Dogs demonstrate behavioural changes and cognitive decline during aging. Compared to laboratory dogs, little is known about aging in pet dogs exposed to different environments and nutrition. In this study, we examined the effects of age, an enriched diet and lifelong training on different behavioural and cognitive measures in 119 pet dogs (>6yrs). Dogs were maintained on either an enriched diet or a control diet for one year. Lifelong training was calculated using a questionnaire where owners filled in their dog's training experiences to date. Before commencing the diet and after one year of d

Children with genetic neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) such as Down syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, and Fragile X syndrome may show a range of cognitive impairments, including impairments in executive functions (EF). EF are related to general intelligence, academic achievement, and literacy and mathematical skills. EF deficits are linked to a variety of clinically and socially important behaviors. Therefore, methods for improving EF in children with NDDs could be beneficial. One method for improving EF is through cognitive training. Research on commercial brain training programmes and vide

BACKGROUND: Lightning-related injuries most often involve impairment of the functions of the central and peripheral nervous systems, usually including cognitive dysfunctions. We evaluated the cognitive deficit of a patient who had survived a lightning strike and measured the improvement after her cognitive training. This therapeutic method appears to be a powerful tool in the neurorehabilitation treatment.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this case study was to prove the beneficial effects of cognitive training as part of the neurorehabilitation after a lightning strike.
METHODS: Six neuropsychological

Individuals with schizophrenia exhibit consistent deficits in social cognition such as emotion perception, attributional style, and theory of mind, which may be targets of psychosocial treatments. Previous intervention studies have typically focused on only one aspect of social cognition and have not assessed generalization of treatment to improvements in social functioning. This paper describes preliminary data from a new group-based treatment, Social Cognition and Interaction Training (SCIT), aimed at improving social cognition in schizophrenia. Eighteen inpatients with schizophrenia spectru

Background/Objectives: Amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) represents a transitional stage between normal aging and dementia, constituting a critical intervention window for Alzheimer's disease (AD). As a non-invasive intervention, neurofeedback training (NFT) has demonstrated potential in ameliorating cognitive deficits and clinical symptoms in aMCI patients; however, its mechanistic effects on functional brain connectivity remain inadequately elucidated. Methods: This study employed low- and high-order functional analytical approaches to comprehensively investigate the effects of NFT o

BACKGROUND: Amid the accelerating aging trend, addressing mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is critical for dementia prevention. Current evidence suggests that standalone interventions have limited efficacy, whereas combined physical‑cognitive training may yield greater benefits. However, the neurophysiological mechanisms of sequential combinations, particularly their effects on regional brain activation and functional connectivity, remain unclear. Functional near‑infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) offers a non‑invasive tool to measure cortical oxygenation and address this gap.
METHODS: This 12‑week

BACKGROUND: Post-stroke cognitive impairment (PSCI) is prevalent following stroke. Both hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) and cognitive training have demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of PSCI; however, it remains unclear whether combining HBOT with cognitive training has a synergistic effect on global cognition and functional independence in PSCI. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to investigate the effects of HBOT combined with computerized cognitive training (CCT) on global cognition and functional independence in patients with PSCI, and to explore associated neural correlates. METHODS: In this single

BACKGROUND: Cognitive impairment is a common non-motor symptom in Multiple Sclerosis (MS), negatively affecting autonomy and Quality of Life (QoL). Innovative rehabilitation strategies, such as semi-immersive virtual reality (VR) and computerized cognitive training (CCT), may offer advantages over traditional cognitive rehabilitation (TCR), particularly in terms of engagement, specificity, adaptability, and ecological validity. This study aimed to compare the efficacy of semi-immersive VR, CCT using the ERICA platform, and TCR on cognitive outcomes and depressive/anxiety symptoms in individual

BACKGROUND: Despite the effectiveness of specialized therapies, people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) continue to face substantial psychosocial challenges, which may be partially attributed to neuropsychological deficits arising from imbalances in the corticolimbic system. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) targeting the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) could enhance impulse control, emotional regulation, and cognitive functions; thus, we sought to explore the effectiveness of tDCS combined with online cognitive training on cognitive functions, BPD symptoms, and p
