Epidemiological Description and Detection of Antimicrobial Resistance in Various Aquatic Sites in Marseille, France.

Antibiotic resistance is a worldwide public health concern and has been associated with reports of elevated mortality. According to the One Health concept, antibiotic resistance genes are transferrable to organisms, and organisms are shared among humans, animals, and the environment. Consequently, aquatic environments are a possible reservoir of bacteria harboring antibiotic resistance genes. In our study, we screened water and wastewater samples for antibiotic resistance genes by culturing samples on different types of agar media. Then, we performed real-time PCR to detect the presence of gen

Virotyping and genetic antimicrobial susceptibility testing of porcine ETEC/STEC strains and associated plasmid types.

INTRODUCTION: Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) infections are the most common cause of secretory diarrhea in suckling and post-weaning piglets. For the latter, Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) also cause edema disease. This pathogen leads to significant economic losses. ETEC/STEC strains can be distinguished from general E. coli by the presence of different host colonization factors (e.g., F4 and F18 fimbriae) and various toxins (e.g., LT, Stx2e, STa, STb, EAST-1). Increased resistance against a wide variety of antimicrobial drugs, such as paromomycin, trimethoprim, and tet

TEM,CTX-M,SHV Genes in ESBL-Producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Clinical Samples in a County Clinical Emergency Hospital Romania-Predominance of CTX-M-15.

BACKGROUND: CTX-M betalactamases have shown a rapid spread in the recent years among Enterobacteriaceae and have become the most prevalent Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBLs) in many parts of the world. The introduction and dissemination of antibiotic-resistant genes limits options for treatment, increases mortality and morbidity in patients, and leads to longer hospitalization and expensive costs. We aimed to identify the beta-lactamases circulating encoded by the genes blaCTX-M-15, blaSHV-1 and blaTEM-1 in Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) strains. Fu

Long-term maintenance of multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli carried by vampire bats and shared with livestock in Peru.

Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase-producing Escherichia coli (ESBL-E. coli) have been reported in wildlife worldwide. Whether wildlife is a transient host of ESBL-E. coli or comprises an independently maintained reservoir is unknown. We investigated this question by longitudinally monitoring ESBL-E. coli in common vampire bats and nearby livestock in Peru. Among 388 bats from five vampire bat colonies collected over three years, ESBL-E. coli were detected at a low prevalence (10% in 2015, 4% in 2017 and 2018) compared to a high prevalence (48%) from 134 livestock sampled in 2017. All ESBL-E. co

4-Amino-1,2,4-triazole-3-thione-derived Schiff bases as metallo-β-lactamase inhibitors.

Resistance to β-lactam antibiotics in Gram-negatives producing metallo-β-lactamases (MBLs) represents a major medical threat and there is an extremely urgent need to develop clinically useful inhibitors. We previously reported the original binding mode of 5-substituted-4-amino/H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thione compounds in the catalytic site of an MBL. Moreover, we showed that, although moderately potent, they represented a promising basis for the development of broad-spectrum MBL inhibitors. Here, we synthesized and characterized a large number of 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole-3-thione-derived Schiff bases.
