Our community-based participatory research partnership developed and tested the bilingual Appalachian Access Project, a peer navigation and mHealth intervention designed to promote HIV, sexually transmitted infection, hepatitis C virus, and mpox prevention and care among gay, bisexual, queer, and other men who have sex with men and transgender and nonbinary persons in Appalachia and to support medically supervised gender-affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) access among those desiring it. Although the intervention did not achieve its intended behavioral outcomes (e.g., increased use of HIV testing

Mpox is a re-emerging zoonotic illness that has raised concerns worldwide because of its outbreak in nonendemic areas, including Kenya. Following the recent outbreak of mpox in Kenya, the Ministry of Health rolled out a public health campaign via social and mainstream media. However, the impact of these campaigns has yet to be assessed. A descriptive cross-sectional study design was adopted, with a total of 5,920 residents randomly selected. A structured and validated questionnaire was used to collect the data. Data were analysed via Stata version 14.0. Descriptive statistics were used to summ

Individuals attending mpox vaccine-only visits at a sexually transmitted infection clinic were more likely to be new patients with high socioeconomic status and identify as White than those vaccinated during non-mpox-related visits. A small number received HIV preexposure prophylaxis or testing following vaccination; this may represent a missed opportunity for HIV prevention.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent multinational mpox outbreak significantly disrupted sexual health care delivery, particularly impacting men who have sex with men (MSM). This study investigated these public health emergencies in relation to perceptions, attitudes, and sexual practices among MSM affiliated with a collective sex venue (CSV).
METHODS: Electronic surveys were sent to clientele of a high-volume CSV between June 2021 and November 2022 across 3 time periods defined as pre-Omicron, post-Omicron, and mpox. Data collection encompassed sociodemographics, health care acce

Monkeypox or simian smallpox is a viral disease whose clinical manifestations are similar to the human smallpox. In this study authors describe the care management and follow up of eight patients hospitalized at the Impfondo hospital in Congo. It was a transversal study conducted from the 23rd of May till the 7th of July 2003 at the District Hospital of Impfondo (Likouala province, Republic of Congo). We have analyzed 81 patient files hospitalized during that period. Using the Atlanta CDC criteria of case definition modified in 2003, monkeypox has been diagnosed in 8 patients. Our series has 4

BACKGROUND: Mpox is a re-emerging zoonotic disease of global public health concern. Healthcare workers (HCWs) face elevated occupational risk and influence community vaccination behaviour, yet evidence on mpox vaccine uptake and hesitancy among Nigerian HCWs is limited. This study investigated the determinants of mpox vaccine uptake and hesitancy among HCWs in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. METHODS: This cross-sectional study involved 595 HCWs recruited using multistage sampling across healthcare facilities in Port Harcourt between March and July 2025. Data collection employed a structured, validated

BACKGROUND: Historically, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has faced the greatest public health burden from mpox, including more than 70 000 probable cases from 1 January 2024 to 2 February 2025. However, there has been a relative paucity of investigation focused on mpox community engagement in DRC, including assessments of disease knowledge and risk perception.
METHODS: Given the ongoing Clade I mpox public health emergency of international concern, and the linkage between sustained human-to-human transmission and dense sexual networks, we sought to investigate mpox knowledge and s

BACKGROUND: The 2022 mpox outbreak marked a significant shift in the epidemiology of this zoonotic disease, traditionally confined to Central and West Africa. With over 80 countries reporting cases, this outbreak was characterized by a rapid spread in non-endemic regions, leading to more than 70,000 confirmed cases globally.
OBJECTIVE: To quantify the cumulative incidence of mpox and identify associated factors of mpox among the Mexican population affiliated by the Mexican Social Security Institute during the 2022-2023 outbreak.

BACKGROUND: The Mpox epidemic disproportionately impacted Black and Latino sexual minority men (BLSMM) in the United States, with them having the highest prevalence of disease and the lowest rates of vaccination. Despite this disparity, BLSMM perspectives on the disease, Mpox-related stigma, and inequitable rollout of and distrust in the Mpox vaccine are absent from the literature. The present study aims to describe experiences with Mpox-related sexual behaviors, stigma, and vaccine barriers and facilitators among a sample of BLSMM living in both California and New York.

