoliated deciduous tooth-derived stem cells (SHED) have been investigated for their potential to restore disease-target cells. However, the effects of EVs on human CPCs for the treatment of dwarfism remain unclear. We investigated the impact of EVs on cell proliferation, telomerase activity, telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT) expression, cell cycle, and extracellula

Natural Teeth for Prosthetic Solutions in Pediatric Patients: Two Case Reports of Biologically Based Removable Functional Partial Dentures.

Prosthetic appliances are essential for promoting the proper development of teeth, dental arches, and facial bones in children. Due to the constantly changing nature of a child's oral environment, these appliances must be temporary and require regular maintenance and adjustment to avoid impeding orofacial growth. A fundamental aspect of contemporary dentistry is re-establishing aesthetics. The absence of front teeth can cause appearance-related concerns in children. Personal appearance holds significant importance for children, particularly during adolescence. Even preschoolers, aged three to

Amyloid-mediated remineralization for tooth hypoplasia of cleidocranial dysplasia.

INTRODUCTION: Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is an autosomal-dominant, heritable skeletal and dental disease, involving hypoplastic clavicles, defective ossification of the anterior fontanelle, dentin and enamel hypoplasia, and supernumerary teeth, which can seriously affect the oral and mental health of patients. Amyloid-like protein aggregation, which is established by lysozyme conjugated with polyethylene glycol (Lyso-PEG), forms a mineralized nanofilm layer on a healthy enamel surface. However, whether it can form a remineralization layer in dental tissues from CCD remains unclear. METHODS
