Non-immersive virtual environments for the treatment of hoarding disorder: a preliminary randomized controlled trial based on a non-clinical sample.

PURPOSE: Hoarding Disorder (HD) is characterized by persistent difficulty discarding possessions, leading to excessive accumulation and functional impairment. Traditional treatments, based on cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), emphasize motivational enhancement, cognitive restructuring, and exposure-based interventions. However, these methods face challenges, including heightened distress during in vivo exposure and avoidance tendencies. Virtual Reality (VR) has emerged as a promising adjunctive tool, offering immersive, controlled environments for gradual exposure. The current preliminary st

Chronic Subdural Hematoma and the Longitudinal Trajectory of Intrinsic Capacity: A Cross-Lagged Panel Network Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is a common neurosurgical condition among older adults. Although surgical success rates are high, many patients experience poor multidimensional functional recovery postoperatively, significantly affecting their quality of life and increasing care burden. The World Health Organization's "intrinsic capacity" framework offers a comprehensive perspective for assessing functional status; however, the dynamic changes in intrinsic capacity after CSDH surgery remain poorly understood. AIM: This study applied longitudinal network analysis to dynamically ex

Case Report: Integrating CBT, hypnosis-based consciousness activation techniques, and yoga-based postural training: a three-pillar approach used for migrant populations.

Modern psychotherapy increasingly integrates multimodal and process-based approaches designed to respond to the complexity of contemporary clinical presentations. This paper introduces a three-pillar psychotherapeutic model combining (1) a revised cognitive behavioral foundation, (2) consciousness activation techniques derived from hypnosis, and (3) yoga-inspired postural and interoceptive training. This integrative framework was specifically adapted for migrant populations, who commonly present with emotional dysregulation, somatic complaints, dissociative symptoms, and limited access to long

Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form Profiles Among Adults With Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: Examining the Effect of Comorbid Psychopathology and ADHD Presentation.

OBJECTIVE: Despite widespread use of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2-Restructured Form (MMPI-2-RF), it is surprisingly understudied among adults with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This is significant as ADHD is a frequent referral for neuropsychological evaluation; however, the core symptom of attention difficulty is a nonspecific sequela of many psychological disorders. This study aimed to characterize MMPI-2-RF profiles among adults with ADHD and examine the effect of comorbid psychopathology. METHOD: A large, demographically diverse sample of 413 consec

From listening to verification: PDMP risk governance and the transformation of pain credibility in healthcare.

The 2022 revision of the CDC Clinical Practice Guideline for Prescribing Opioids acknowledged that recent opioid governance has produced chronic pain patient dismissal and abandonment, yet the institutional mechanisms that generate such outcomes remain insufficiently theorized within health communication scholarship. This paper examines how the textual infrastructure of risk governance restructures the conditions under which chronic pain is believed in clinical settings. Drawing on a text-based institutional ethnography of Georgia's Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) and the NarxCare

A qualitative evaluation of cognitive-behavioural therapy components for social anxiety in autistic adults: Lived experiences from a modified group program.

Cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for social anxiety. However, despite the high prevalence of social anxiety among autistic adults, much less is known about how autistic people experience each CBT component used in treatment. This qualitative study explores autistic adults' perspectives on a modified cognitive-behaviour therapy group programme for social anxiety, focusing on the perceived effectiveness of CBT components and the identification of needed modifications. Twenty-seven participants who completed the intervention took part in semi-structured interviews.

Metaverse as a possible tool for reshaping schema modes in treating personality disorders.

Personality disorders (PD) are usually treated with face-to-face sessions and/or digital mental health services. Among many schools of therapies, schema therapy stands out because rather than simply targeting the symptoms of PD, it cordially targets the cause of PD and heals the early maladaptive schema, thus is exceptionally good at soothing emotional disturbances before enacting cognitive restructuring, resulting in long-term efficacy. However, according to Piaget's genetic epistemology, the unmet needs lie in the fact that the schemata that determine the adaptive behavior can only be formed

Neurobehavioral symptom validity in U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) mild traumatic brain injury evaluations.

INTRODUCTION: The use of the Neurobehavioral Symptom Inventory (NSI) by U.S. Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs (VA) providers for all mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) evaluations led to the development of methods to screen for symptom exaggeration. The present study was designed to explore the clinical utility of three metrics-the Validity-10 scale, the NSI total score, and the mild Brain Injury Atypical Symptoms Scale (mBIAS)-relative to the results of several different criterion measures of symptom validity. METHOD: Participants in this study were 82 U.S. military veterans referr

Effect of maternal rumination and disengagement during childhood on offspring neural response to reward in late adolescence.

Maternal rumination is a cognitive-affective trait that could influence offspring's ability to respond flexibly to positive and negative events, depending on the quality of maternal problem-solving behaviors with which rumination co-occurs. As reward circuitry is sensitive to stressors and related to risk for depression, reward circuitry is an appropriate candidate mechanism for how maternal characteristics influence offspring. We evaluated the independent and combined effect of maternal rumination and disengagement on adolescent neural response to reward win and loss. Participants were 122 bo

[Etiology and pathogenesis of Alzheimer dementia].

