Evaluation of Safety and Potency of Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) Vaccine Inactivated with Different Concentrations of Formalin and Comparative Evaluation of In Vitro and In Vivo Methods of Virus Titration in KFD Vaccine.

We evaluated the safety and potency of the Kyasanur Forest disease (KFD) vaccine inactivated with different formalin concentrations in mice, since the side effects due to higher formalin concentrations have been a major reason for vaccine refusal. Furthermore, with an objective to reduce the use of mice in vaccine testing, we performed quantification of the KFD virus by real-time PCR and compared it with in vivo titration in mice. The KFD vaccine prepared in chicken embryo fibroblast cells was inactivated with 0.04%, 0.06%, and 0.08% concentrations of formalin. The vaccine inactivated with 0.0

Increasing immunization coverage. American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Community Health Services. American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on Practice and Ambulatory Medicine.

Despite many recent advances in vaccine delivery, the goal for universal immunization set in 1977 has not been reached. In 2001, only 77.2% of US toddlers 19 to 35 months of age had received their basic immunization series of 4 doses of diphtheria and tetanus toxoids and acellular pertussis (DTaP) vaccine, 3 doses of inactivated poliovirus vaccine, 1 dose of measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, and 3 doses of Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine. Children who are members of a racial or ethnic minority, who are poor, or who live in inner-city or rural areas have lower immunization rates

Barriers Associated with the Uptake Ratio of Seasonal Flu Vaccine and Ways to Improve Influenza Vaccination Coverage among Young Health Care Workers in Poland.

Despite not being full-time health care workers, annual flu vaccination is nevertheless an important consideration for medical students. This study examined the reasons for refusing flu vaccination among medical students, a group characterized by low vaccination coverage, despite the fact that the flu vaccine is arguably the most effective way of preventing serious flu complications. A cross-sectional survey was performed of 1313 students at the Medical University of Lodz. The findings indicate that the main sites of vaccination were primary care centers, and main source of information about i

Vaccination burnout impedes the compliance with multiple-dose administration of vaccines.

Timely and complete administration of multiple-dose vaccines is essential to guarantee the efficacy. Our study aimed to investigate how people's vaccination attitudes changed over the course of the multi-dose vaccination schedule and comprehensively reported a phenomenon of vaccination burnout. The participants' vaccination burnout levels were quantified by our designed vaccination burnout scale. This study is a retrospective cross-sectional study. Among 3068 valid participants, 2991 had finished the routine two shots of COVID-19 vaccine, and 2367 had a positive attitude towards the primary do

[Further studies of continuous human and animal cell lines for the manufacture of viral vaccines and diagnostic kits].

Long-term experiments have provided conditions for the optimal conditions for reproduction of vaccine strains of poliomyelitis, measles, tick-borne and Japan encephalitis on the continuous cell lines. This makes it possible to solve one of the most urgent problems of modern biotechnology, namely to refuse to use primary cell cultures in vaccinology and to apply a more accessible, safe, and reference biological substrate that are stable cell lines.

Identifying psychological predictors of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination: A machine learning study.

BACKGROUND: Major barriers to addressing SARS-CoV-2 vaccine hesitancy include limited knowledge of what causes delay/refusal of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and limited ability to predict who will remain unvaccinated over significant time periods despite vaccine availability. The present study begins to address these barriers by developing a machine learning model that prospectively predicts who will persist in not vaccinating against SARS-CoV-2. METHOD: Unvaccinated individuals (n = 325) who completed a baseline survey were followed over the six-month period when vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 were f

Feasibility of jet injector use during inactivated poliovirus vaccine house-to-house vaccination campaigns.

BACKGROUND: To attain high coverage during polio vaccination campaigns, an outreach house-to-house strategy is used to administer oral poliovirus vaccine. Administering an injectable vaccine house-to-house requires a skilled work force and increases risks of needle stick injuries. Needle-free injection devices provide a safer alternative to needles and syringes for administering injectable vaccines. We evaluated the feasibility and acceptability of a needle-free injection device to administer injectable poliovirus vaccine during a house-to-house vaccination outreach activity. METHODS: Vaccina

Measuring trust in vaccination: A systematic review.

