OBJECTIVE: Personality changes are related to successfully performing adult occupational roles which require teamwork, duty, and managing stress. However, it is unclear how personality development relates to specific job characteristics that vary across occupations.
METHOD: We investigated whether 151 objective job characteristics, derived from the Occupational Information Network (O*NET), were associated with personality levels and changes in a 12-year longitudinal sample followed over the school to work transition. Using cross-validated regularized modeling, we combined two Icelandic longit

Forty-five women with stress incontinence (mean age 50 years) scheduled for surgical treatment randomized either to retropubic urethrocystopexy or to pubococcygeal repair were prospectively studied. Fifty healthy women were used as a reference group. No difference emerged concerning the outcome for these two surgical techniques in terms of success rate. Consequently, the subjects were treated as one group. The aim of the study was to test for predictive factors of the outcome of surgical treatment. Age of the patient, duration of stress incontinence, parity, personality, psychological and soci

CONTEXT: Indian models of personality are seldom explored in relation to alcohol dependence. Triguna is an Indian model of personality originating from the Sankhya philosophy, whereby three gunas, Sattva, Rajas and Tamas describe personality features. Additionally, the trait of Non attachment which is a concept discussed extensively in Bhagavad Gita is also studied along with Triguna.
AIMS: The current study discusses these concepts and attempts to explore their relationship with personality and subjective well-being, among men with and without alcohol dependence.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: A cro

BACKGROUND: Effective communication is critical in the management of temporomandibular disorders (TMDs). However, the influence of dentists' personality traits on communication and subsequent patient outcomes remains poorly understood.
PURPOSE: The primary objective was to determine which dentist personality traits are associated with more effective patient-centered communication. Secondary objectives were to examine whether these traits are linked to patient satisfaction, adherence to splint therapy, and improvements in psychological well-being.

Lifestyle habits, cognitive reserve, and affective reserve (secure attachment, extraversion, psychological resilience) predict resilience in the oldest-old, though the underlying biological mechanisms remain unclear. This study explored relationships between these protective factors, 120 + NULISA CNS blood biomarkers, and multidimensional health outcomes (global cognition, mental health, walking speed) in 401 dementia-free participants (age 83-87) from the InveCe.Ab study. Using sparse partial least squares (sPLS) regression, eight biomarkers were stably associated with the protective factors:

OBJECTIVES: Anxiety and other psychological dispositions are thought to be associated with blood pressure. This study tests whether personality traits have long-term associations with masked and white-coat effects.
METHODS: A community-based sample of 2838 adults from Sardinia (Italy) completed the Revised NEO Personality Inventory, and 7 years later, blood pressure was assessed in the clinic and with ambulatory monitoring. Logistic regressions were used to test whether anxiety, neuroticism, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, and conscientiousness predicted the white-coat and masked hyper

Background: Childhood maltreatment is associated with behavioural dysregulation, including heightened impulsivity, but the psychological and neurobiological pathways linking early adversity to impaired self-regulation remain unclear. Methods: This study tested theory-informed statistical mediation models to examine whether specific childhood maltreatment subtypes were associated with impulsivity through region-specific cortical thickness and personality traits. Sixty-one healthy adults completed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, NEO Five-Factor Inventory, and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale, and

OBJECTIVE: Patients with panic disorder (PD) are approximately four times more likely to experience suicidal thoughts and attempts compared to healthy controls (HCs). Despite the elevated risk compared to HCs, the relationship between cortical thickness (CT) in PD and suicidality remains underexplored.
METHODS: We recruited 161 right-handed participants, including 82 PD patients and 79 HCs, and assessed them using a comprehensive battery of psychological scales, including the Scale for Suicidal Ideation (SSI), Early Trauma Inventory Self Report-Short Form, Neuroticism-Extraversion-Openness Pe

OBJECTIVE: This study examined whether phenotypic correlations between psychopathological dimensions and personality traits of different hierarchical levels originate from common genetic and environmental sources of variance.
METHOD: Participants were 386 monozygotic and 204 dizygotic twins. The Psychiatric Diagnostic Screening Questionnaire (PDSQ) was applied along with the Revised NEO Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R). The results of the CFA confirmed the hypothesis of the internalizing and externalizing dimensions underlying PDSQ scales.
RESULTS: The results indicated a significantly great

General personality dimensions are associated with clinical severity and treatment response in individuals with depression and many anxiety disorders, but little is known about these relationships in individuals with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Individuals in the current study included 705 adults with OCD who had participated in family and genetic studies of the disorder. Participants self-completed the Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness Personality Inventory or Neuroticism, Extraversion, Openness Five-Factor Inventory-3. This study examines potential for suicide risk among young adults burned as children and examines characteristics associated with potential risk. Eighty-five young adults were administered the Suicide Probability Scale, which contains four clinical subscales: suicide ideation, hopelessness, negative self-evaluation, and hostility; the 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire; and the Family Environment Scale. Burn survivors reported more feelings of hopelessness in comparison to the reference group. High anxiety was positively associated with hopelessness, suicide ideation, hostility and negative s

Previous research has shown that both depression and social anxiety--2 facets of internalizing psychopathology--are characterized by low levels of extraversion/positive emotionality (E/PE). However, little is known about the relations of the facets of E/PE with the symptoms of depression and social anxiety. This study utilized multiple measures of each facet of E/PE, as well as depression and social anxiety symptoms. Self-report data were collected from large samples of college students and psychiatric outpatients. Separate factor analyses in each sample revealed a 4-factor structure of E/PE c

Little is known about the longitudinal course of dental anxiety in relation to age, mental health and personality factors. In 1968 69 a representative sample of 778 women aged 38 to 54 yr took part in a psychiatric examination. Three hundred and ten were followed up in 1992-93. A phobia questionnaire, including assessment of dental fear, and the Eysenck Personality Inventory were distributed to the participants at both occasions. High dental fear was reported by 16.8% of the women at baseline and was associated with a higher number of other phobias, a higher level of neuroticism, more psychiat

The Five-Factor Narcissism Inventory (FFNI) is a self-report measure of the traits linked to grandiose and vulnerable narcissism, as well as narcissistic personality disorder (NPD), from a five-factor model perspective (FFM). In the current studies, the factor structure of the FFNI was explored and the results supported the extraction of three factors: Antagonism (e.g., Arrogance), Neuroticism (e.g., Need for Admiration), and Agentic Extraversion (e.g., Authoritativeness). In Study 2, the FFNI factors manifested convergent validity with their corresponding Big Five domains and diverging relati

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate personality profiles of Long Life Family Study participants relative to population norms and offspring of centenarians from the New England Centenarian Study. METHOD Personality domains of agreeableness, conscientiousness, extraversion, neuroticism, and openness were assessed with the NEO Five-Factor Inventory in 4,937 participants from the Long Life Family Study (mean age 70 years). A linear mixed model of age and gender was implemented adjusting for other covariates.
RESULTS: A significant age trend was found in all five personality domains. On average, the offspring

Residence with parents and unemployment during studies were chosen as the two behavioural indicators of dependency among 601 undergraduate students. Students completed a demographic questionnaire, Costa and McCrae's (1992) NEO-FFI and Beck, Davis, and Freeman's (1990) Typical Beliefs of DPD. Unemployed students, living with their parents, were found to be significantly more dependent, neurotic and agreeable and less extraverted, conscientious and open than employed students who did not reside with their parents. Residing with parents during one's studies was the strongest predictor of dependen