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common cause of primary dementia, characterized by a progressive process of pathophysiological restructuring of the brain over decades. The hallmark of Alzheimer's disease is the extracellular accumulation and deposition of insoluble amyloid, to be found in the parenchyma in the form of amyloid plaques and in meningeal and cerebral vessels as a congophile angiopathy. Equally conspicuous is the intraneuronal occurrence of neurofibrillary tangles, consisting mainly of hyperphosphorylated tau-protein. Amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles are characteris

Multi-target regulatory mechanisms and clinical assessment of natural products for insomnia: a review.

BACKGROUND: Insomnia, a prevalent sleep disorder, adversely impacts patients' quality of life and imposes significant burdens on both physical and mental health. While conventional insomnia therapies remain widely utilized, they exhibit persistent safety limitations, including risks of dependence and cognitive impairment. Natural products have garnered increasing scientific interest owing to their favorable safety profiles and demonstrated therapeutic efficacy. This comprehensive review critically examines contemporary advances in understanding the mechanistic actions of natural products again

Yeast β-glucan alleviates alcohol-related brain injury by restoring gut-brain axis homeostasis.

This study investigated the protective effects of yeast β-glucan (YBG) against alcohol-related brain injury (ARBI), with a focus on potential mechanisms mediated by the gut-brain axis. Our findings revealed that YBG supplementation significantly alleviated alcohol-induced anxiety-like behaviors and cognitive deficits in mice. In the brain, YBG mitigated oxidative stress, reduced neuroinflammation, and ameliorated neurotransmitter dysregulation. In the gut, YBG protected the alcohol-damaged intestinal barrier, upregulating the expression of tight junction proteins (Claudin-1, Occludin, and ZO-1

[Intensive outpatient treatment for eating disorders in Mexico, contextualized for Latin America].

Introduction: in Latin America, access to specialized treatment for eating disorders (EDs) remains limited. Despite advances in detection and diagnosis, there are still major gaps in the availability of intensive and appropriate services, particularly outside large urban centers. Most existing treatment models were developed in high-income countries and do not always reflect the sociocultural, economic, and structural realities of the region. Objective: this report aims to document the implementation and evaluation of a scalable intermediate care model for EDs, with implications for adoption i

Examining Mediating Factors in the Relationship Between Sleep Disturbance and Symptoms in Adults with Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Limited studies have explored the effects of individual and environmental factors on sleep disturbance in individuals with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), which is vital for informing future sleep interventions. Thus, the purpose of this study was to explore the possible mediated effects of potential precipitating and/or perpetuating factors on the relationship between sleep disturbance and symptoms in adults with IBD. This is a correlational study of adults with IBD recruited from ResearchMatch. Survey questions asked about demographics, clinical characteristics, sleep hygiene, sleep belief

Predictors and outcomes of engagement in an online depression prevention program for final year secondary school students.

Although school-based delivery of online interventions can effectively prevent depression and other common mental disorders, little is known about the characteristics of students who engage with these programs. This study aimed to identify predictors of two indicators of adolescent engagement (program usage and skill enactment) with a school-based online depression prevention program. The study also explored the association between skill enactment and mental health outcomes. Participants were 204 final-year secondary school students (M = 16.7 years, SD = 0.51 years; 111 females) from the inter

Provision of Psychological Support to a 31-Year-Old Man with SARS-CoV2-Induced Pneumonia during and after Hospitalization: A Clinical Case Report.

A 31-year-old man hospitalized during the first wave of the pandemic in 2020 suffering from severe psychological distress, requested psychological assistance as his condition progressively worsened, eventually requiring intubation. After being referred to the clinical psychology service by a ward physician, the patient was assisted remotely for two months for a total of 22 sessions during hospitalization and after discharge. A psychometric evaluation was carried out when the patient was close to discharge and longitudinally, for a total of four times, for depression (Patient Health Questionnai

Understanding the early support needs of survivors of traumatic events: The example of severe injury survivors.

OBJECTIVE: In the aftermath of a potentially traumatic event, people may experience a range of mental health outcomes, including subclinical symptoms and distress. There is growing evidence that trauma survivors with subclinical symptoms are at increased risk of developing later psychiatric disorders, and this is especially the case with severe injury survivors. There is a need to develop evidence-based, early, brief interventions for those who are at risk of developing trauma-related psychopathology. To date, interventions for this at-risk group have largely been derived from expert consensus

Beyond Stigma-Integrating Neurobiology, Genetics, and Awareness Integration Theory in Addiction Recovery.

Addiction continues to be heavily stigmatized due to lingering misconceptions that frame substance use as a moral failing rather than a treatable neurobiological disorder. This stigma, when internalized, intensifies shame and obstructs recovery. Awareness Integration Theory, a multidisciplinary therapeutic model, addresses these internalized beliefs by identifying and integrating fragmented aspects of the self across thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and promotes self-awareness, emotional regulation, and cognitive restructuring, critical components in reducing shame and fostering resilience.
