Intramuscular Tendon Injuries of the Hamstring Muscles: A More Severe Variant? A Narrative Review.

Hamstring strain injuries (HSI) are one of the most common sport-related injuries. They have a high injury burden and a high recurrence rate. The development of novel muscle injury grading systems has provided new insights into the possible impact of injury location on the time to return to play (TTRTP) and re-injury following HSI. In particular, injuries to the intramuscular tendon (IMT) may be present in up to 41% of all HSI and have been described as a 'serious thigh muscle strain'. Re-injury rates as high as 60% have been described in elite track and field athletes, as well as prolonged TT

Saccadic Vector Optokinetic Perimetry (SVOP): a novel technique for automated static perimetry in children using eye tracking.

Perimetry is essential for identifying visual field defects due to disorders of the eye and brain. However, young children are often unable to reliably perform the preferred method of visual field assessment known as automated static perimetry (ASP). This paper introduces a novel method of ASP specifically developed for children called Saccadic Vector Optokinetic Perimetry (SVOP). SVOP uses eye tracking to detect the natural saccadic eye response of gaze orientation towards visual field stimuli if they are seen. In this paper, the direction and magnitude of a sample of subject gaze responses t

Twist-tuned exchange and hysteresis in a bilayer van der Waals magnet.

Moiré superlattices in twisted bilayers enable strong reconstruction of electronic band structures, giving rise to correlated phases with high tunability. Extending this concept to van der Waals magnets, we show that twisting induces spatially varying interlayer exchange interactions that can stabilize complex magnetic responses. Here, we demonstrate robust magnetic hysteresis in bilayer CrSBr upon a twist of  ~ 3°, observed as a hysteretic evolution of exciton energies that directly track the underlying magnetic configuration in field-dependent photoluminescence measurements. An analytic two-

Tractography: Possible Applications in Musculoskeletal Radiology.

Tractography (or fiber tracking) consists of three-dimensional modeling of the preferential movement of water molecules in the form of fiber tracks from the tensor field information. This technique allows a new approach for the microarchitectural analysis of anisotropic structures such as nerves, white matter, and muscles. Many disorders have been studied including cervical myelopathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, nerve root compression, and nerve tumors. Muscles have been less evaluated. Tractography is still a research technique, and its validation and widespread routine clinical use will require

Real-time multi-object tracking for sports scenarios: a lightweight detection and edge deployment co-design framework.

Real-time multi-object tracking (MOT) in sports videos faces persistent challenges arising from dense player occlusion, rapid nonlinear motion, and the stringent computational constraints of edge devices. This paper presents an integrated framework that co-designs a lightweight detector, an adaptive tracking strategy, and an edge deployment pipeline to address these challenges jointly. We propose Sports-LiteDet, a compact detection network featuring a coordinate-attention-enhanced backbone and a bidirectional multi-scale feature fusion neck, which achieves 71.8% mAP@0.5 on sports test data at

Non-Invasively Tracking an Arbitrary Deformable Object Through Scattering Media and Around Corners via Speckle Correlations.

Tracking a hidden object is of great significance across various fields. Although several methods have attempted to track an object behind scattering media, they either only work by assuming the object's shape is invariant, or require prior information. Here, we propose a speckle correlation centroid localization method (SCCLM) for non-invasively tracking a moving deformable object behind or inside scattering media and around corners, without any prior information. After capturing speckle patterns of the object at different moments, the relative centroid displacements can be determined by loca

Predicting BMX Performance with Laboratory Measurements in Elite Riders.

In Bicycle Motocross (BMX) performance is determined by the riders' sprint ability and power output. Therefore, descriptive and predictive performance assessments through laboratory and field tests are of interest. Twelve members of the Spanish BMX National Team performed 4 laboratory tests, including 1RM in squat, a Wingate test, a 5x6-s repeated sprint test (RST) and a force-velocity profile test. These tests were compared with the riders' field performance using the best lap of a simulated BMX competition consisting of 6 all-out laps on a standard BMX track. Pearson's correlation and linear

Antibody-guided structure-based vaccines.

The vaccine field is pursuing diverse approaches to translate the molecular insights from analyses of effective antibodies and their targeted epitopes into immunogens capable of eliciting protective immune responses. Here we review current antibody-guided strategies including conformation-based, epitope-based, and lineage-based vaccine approaches, which are yielding promising vaccine candidates now being evaluated in clinical trials. We summarize directions being employed by the field, including the use of sequencing technologies to monitor and track developing immune responses for understandi

Automatic prediction error responses to hands with unexpected laterality: an electrophysiological study.