OBJECTIVES: The data on immune responses of individuals undergoing modified vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic (MVA-BN) vaccination are scarce. We aimed to compare Mpox virus-specific antibody and neutralizing antibody responses among people with and those without HIV receiving MVA-BN vaccines.
METHODS: This prospective study enrolled participants undergoing two-dose MVA-BN vaccination to investigate seroresponses after vaccination. Blood samples were collected before and after each dose of vaccination for determinations of anti-A29 and anti-H3 IgG. Neutralization tests were conducted for sample

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate if race and ethnicity were associated with mpox vaccination at routine care sites (i.e., existing healthcare facilities), compared with temporary sites (i.e., government-operated sites).
METHODS: We analyzed data from New York City's (NYC's) Immunization Information System during August 8-December 14, 2022, the period when routine and temporary mpox vaccination sites were operational. We used generalized estimating equations to assess whether race and ethnicity were associated with vaccination facility type, adjusting for demographics and accounting for doses received.

Early in the Mpox outbreak, individuals presenting for Mpox testing often did not receive comprehensive sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening upon presentation. This study aims to assess the impact of targeted outreach on linkage to STI and HIV screening and HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) counseling for individuals presenting for Mpox testing. Individuals who had tested for Mpox were contacted via an existing STI outreach team in Dallas, Texas, to engage in STI/HIV screening and other preventive services between June 2022 and March 2023. On retrospective chart review, 414 individ

Linking identified MPOX cases to care is essential for MPOX control. This study aims to investigate the intentions of healthcare seeking and self-isolation for MPOX among men who have sex with men (MSM) in China. A cross-sectional online survey was conducted in early August 2023 in China. Respondents were recruited by community-based organizations (CBOs), collecting information on demographics, health status, behavioural and psychological characteristics. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed to examine the predictors of intentions to seek healthcare and self-

BACKGROUND: Disparities in vaccine coverage among groups in the USA is common, possibly due to higher vaccine hesitancy in certain populations, difficulty accessing vaccines, and underlying social vulnerability.
METHODS: The aim of this study was to investigate the association between mpox vaccine administration, social determinants of health, and social vulnerability index (SVI) in Durham County, North Carolina, USA. Random forest regression (RFE) and min-max scaling preprocessing were used to predict mpox vaccinations in Durham County at the census tract level. The top eleven most influenti

Infection of non-human primates (NHPs) such as rhesus and cynomolgus macaques with monkeypox virus (MPXV) or cowpox virus (CPXV) serve as models to study poxvirus pathogenesis and to evaluate vaccines and anti-orthopox therapeutics. Intravenous inoculation of macaques with high dose of MPXV (>1-2×10(7) PFU) or CPXV (>10(2) PFU) results in 80% to 100% mortality and 66 to 100% mortality respectively. Here we report that NHPs with positive detection of poxvirus antigens in immune cells by flow cytometric staining, especially in monocytes and granulocytes succumbed to virus infection and that earl

INTRODUCTION: Mpox disproportionately affects people with HIV (PWH), yet little is known about mpox vaccine awareness and uptake in low- and middle-income countries. We evaluated mpox-related knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP) among PWH in the Dominican Republic to identify determinants of vaccine awareness and uptake.
METHODS: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey of 98 PWH recruited through HIV clinics, community-based organizations and social networks (January-May 2025). The questionnaire assessed sociodemographic characteristics, mpox-related KAP, structural barriers and vacc

The global mpox outbreak and the current surge in Africa underscore the need for innovative epidemic preparedness/response strategies. We describe a comprehensive One Health capacity-building program for mpox response/control for healthcare workers (HCWs) and veterinarians in West Africa. The study design entailed prospective pre- and post-intervention assessments during a train-the-trainer program. Between March and October 2022, four mpox workshops were conducted for HCWs and veterinarians in Nigeria and Guinea. Additionally, two step-down trainings were conducted in Nigeria. Training module
