A case of neurosyphilis is described. The presenting symptoms were reduced visual acuity and impaired colour vision. The examination revealed bilateral optic atrophy and acquired red-green colour defect. A syphilitic aetiology was based on positive serological tests in blood and CSF, pleocytosis and increased total protein in the CSF. The abrupt decline in visual acuity was arrested by treatment with penicillin and systemic steroids, but normalization of vision was not obtained. All VER-records, of P2 latencies and morphologies were surprisingly normal, but the amplitudes were reduced.

The endocrinologic status of three patients with the Kallmann syndrome and anosmia were studied. Other than hypogondotropic hypogonadism, no abnormalities were found. Although the testosterone response to human chorionic gonadotropin was normal in all three patients, none of them responded to the antiestrogen, clomiphene. These patients are compared to others from the literature and it is concluded that the Kallmann syndrome is a heterogeneous category, comprising a number of clinically and genetically distinct disorders.

AIMS: To provide normative data for chromatic discrimination on the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 hue test particularly for observers under 23 years of age.
METHODS: Normal observers were screened for congenital colour vision deficiencies using the Ishihara test leaving 382 observers.

Achromatopsia (rod monochromacy) is a congenital color-vision defect of autosomal recessive inheritance due to severely abnormal or totally absent cone function. The disease is characterized by markedly reduced visual acuity, nystagmus, and, often, ametropia. The minimum requirements for a reliable study of (acquired) defects of colour vision have been formulated by Verriest. Taking these minimum requirements as a guide, about 200 patients were selected. For the differential diagnosis of disorders of the retina and the optic nerve the determination of the neutral zone and examination with the anomaloscope are important. This is true for both red-green and blue-yellow defects.

Color perception was tested using the Farnsworth-Munsell 100-Hue Test in a sample of persons with Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS), and compared to norms from three age cohorts in the early second, fourth and sixth decades. We report a rare case of neurosarcoidosis presenting as isolated optic neuritis in a 43-year-old man with a history of obstructive sleep apnea and daily marijuana use. The patient experienced progressive, painless unilateral vision loss over six weeks, highlighting an atypical initial manifestation of this condition.