Little is known about how the human brain keeps track of body parts in the visual field. Here we show that unattended images of right/left hands elicit a mismatch response when they violate a regularity established by repeated visual presentations of the other hand. In a visual oddball experiment we found mismatch responses to hands with unexpected laterality (e.g. left versus predicted right hand) in the periphery of the visual field. Unexpected left hands were processed predominantly in the contralateral superior parietal cortex, whereas unexpected right hands evoked differential activity in

An On-Orbit Star Tracker Benchmark for Resident Space Object Detection and Attitude Estimation.

Space situational awareness increasingly relies on optical observations to detect and track resident space objects and to estimate spacecraft attitude. Many existing resources are synthetic or restricted, and few provide on orbit, wide field of view imagery with joint labels for space objects and stars. We present a dataset of near-infrared images acquired by the Fast Auroral Imager on the CASSIOPE spacecraft between January and August 2023. The collection comprises 1,378 frames with astrometrically calibrated stars and 4,237 manually verified resident space object instances across 160 transit

Position and Force Control of a Soft Pneumatic Actuator.

Recent advances in robotic systems have increased the need for various kinds of robots in many fields, such as aerospace and medical. Utilizing hard robots in such fields can cause irrecoverable damages; therefore, scientists have taken inspiration from nature to build robots with soft bodies. In this article, a soft pneumatic actuator that reshapes in the x-y plane is controlled. This continuous soft robot uses air pressure as actuation to control the end point position of the robot through curvature motion, and the force applied to a load cell. System identification approaches are used to mo

Wrist injuries: a comparison between high- and low-impact sports.

Wrist injuries can be categorized as those caused by high- or low-impact sports. High-impact sports include auto racing, motorcross or bicycle racing, in-line skating, gymnastics, football, soccer, ice skating, snowboarding, and alpine skiing. Low-impact sports include tennis, track and field, and golf. High-impact injuries of the wrist range from displaced fractures and dislocations to ligamentous and acute tendinous tears. Low-impact sports typically result in nondisplaced or occult fractures, contusions, stress reaction, ligamentous sprain, tendinopathy, tenosynovitis, or tendon subluxation

A comparative evaluation of the efficacy of traps and rodenticide baits in field studies with house mice (Mus musculus).

The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of trapping and subsequent rodenticide baiting for house mouse (Mus musculus) control under field conditions. Three field trials were conducted, with pre- and post-treatment feeding and tracking censuses used to estimate control success. Trapping alone reduced feeding census values by 69% from 159 to 49 g at Site 1, 40% (344 g/208 g) at Site 2, and 58% (194 g/82 g) at Site 3. Tracking censuses confirmed similar reductions (44-67%). Trapping was most effective in the lower infestation levels and where food availability was limited. The cho

Relationship between Range Use and Fearfulness in Free-Range Hens from Different Rearing Enrichments.

Inconsistency between the environments of indoor pullet rearing and adult outdoor housing may increase the fearfulness in free-range hens. Rearing enrichments and/or range use may reduce adult fearfulness. Hy-Line Brown® chicks (n = 1700) were reared inside across 16 weeks with three enrichment treatments: weekly changing novel objects, custom-designed perching/navigation structures, or no additional enrichments. Pullets were transferred to a free-range system at 16 weeks of age, with range access provided from 25 weeks. At 62 weeks, 135 hens were selected from the three rearing treatments and

Gas cell- and Fabry-Pérot interferometer-based self-calibration filtering system for a tunable laser to enhance the optical signal-to-noise ratio.

This study presents a self-calibrating synchronous filtering system that improves the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of external-cavity tunable lasers. It integrates a hydrogen cyanide gas cell with a Fabry-Pérot interferometer featuring a 1.5-GHz free spectral range for real-time wavelength calibration over a 1535-1555-nm sweep band. Leveraging this calibration process, a field-programmable gate array processes spectral fingerprints and dynamically controls a microelectromechanical system-based tunable optical filter, allowing the passband of the filter to synchronously track the instan

RE-LOCK and TRACK: A Reproducible Minimally Invasive Repair for Bileaflet Mitral Disease.

Complex bileaflet and Barlow-type degenerative disease remains among the most demanding substrates in reconstructive mitral surgery, and a right mini-thoracotomy amplifies every source of intraoperative variability. Two determinants dominate durability: excessive posterior leaflet height, which displaces the coaptation line anteriorly and drives residual regurgitation and systolic anterior motion; and, in anterior prolapse, neochordal length, where a millimetric error produces residual prolapse, restriction or recurrence. We describe RE-LOCK and TRACK, a two-component, posterior-first protocol