Vaccine acceptance depends on public trust and confidence in the safety and efficacy of vaccines and immunization, the health system, healthcare professionals and the wider vaccine research community. This systematic review analyses the current breadth and depth of vaccine research literature that explicitly refers to the concept of trust within their stated aims or research questions. After duplicates were removed, 19,643 articles were screened by title and abstract. Of these 2,779 were screened by full text, 35 of which were included in the final analysis. These studies examined a range of t

Cluster randomised trial to evaluate the effectiveness of a vaccine against cutaneous leishmaniasis in the Caratinga microregion, south-east Brazil.

BACKGROUND: The eco-epidemiological complexity of American cutaneous leishmaniasis (ACL) has made it difficult to devise an efficient strategy for management of the disease, and development of an effective vaccine remains the most promising approach. The objective of the study was to determine the reduction in incidence of ACL following intramuscular administration of two doses of a killed Leishmania (Leishmania) amazonensis vaccine. METHODS: A cluster randomised trial was conducted from 2002 to 2011 in 108 localities in an endemic area of southeast Brazil. Communities were stratified accordi

The complex landscape of vaccine hesitancy and hesitant adopters: Quantitative predictors and thematic insights into COVID-19 vaccine attitudes.

Vaccine hesitancy is one of the top 10 threats to public health. The COVID-19 pandemic and associated vaccinations marked a watershed moment for vaccine hesitancy, with highly publicized anti-vaccine protests, and widespread misinformation and distrust of the novel vaccines. This mixed-method survey sought to provide a nuanced understanding of vaccine hesitancy and hesitant vaccine adopters in the context of the COVID-19 vaccination. N = 410 participants completed an online survey comprising a battery of psychometric measures of vaccine hesitancy, personality, conspiracy belief, and political

The attitudes of psychiatric patients towards COVID-19 vaccination in China: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has become a global health catastrophe. By far, there has been no specific antiviral treatment for COVID-19. Developing a vaccine against COVID-19 appeared to be the most cost-effective strategy to stop the repeated outbreak. This study aimed to investigate the attitudes of psychiatric patients with regards to COVID-19 vaccination and potential factors that might influence their decision-making process. METHODS: Psychiatric patients participated in this cross-sectional survey in China. Family caregivers, usually a guardian or next of kin completed the questio

Mumps: a current epidemiologic pattern as a necessary background for the choice of a vaccination strategy.

Before the measles mumps rubella (MMR) vaccination was widely offered, the epidemiologic data about mumps (morbidity, immunization level, vaccine coverage) were analyzed in Piedmont region (Italy). The disease had a 3- to 5-year epidemic recurrence with morbidity rate between 40 and 150/100,000; the surveillance conducted by 'sentinel' pediatricians showed that the notifications underestimated the real data by about 5- to 7-fold. The 12-year-old subjects showed an immunization level (reached by the disease or the vaccination) of about 50% and their parents tended to refuse the MMR vaccination.

Uncovering Public Perceptions of Older Adults' Vaccines in Canada: A Study of Online Discussions from National Media Sources.

This study explored how a subsection of Canadians perceive older adults' vaccines through a qualitative analysis of comments posted in response to national online news articles. We used reflexive thematic analysis to analyse 147 comments from 31 news article comments sections published between 2015 and 2020 from five different national online news sources (CBC, National Post, Global News, Globe & Mail, and Huffington Post Canada) that focused on three older adults' diseases and vaccines: influenza, pneumococcal pneumonia, and herpes-zoster. Three themes encompassed the similarities and differe

Successful polio supplementary immunisation activities in a security compromised zone - Experiences from the Southwest region of Cameroon.

BACKGROUND: Supplementary immunisation activities (SIAs) play a central role in polio eradication efforts. Armed conflicts resulting in insecurity negatively affect SIAs. In the Southwest region of Cameroon, armed conflicts persisted in 2018. We present our experiences of conducting a polio SIA in an insecure region. METHODS: The SIA took place from the 2nd to 4th of March 2018 and targeted 307,920 children aged 0-59 months. Bivalent polio vaccine was used. Before the SIA, extensive planning was done under the leadership of a Central Technical Group. Planning included security assessment, adv

Autopsy of tetanus with foot gangrene as portal of entry.

Non-traumatic chronic skin lesions are the second most common cause of tetanus. Herein, we describe an 85-year-old woman who presented with a chronically infected skin lesion. She developed tetanus while in hospital and died of respiratory failure, after refusing mechanical ventilation. Routine immunization against tetanus began in Japan during 1968; hence many people born before 1968 are unvaccinated. Mortality due to tetanus is high and the proportion with protective antibodies is low in older adults. Therefore, we recommend tetanus vaccination for older persons in Japan who have chronic ski
