Safety and Efficacy of Staged, Bilateral Focused Ultrasound Thalamotomy in Essential Tremor: An Open-Label Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Unilateral magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound ablation of ventralis intermedius nucleus of the thalamus for essential tremor reduces tremor on 1 side, but untreated contralateral or midline symptoms remain limiting for some patients. Historically, bilateral lesioning produced unacceptable risks and was supplanted by deep brain stimulation; increasing acceptance of unilateral focused ultrasound lesioning has led to interest in a bilateral option. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of staged, bilateral focused ultrasound thalamotomy. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTI

Pilot Study Employing a Machine Learning Approach as a Potential Method for Predicting Parkinson's Disease Using Voice as a Digital Biomarker and the SHAP Approach for Feature Engineering.

Introduction: Voice-based digital biomarkers have emerged as a promising approach for distinguishing individuals with neurodegenerative disorders, particularly Parkinson's disease (PD), from healthy subjects (HS). With the increasing availability of smartphone and web-based recording tools, voice data can be collected efficiently in both clinical and remote settings. However, further validation is required before such approaches can be translated into routine clinical practice. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional analysis at the recording level, treating repeated recordings from the sam

Mechanisms of homology-facilitated illegitimate recombination for foreign DNA acquisition in transformable Pseudomonas stutzeri.

Sound for the human voice is produced via flow-induced vocal fold vibration. The vocal folds consist of several layers of tissue, each with differing material properties. Normal voice production relies on healthy tissue and vocal folds, and occurs as a result of complex coupling between aerodynamic, structural dynamic, and acoustic physical phenomena. Voice disorders affect up to 7.5 million annually in the United States alone and often result in significant financial, social, and other quality-of-life difficulties. Understanding the physics of voice production has the potential to significant

[The impact of cleft lip and palate on the parent-child relationships].

Cleft lips and palates (CLPs) are the most common human facial malformations. Depending on the ethnic and/or geographical origin of the studied populations, they can affect up to 1/500 newborns. The treatment of these patients is multidisciplinary because these malformations have not only aesthetic consequences but also functional consequences as the phonation, hearing, deglutition, mastication and ventilation are altered. These consequences can also be psychological since the building of the body image, the way others perceive it, is likely to be seriously altered. In Europe there are over 21

Vocal Cord Monitoring by Flexible Fiberoptic Laryngoscopy During Thyroid Radiofrequency Ablation.

Introduction: Thermal injury to recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN) during radiofrequency ablation (RFA) can produce temporary or permanent vocal cord paralysis.1 Hydrodissection with cold 5% glucose of "danger triangle" protects RLN during RFA.2 When RFA is performed under local anesthesia, RLN function is monitored by patients producing vocal sounds.3 Large lesions requiring longer RFAs warrant general sedation where voice cannot be assessed, therefore, an additional technique for RLN protection is advisable. Observation of passive symmetrical vocal cord movements during breathing by laryngeal u
