We have examined the keratin proteins in normal human oral mucosa from 6 different regions including hard palate, buccal mucosa, tongue, gingiva and floor of the mouth. Urea-dithiothreitol extracts of EDTA separated epithelia were analysed by SDS-PAGE and immunoblotting. The effects of ascorbic acid deficiency on growth and calcification of bone were studied in whole 18-day fetal rat radii and ulnae cultured in a chemically defined medium. Ascorbic acid deficiency decreased the formation of labeled hydroxyporline from labeled proline in both bone shafts and cartilage ends while incorporation of tryptophan was maintained. Protein kinase C (PKC) regulates a variety of intracellular and extracellular signals across the neuronal membrane. PKC requires calcium and phospholipid, particularly phosphatidylserine (PS) for its activation. A mercuric ion-reducing flavoprotein was purified from Yersinia enterocolitica 138A14 using dye matrix affinity chromatography. The purified enzyme had a characteristic absorption spectrum similar to those of flavin compounds, and FAD was detected as a part of the purified enzyme by thin-layer chromatography.
